  1. My dog Toga an American Bulldog is an amazing animal. He has a neighborhood arch nemesis though a Giant German Sherpard. When ever this woman walks him in front of the fence it's like world war 3 both tog and the gsd go ballistic. Toga has never barked let alone growled on the leash but one time as we were arriving home from a walk the nemesis was walking infront if our house and he was ready for battle. You would think after 4 years of this the lady would cross the freakin street! Does anyone else have a pet with a nemesis? Would enjoy hearing some stories.
  2. Well I could be an a** and say look down on this page of threads and the next page as there are 2-3 threads some with multiple pages discussing the subject matter. For $100 I'd be looking at a pfluger supreme or diawa lexa. If you really want to treat yourself use what you have save up another $40 and get a shimano stradic fj 1000 or 2500 off that auction site.
  3. It was "supposed" to rain all day today. If I listened to the weather man I wouldn't have been out fishing
  4. Is the line overlapping at the top of the spool? Try adding a rubber washer which hopefully came with the reel to the spool shaft. What angle are you holding the rod at? I find sometimes if I hold the rod at a 12 o'clock I get tangles but normally around the tip and I'm burning the lure back. It sounds like your setup is on point so I'm drawing at straws.
  5. I have a symetre fl and fj. The fl is certainly a nice reel however it doesn't really hold a candle to the fj. Yes even though it has x-ship. Take my recommendation for what it's worth which is basically nothing. Look at a pflugeur or even some diawas in that price range.
  6. Never tried it but I don't see why not. Hey you could be onto something!
  7. Anyone ever had heady topper? That's a great beer. I also like good time IPA and we have alittle brewery/restaurant down the street called the Van Dyke that usually have 8-10 of their homebrews on tap everything from lagers,IPAs and browns all of which are excellent.
  8. People always recommend senkos to beginners and yes while it is an easy way to catch fish. 1. It's boring as all heck (great way to introduce someone to fishing lol) 2. Everytime I take someone inexperience I have to use the gut hook removal trick. Shoot I still have to do it sometime myself. Op I'm not saying don't try senkos but there are other options such as a white or green pumpkin fluke or a white spinnerbait. IMO these baits are much more "fun" to fish and generally induce much more violent strikes which will give you a good handle on what a bite feels like. Whatever you choose get out there and have some fun!!
  9. Fluke for life!
  10. I'll agree with what some of the other guys said. I've been doing pretty good catching the smallmouth shallow. On the river we are almost in a period of transition where the smallmouth are patrolling weed beds and weeds lines feeding on fingerlings. Just tonight I saw a smallmouth chasing them into a foot of water. Then proceded to catch 2 on a gunfish in about 2ft. My first time using that lure and it is sweet.
  11. I got my start in smallmouth river fishing trolling grubs, jerkbaits and beetle spins. It's definetly is effective especially under tough conditions. For anyone that's reading this and doesn't know; the world record smallmouth was caught trolling.
  12. Purchased my first boat this year at 28. 1648 tracker with a 9.9 it putts me up the river nice. I have so far been enjoying the learning experience. The hardest part for me has been coming back to the dock at the right speed/angle but I'm getting better every time!
  13. It would help if you tell us what rod you plan on using. Also one mans micros can be another's regular guides. I use the alberto with 40lb braid and 12lb mono on a powell endurance which in my opinion has pretty small running guides without a problem. I can hear/feel the knot tick the guides but have not noticed a decrease in casting distance. So to answer your question yes.
  14. There is some good info in the link below. I hope you haven't spent the spring and half the summer without a reel for your rod it would be a shame to miss out on all the good fishing time. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/135478-what-size-reel-should-go-on-my-st-croix-premiere/?fromsearch=1
  15. Buy a 2500 shimano or 6930 Pfluguer and enjoy your purchase by catching fish.
  16. Haven't owned a ton of rods but quickly realized what I do like and that's a rod with a soft tip that bends a good 3rd into the blank. For me it's a 7'0 mlf stcroix.
  17. Honestly, I don't know.
  18. Very nice Bob. Looks like it will be a lot of fun for your intended purpose.
  19. A warranty is only as good as the name on the box. I can get a good look at T-bone steak by sticking my head up a bulls butt but I'd rather take the butchers word for it. Edit: Credit it to Chris Farley (Tommy Boy)
  20. Way to go Z. Hopefully the first if many more!
  21. Zoom fluke. Heck that's my go to lure in any body of water. It's all about the confidence man!
  22. I dunno if I have a favorite but my go to baits are tubes, flukes, dropshot and topwater baits. Being on shore and not having a fish finder on my boat yet, I look for rocky areas and current breaks.
  23. I've spent sometime around luxury/sports cars and maybe I'm lucky but I'm always suprised at the owners willingness to let me drive Maybe they have good car insurance. I'm not a big Vette fan except for 63-67 but that is one sweet looking vette.
  24. One lighting bolt and I'm out.
