  1. If it's like the old model then it will feel smaller than a 50 size shimano. The side plate is flatter than other 50 size models making it even nicer to palm. At least for me. I haven't used a ton of different gear, but it's one of my favorite reels I've ever used.
  2. AH! I know! I just saw it not too long ago. My only concern is that it will overlap too much with my DX 742c. I love the 742 for light plastics and it's certainly capable of handling weightless plastics. With my Aldebaran BFS on it I can chuck things like weightless trick worms with ease. I'm looking for something with a little more meat to it for when I'm out in the yak around wood and stuff like that.
  3. I like 30#, unless conditions call for a thicker diameter for handling purposes.
  4. Such is fishing I suppose. Or at least fishing gear, haha. Thank you very much for your response though. Since I do fish plastics closer to 90% of the time, and I have other rods to handle spinners and trebles, I think I'm going to continue leaning towards the JWR.
  5. What is the difference between the JWR and the MBR in the Loomis line up? If that's too general a question, would you be able to at least give the difference between the 843MBR and the 853JWR? Thanks!
  6. I've seen this pairing before! I personally like the green rod more and it would be awesome go get my hands on a green 51 shimano, as opposed to the white, grey, black, and gold 51's that I have right now... haha.
  7. I appreciate your word of caution, but I'm quite certain I know what I want. I know the imx is a fine rod, but I am interested in the higher end rods.
  8. So, I'm seriously looking at buying one of these finally. I've never had a Loomis rod before and I figured I might as well go with the top of the line from their offerings. I've done some research but I'm not positive on which rod would be the rod for me. As with all my rods, I'm looking for versatility as I don't have a large aresnal. I will use this rod for feel/bottom contact techniques. I want something that can primarily throw 1/4oz - 1/2oz t-rigs and jigs and weightless senko's/flukes. I'll most likely be putting a Core 51mg7 on the rod. I've read that the 893 is THE rod for weightless senko's and soft jerkbatis, but it seems people usually step it up to the 4 power when throwing 1/2oz jigs. I will stay on the lighter side of the range I mentioned (mostly weightless plastics and a lot of 1/4oz t-rigs), but definitely want something that can handle up to a 1/2oz jig + trailer. I won't be fishing anything incredibly deep, nor will I be throwing into any heavy vegetation. I will, however, expect to be casting around lay downs, light - moderate grass, rocks, stumps, etc. I'm mostly interested in the 7'1 and the 7'5 lengths. Thank you for any help in advance.
  9. I don't throw a chatterbait hardly at all. I do throw spinnerbaits and buzzbaits in my Dobyns 705cb,graphite model. I use braid so I'm not sure how much of a factor that plays. I'll also crank my drag down some more when I put the single hook lures on that rod as opposed to throwing trebles. All that said, hook ups are fine and I feel like I can work the lures like I want with that rod.
  10. I never disliked them. Imo, if you like them, who cares what other people say
  11. I have a spinning rod in the Cumara A line. The handle really doesn't bother me at all. I like the rod a lot.
  12. If you live near the springfield, mo bps, then no. if not, they're great. That's all I use now as far as stick worms.
  13. Welcome to the forums. For my sake, I'm going to pretend those are all pictures of the same fish. I'm so jealous of you Florida guys and your "winters." On a serious note, nice fish!
  14. I really like Powell. Another option that might be worth looking at would be offerings from Phenix. I'm a big fan of dobyns as well, they will just cost you a bit more.
  15. I had one. I bought it in sale for 20%off though. I don't pay full price for anything fishing related. Its a nice feeling reel in hand. I liked it better on some rods than others as far as comfort. Brakes took me a little bit to figure out, but that was because I was treating them like a dual braking system, when really it's not. It was greasy out of the box but that would be my only real complaint. Casts great, smooth retrieve. If it's worthy of the price tag is really only up to you to decide. For the price I got mine for, I was very happy with it. I know there are some guys out there that actually prefer the curado I over the ci4. I can't speak to that as I've only held the curado in store. Hope that helps.
  16. Anywhere there's water with fish in it.
  17. I use the Dx 703sf when I throw shakey heads on a spinning rig. I use it a lot for Senkos, wacky and t-rig. I like it a lot. I'm sure either will be fine. The rod power, IMO, should be mostly based on the weights you plan on throwing. I feel like the 3 power is a versatile rod in the spinning line up.
  18. I don't. The drag always handles fish for me.
  19. I have the cb and no experience with the other models. However, I found when doing my research into which rod would best suit me, people's decision seemed to come down to personal preference. It was about a 50-50 split on the same techniques. I'm sure others will chime in, but my recommendation would be to see if you like it, and if not go for one of the others.
  20. This is what I use as well.
  21. If you stay Dobyns, definitely go a 5 power.
  22. Every spinning set up I have/had has 20# braid. I usually have a lighter fc leader tied on as well. I've never had any issues working plastics, or anything I can think of for that matter.
