  1. I don't have the heavy, but I have a MH and it's pretty true to it's power rating. The *** rods are simply amazing.
  2. That brake system makes casting a breeze, so I say spool it up with what WANT to use. Put 3 or 4 brake blocks on, and you should be fine.
  3. Saw a bass tonight cruising the shallows and it had all this brown gunk on him. We tried catching him by hand as we forgot the net but no luck. He was barely swimming and didn't spook at all when we tried to get him.
  4. Well I just bought a Crucial that is a 7' MH with a medium fast action. Not sure how it fishes yet since it hasn't arrived, but by all accounts it should be perfect. I also like to throw them on my 7'1 MH *** with a fast action, as that rod is a tad lighter than what the ratings claim. The *** is a STEAL at $99, and balances awesome with my STX. I will even throw them on my MH Veritas, but I use mono as it has a little more stretch so you don't go ripping the jaws off the bass when you set the hook. Hope this helps.
  5. I appreciate the tip. Hopefully I will save some line now.
  6. I had this same issue with my Revo S. Seeing a problem with a Shimano is like seeing Sasquatch. Very rare. I have a new Chronarch so hopefully mine doesn't develop this issue, as it has the VBS system too. How old is your Citica?
  7. Bass Pro won't match Wal Mart prices, but it sure wouldn't hurt to ask. I tried it last summer and Wal mart isn't looked at as a BPS competitor. Now if anyone is new to the Veritas rods, be warned: The QC on them is at times atrocious. The biggest issue withe micro series is that sometimes the eyes aren't aligned very well. I prefer to always visually inspect the Veritas rods before I buy, but if you have it shipped to the store, you can check it out right then and there and make sure it's in order. Once you get a good one though, they are super nice rods and fish great. Just a heads up.
  8. ALWAYS use a 1 piece rod. Much better sensitivity.
  9. I feel for you guys that don't have a BPS within striking distance.
  10. I literally lol'd! Funny stuff.
  11. I've heard that bug spray eats fishing line. Has anyone found this to be true??
  12. I'd rather order one. You save on tax, and most places ship for free if your order is over $50.
  13. Online only. You can have it shipped to your local wal mart to save on shipping too.
  14. This. I spent $50 on an Okuma Trio spinning reel, and that sucker is awesome and has been problem free. I'll go expensive on my BCs, but I've found that for spinning reels you really don't have to as there are some quality reels that won't break the bank.
  15. Walmart.com has the Veritas rods in all types of configurations for the price listed in the title. Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up.
  16. Get one and try it out. If you don't like it, take it back. Those run about $60 IIRC, and for just a little more you can find a Veritas. EDIT: Walmart.com has the Veritas micro guide series rod in a 7' MH for $72.82. You can get it shipped free to your local store to save on shipping. I'd jump on that deal.
  17. I currently use #10 Yo Zuri on most of my bait casters, but I like to pay more attention to line diameter than anything.
  18. I just have a bad habit of burning the lure, and like I said it makes me concentrate on slowing down and I get more bites when I do. I tried last summer to throw deep cranks on my spinning reel lol as it's a 5:1:1 ratio, and when long lining I couldn't get it down as fast and had to really crank fast to keep it down. I thought the 5 and 6xds were pretty easy, but I never throw them 200 plus times. You probably have Popeye forearms lol! Another thing is, that even though I deep crank a lot in the summer, I still throw lipless cranks a lot more.
  19. I know most of you prefer cranking with a 5:x:1 reel with deep cranks, but is there anything with a 6:5:1 that will affect my performance? I normally only use 6 gear ratio reels for everything, because I find that they force me to concentrate on slowing down. Also, we do a lot of long lining in the summer to cover as much water as possible, and a 6 gear ratio reel lets me get the bait down quicker and stay down. It's been said that deep cranking all day will wear you out on anything but a 5 gear ratio reel, but it doesn't bother me. Does anyone else use a higher ratio reel like me?
  20. Are you using braid? Ish was saying that he won't use anything else for frogging. What does he know though?
  21. Revo STX. Awesome, awesome reel. The dual braking system lets you fine tune that sucker for any baits or conditions, and it's d**n near impossible to backlash once you set it up. It's fool proof. MSRP is $199 but you can find them on Amazon for around $165.
  22. It's funny that you posted this, considering I just watched MLF where they showed what the pros used and how they used. Ish Monroe was saying how he takes pliers and slightly bends the hooks up to where they don't sit perfectly flush with the body of the frog. You don't bend them up a lot though. He says it still stays weedless this way, and improves the hook up ratio tremendously. If you have the bass pass for the extended cast of MLF you can watch how he does it.
  23. They should nickname that fish "Kim Karbassian". What a fatty!
  24. If you look around, you can find a Veritas for around that price.
  25. Got my Chronarch on a Veritas and it does indeed look bad ass.
