  1. My best advice would be go to the store and handle some rods of all different powes. Ultra-light to heavy; if you can. Pick one that feels good and fish with it. Once you find a happy medium you can go up and down from there.
  2. I'd try what you have. Don't like it? Look at something else and use the rest of that spool as leader material if need be. I like 12lb big game and my next spool will be some 12lb suffix mono.
  3. Man that's a crazy story. I'm glad your ok and thanks for telling it. Makes me realize money spent on this and that, is not as important as spending money on a pfd that I would wear 24/7 on the water.
  4. Thanks slonezp. That was definitely a lesson learned and I got another iPhone
  5. Id say give her the medium and buy yourself a medium light. Your question was asking about rods at different ends of the spectrum. You will get answers running the whole range. Giving us some info on what you already fish and what the body of water is like might yield more qualified answers.
  6. It's kinda funny and kind of not but my buddy was checking someone out jogging and rear ended someone. He was promptly let go from that driving job.
  7. I just posted in the boating section about a lesson I learned. Here's another one i learned. Don't check out the pretty ladies to long. I got some takeout the other night. As I was leaving and walking to my car I see three attractive ladies walking down the street. I'm checking them out and In the process trip over my own two feet and fall flat on the ground right in front of them. They start to yell omg are you alright. Yea I say just a little embarrassed. They ask if I'm sure. Oh yea I say do it all the time as I walk briskly to my truck. Gashed my knuckle pretty good and my pride was hurt but the bbq was ok. Be careful out there fellas lol.
  8. This has been my first year boating. Needless to say I've learned a lot. From launching and loading to just manuerving oh yea and before I thought I was good at fishing. Turns out I gotta a lot to learn. My latest task I've been trying master is loading and unloading the boat without getting in the water. I'm pretty good at driving the boat up on the trailer; thanks to some guides I made. Unloading has been another issue. With someone I've done good. The other day bymyself did not go so well. I backed the boat down the launch and when it hit the water unhooked the wench. I had watched some videos of people putting the boat in reverse and backing it off the trailer. I attempted to do the same. So I was successfully able to reverse the boat off the trailer. As soon as I was off the motor died. At this point I tried to start it again. It's a pull start so I pulled and the rope wouldn't budge. This freaked me out. Tried again wouldn't budge. At this point I'm floating towards some rocks and a docked boat. I freaked out and jumped in. Oh yea my phone was in my pocket that's one iPhone down. I was in about 3 feet of water. Pushed the boat back to the dock and tied it up. Looked down and duh boat won't start in reverse. Put it back in neutral and started right up. Long story short, I learned to try and keep a level head and not freak out at the first problem.
  9. Nice Fish! The big one and the little one.
  10. I'm glad to hear your wife is doing well. Cancer is a SOB. Thank you for posting and continued good health to you both.
  11. Going to college doesn't necessarily mean a better income especially in today's economic landscape. i certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from going but make sure your degree will lead to some gainful employment and career opportunities. I.e. Don't go and be a history major.
  12. As a former boat less fisherman; this is something I dreamed about while beating the bank. Never thought of hanging at a boat ramp. One time I was fishing a dock around the local college. A guy about my age was off to the side with a little dog putting a canoe in. He asked me if I wanted to join. I asked if he was sure and we paddled around for an hour shooting the breeze while he waited for his gf to finish class. I thought it was a very nice geusture. As for myself I think I would be a little leary unless I had banked fish with them and got to know someone. I mean all it takes is someone to push you off the boat and away they go.
  13. Yes. That was standard operating procedure for me and my buddy out of his small boat with no fish finder. we liked to troll white grubs on a jig head and rapala jerk baits/floaters
  14. If someone finds my gunfish; 20 feet up in a tree. please pm me lol.
  15. Squirming, Color is important only when it's important. You should post up some pics of fish you have caught with various color lures and let us know your findings.
  16. I would approach it as if I was fishing from the bank. Find a fishy spot. Make multiple casts from different angles with the same lure. You have 3 Combos tie on 3 lures on that can cover various depths. After a few casts change combos. Still nothing? Change a lure or two repeat. Still nothing? Go to another fishy spot. That's how I fish 99% of the time 3 combos on the bank 4 in the boat. I fish alone almost once a day. Works for me.
  17. St.croix 7mlf Stradic fj 2500 Fluke Gunfish 95 Tube Wack senko Rapala husky jerk Mohawk River lock 7-8 That's all I ever fish anyways. Man I'm boring.
  18. Snook is that your philosophy on all aspects of life?i could eat plain chicken white rice and green beans everyday and live just fine but sometimes I want a steak and lobster.
  19. got this one on a wacky rig.
  20. I broke out the moths balls, some bunjee cords and a tarp. Seemed to do a nice job last year. The boat was also backed into a car port.
  21. Miller lite hat. I won't take out my fish grips or pliers until I catch a fish. Usually the first fish I catch is a toothy one or a 10. Inch smallmouth on trebles. This makes it I interesting trying to keep the fish on and reaching in my bag lol.
  22. Custom at.croix sc5 66mlf with recoil guides and a 2000hgs shimano vanquish. I'm pinching pennies for it
  23. There is a video on youtube where a guy replaced all the bearings in a stella with ceramics and man that thing looked smooth but i digress. A nice upgrade for the stradic is replacing the bushings in the knob with bearings
  24. I agree with johns post about the horsing in. One would think playing the fish would lead to more opportunities to break the line but this generally has not been my experience. If you look closely you can see the line and maybe even the fluke in the fish's mouth. I cut the line to make handling and unhooking the fish easier. 12lb yo-zuri.
  25. I had a 6'6 shimano clarus lifght action rod and it was excellent. Threadless cork handle and a really nice tip that transitioned into a surprising back bone. I caught a lot of nice fish on that rod; now I'm sad I sold it lol. They make a 6'0 I found via a google search.
