Great Backpack For Bank Fishing?
First you are not that unfortunate. You have a buddy who can take you on time to time. I did't and many fisherman don't. Second, there's not such thing as perfect back pack. (Ask me how I know it. ) I was looking for certain elements like you are right now. I fish both from a boat and from banks. I wanted to be able to transfer the boxes that I bring on the boat to a back pack. I wanted to carry at least two possibly three rods without constantly put them on the ground and picking them up. I want to keep moving. I realized 1) my needs are bigger than the most bank fisherman 2) fishing back pack are not made big enough for that, and 3) even if I find bigger one, something is not right about them. What I did was found one of military type back pack with lots of straps big enough, and attached rod holders made out of one foot PVC pipes from those straps. I can add more stuff to it if I want to. It worked, but I realized that my back pack was too heavy. Eventually, I created boxes with reduced baits for bank fishing and bank fishing became more enjoyable.

Thumb The Shoulder Of The Spool Or The Line
Shoulder of the spool. I cast with the reel angled to my side probably 30 to 45 degree angled, handle facing up. My thumb controls the non-handle side of the shoulder. I have better control this way. However to be acculate, my thumb is probably touching the line as well as spool. My wrist moves freely this way too. I would like to add question to those who thumb the line...when you cast, is your reel right on top or angled to the side?

Fenwick Elite Sm Rod Question
Is it something with these seats that is not as strong as other seats? I tighten mine down as much as I can... Is this have to do with Chronarch 101A's reel foot being short or something?

Rod Length (Please Help)
I do not get this logic. What am I missing here. Longer rod's tip moves faster, as long as the rod moves at the same speed. This has nothing to do with the angler's height. Op, I take back my comment that 6'10" and 7' are basically same, because I though you were just asking general question vs particular rods you had in your mind. I agree with everybody else to go with lure rating.

My First Boat
Yeah, sorry, 'expected' is wrong word. So it sounds like things you can do about leaks. I better read up a little. Thanks!

My First Boat
Nice, Drewski73! I was planning on buying used aluminum bass boat this summer. However, I started thinking about getting jon boat instead due to less $$$. This is riveted boat, correct? Are they expected to leak after few years generally? Sorry for noob question.

Tatula Bearing Upgrade
I've noticed that pitching is already pretty good with Tatula. With upgraded bearing, this might become my pitching machine. I'll do it scientifically. Record the distance of say 20 pitches before and after to see if I can spy obvious difference there.

Tatula Bearing Upgrade
Thanks, will contact them. My Tatula's been flushed and oiled already before I even spooled it with line. I am just curious about those upgraded bearings that people talk about.

Rod Length (Please Help)
The trend is longer, 7'+. I went to longer for awhile and now coming back to shorter, meaning 6'6"-6'9". My reason for going longer originally was to be able to cast longer. My reason of going back to shorter, is now I'm happy with the distance I cast with shorter rods, and shorter rods are more joy to use. They are lighter and they are less tip heavy giving everything else is equal. However, this comes down to personal preferences. 6'10", 7', not much difference. Either one will work.

Tatula Bearing Upgrade
I've never upgraded bearings before, but thinking about trying on my Tatula. Where do I find a $20 set that performs? Thanks! ripplin_lips, nice video! You are skilled.

Fenwick Elite Sm Rod Question
I own 69MH-F and I find their rating to be fairly accurate with power, flex and lure rating. Compare to Crucial 6'8" MH F, the balance point is way back by the handle even though the handle is much shorter. I just use whatever for jerkbait and topwater and I am not sure what constitute good rods for those purposes. (Do you want XF for jerkbait and MF for topwater?) HTH

Throwing The Bass!!! Why?!?!?!?! O.o
Oh you know what, I hooked a crappie this winter from deep water. It appeared dead and kept floating back until it finally swam back. I searched about this on the net and I got a tip to squeeze the belly to get some air out and then drop it from some height. I did that when I caught the second time and it worked like a charm. Not about bass but this has some truth to it, I feel. I duno.

What Do You Do To Brand New Reel Before Fishing It?

What Do You Do To Brand New Reel Before Fishing It?
This sounds odd. I have two Citica's that I bought 2 seasons ago. It's been always smooth. These are really brand new reels straight from a dealer, right? Can you take it back and get a new one? Oh and we didn't have winter this year in California. It's in 70's with water temp mid 50's.

What Do You Do To Brand New Reel Before Fishing It?
I do the bearing flush and oil the first thing. But since you are new to this, I don't recommend you open the reel and mess with it at this point. Didn't they come with instruction on how to adjust the spool tension and drag? If not, look those up on internet. You need to spool the line, mount on the rod and put some lure and adjust both. When you said not smooth, is it like grinding not smooth? Are they both about the same? And I think they ship reels with drag all the way loose, in order to preserve the drag in case it sits on the shelves long.

Daiwa Ballistic Casting Rod 7'1" Heavy Or 7'3" Extra Hvy
Any of you have one of these? If so, would you say they are tip-heavy? Is the lure wt. rating fairly accurate? What reel do you put on it, and how does it balance with it? Are they light, average or heavy weight? I'm considering using one of these as a poor man's punch rod. Any opinion? (I know it is shorter than usual punch rod.) Thanks!

Clear Blue Fluorescent Mono Line
You'll be just fine. Up until two years ago, I used to use Clear Blue Fluorescent Fluorocarbon, not mono. I still miss the easy line watching in the twilight zone. I'm all braid at this point, but in the future, I might go back to that set up on some of my reels since I now have more reels/rods than I used to have.

Does Noise Actually Bother You?
Braid noise no, ceramic bearing I don't know as I have never used them, but I can imagine that might bother...

My First Boat
Congrats! So the roller on the bed extender goes pretty close to the water at the ramp? Otherwise, you have to 'lift' it and too much for one person I would think. Please post some pics once you are done. I would love to see the entire set up.

What Length Is Your Jig Rod?
I'm 5'10". I was a fan of longer rods like many. But I went from longer rods to shorter. It is kinda against the general trend. My current jig rods are 6'8", 6'9" range. I have one 6'6" that I use for spoons etc. I like shorter, because they are more balanced from factory without having heavier reels or heavier grip (or full grip). I feel good using shorter rods. After all, fishing is about feeling good. I used to like longer rods because I was able to cast further. This was especially more important when I was bank fishing. However, I am casting far enough already with shorter rods, so the needs for longer rods disappeared on me.

Hi-Vis Colored Power Pro Braid
I've been using hi-vis yellow. The color fades somewhat after using for a while. I wonder if white pops out better or color lasts longer? If anyone has experience comparing between yellow and white, I'd be interested to hear.
