  1. I depleted my hook supply this past season. I purchased some 25 packs of 3/0 ewg, 1/0 wide gap finesse, 1/0 offset worm hook, 1 drop shot hooks. 330 yards of yellow 10lb pp. a bone spook, white cavitron, some keitech salty sticks and Yamamoto white d shads. Wacky O rings, spike it and suspend strips. I think I'm good to go at this point. Just need to save up over the winter for a battery and jackplate and off I go!
  2. I hate to admit this but I have never caught a fish on a jig. Maybe I didn't use them at the right place or time. It's obvious they work but all I've got was snagged or a bunch of salad back. I've seen my buddy and many others nail them on a jig but not me. Tube jigs on the other hand I stay putting fish in the boat.
  3. Tip tops have two numbers. Ring inner diameter measured in millimeters and tube inner diameter (the part that goes on the rod tip) In 64's of an inch. You can measure with calipers or call the rod manufacturer and see what they say. Hope this helps.
  4. Reels: shimano Rods: st croix/loomis just picked up some rainshadow that seem pretty good. Suffix and powerpro Gama and eagle claw hooks - all sorts of baits.
  5. Football, tube and ball head.
  6. Glad she's getting better. Prayers sent.
  7. Maybe I missed it in this very informative thread. Has a study or an observation been done on personal space and bass? It doesn't seem that bass are pack animals like wolfs or lions. Where there is a hierarchy and dependence on survival. If a food source is scarce would it not make more sense for a bass to purse its own best interest (survival) and when a food source is plentiful congregate to that opportunity? Catt mentioned rivers and creeks are a different thing all together and I'm basing my question off my experiences fishing river discharges and watching the sonar on the river and seeing long stretches devoid of any fish activity.
  8. I'm all for being able to defend ones self and there are many ways to do it. If the youngster likes to tussle take a look at wrestling. It's a great sport that teaches discipline, determination and could lead to a college scholarship. I wrestled for quite a few years and the major thing you have to watch out for is a couch encouraging a kid to cut major weight.
  9. 2 RX7 blanks 781 and 722 on the way and a stradic 1000. Must resist half off sc3 blanks.
  10. Very good info on that site. A great starting point; make sure you test cast before you wrap those guides up!
  11. Talk about making the best out of a bad situation.
  12. I wonder as far as "fan boys" go how many only fish Shakespeare ? Edit: I like my reels metal and my rods made by me.
  13. For me it was the summer of the gunfish. I didn't really want to plunk down the money for one but was able to find a few used for pretty cheap. Man are they the bomb. Got some of my most violent strike off them. Even if they miss the fish seem to come back and get it. Great bait.
  14. Yea those are my fishing buddies. More room in the boat for my rods.
  15. I know this guy is the master but I'm sure you would have no problem using a spinning rod where you fish. Ml or medium
  16. I'm 50/50. It's a compromise. The brand I'm most familiar with right now (st.croix) but it might be the same with other brands. As you step up or down in powers regardless of brands you are going to gain or lose versatility and you have to live with that and decide where in your fishing that fits in. Do you want a rod that is going to be better at throwing a 5 inch senko or a rod that is going to be better at throwing a 3 inch twitch tail minnow and a 1/8oz drop shot weight? A medium light and a medium spinning rod can do both but one will be better than the other. If it was me I'd chose the spinning rod that was on the opposite end of the spectrum from my casting rods.
  17. This is a great story and these guys are now hooked. http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/orphans-win-250k-fishing-tournament/
  18. A spot I fish at people are always around looking for drift wood on the bank. There have been a few times they have come close to stepping on a rod or two. Makes me glad I have a boat. Glad your combo got away unharmed.
  19. Fish what you brought. That's my philosophy.
  20. Does the reel work without it?
  21. I am very intrigued by the carbon as well. There is a few very good/detailed videos on YouTube but I haven't taken the time to view them. At this point I'm a cork fan and generally prefer natural cork over synthetic. Split or full doesn't matter much to me.
  22. I'm 29. I'm from New York but love me some Tennessee grips and Old Charlie Brewer videos.
