  1. Well, that was the problem. I found that the cap at the base of the level wind was lose. Tightening it seemed to solve that problem. But it is still making a clicking/possibly grinding noise. I think I may have to return it.
  2. I've figured out (with some help from someone who messaged me) that it is the level wind. It isn't moving back and forth smoothly. And sometimes it just stops.
  3. Hey guys, now I have a MUCH more important question. I've noticed that as I turn the handle, something happens about every 2.5 rotations. It seems the it gets slightly hard to reel, like I just feel a slight resistance every 2.5 turns of the handle, and it feels kind of rough. This really worries me. Any ideas? There is also a tiny clicking sound that I almost have to hold up to my ear to hear.
  4. Cool. I think I have the brake situation figured out now. Thanks.
  5. My Lews Tournament Speed Spool (TS1H) arrived today. This is my second baitcaster. First one is an H2O Mettle. So I have some questions. 1. My main question is about the brakes. It has a dual braking system. A. How should I adjust the internal brake? It looks quite a bit different than my other baitcaster. B. What number would you advise me to set the external brake at? Keep in mind that I'm still basically a beginner. 2. I'm wondering about the warranty. I got it on ebay, but it's brand new. Does their warranty cover reels sold on ebay? And if so, do I just write "ebay" on the warranty card on the line for the location where you purchased it? Also, is this a lifetime warranty? Their website didn't say anything about it being covered for a certain number of years. Thanks
  6. Keep trying the various different lures like plastic worms, rapala crankbaits, and spinnerbait. Don't give up. Try fishing in and around cover such as weeds, grass, lily pads, and submerged trees or stumps. Don't be afraid to lose a lure by getting in snagged while fishing in cover. It happens to everyone occasionally. But the fish like those kinds of areas.
  7. ALL he threw? I don't think he ever said that it was the ONLY thing he used. But here's the video of him using the Livingston anyway: http://www.bassmaster.com/video/randy-howells-day-3-afternoon-charge
  8. There is a video of him using the Livingston as well.
  9. Wind from the west, fish bite the best I try to tell myself that it's just superstition. But when I'm having a bad day, I find myself checking the wind. Sometimes it's from the east. But like FlipnLimits said, it seems to me like wind from the north is worse. It could just all be in my head though.
  10. I don't have any experience with the Veracity, but overall I think Abu makes good rods. But there are other good rods in that price range to consider. Try to get your hands on a few different ones and see what feels good.
  11. Quality time with family and friends. Enjoying nature. Learning about fishing and fishing gear. Collecting fishing gear. Every fish I catch, even if it's a dink. Figuring out how to catch a fish, even when the place doesn't seem to be producing. I think spending time with family, friends and the universe are the best though.
  12. I've seen bald eagles and hawks catching more fish than I was. And I saw a raccoon swim all the way across the lake and crawl up on shore near where I was fishing one evening last fall.
  13. Yeah, I read that somewhere too. That the prototype he used dove in the 8-10' range. As for the hype. I'm still on the fence about whether I'll even buy a single one to try out or not.
  14. They're worth a try, but they are towards the bottom of my list of favorite Rapala lures.
  15. I was very disappointed when guys at my local bass pro started pestering me about the time shares. I'm in there a lot though, since it's 5 minutes from my house, and the time share guys know not to bother with me anymore.
  16. I don't give up on them either. But they might not see the water again for a long long time.
  17. Any idea how long this sale lasts? I'm broke until Friday. Then again I'm also planning to go to the BPS sale, which starts Friday. So I might have tough decisions about which sale to spend my money at.
  18. Actually, the reason I didn't get more specific in my original post was about what type of line it is, is that I wasn't even sure if it was mono or fluoro. It doesn't say anywhere on the spool. It says, "Vicious Fishing Ultimate". After visiting the vicious website, it looks like all of the lines in their "ultimate" category are mono. I could be wrong though.
  19. The Veritas is 80 bucks at several places. Pretty sweet rod for that price, in my opinion.
  20. Thanks guys... I still am not quite sure what to do with the stuff. I thought about giving it a try, but I'm kind of afraid too now. The line actually feels a little stiff.
  21. Thanks for the insight guys. I have the CRR-5 in Helsinki Shad and Red Craw, and I can't wait to use them. I also have about 6 KVD SK squarebills I have only had limited success on, but I got them late last year so they haven't really had a fair shot yet.
