  1. I actually say stick bait lol
  2. Been fishing a few local places here in Central VA. Success has been spotty as far as big fish goes but i did get a 6lb 2oz one last weekend. I feel like it is starting to pick up a little.....figures since i am on vacation next week and then the next one i start back to school on wednesday. I am thinking of hitting briery or Sandy on Tuesday before i go back to school though.
  3. Nah, it's just the new Daiwa reels came out so people want more validation they made the best purchase lol
  4. How can picture based weights not be on the list?
  5. I have no problem with someone arguing after i give them advice. They need advice on something so they want to make sure they understand and are convinced that your advice is sound.
  6. it is probably played up some for the show. I would also bet that many of the requests came from minority players in the business more than the actual owners. Watching bar rescue i am fascinated by the science behind it all and his pedigree says that Taffer knows what he is doing.
  7. It isn't dip, it is salsa now
  8. This is far from the truth. The only areas that are public are right of ways that are generally only next to bridges. the width of said right of way varies but generally they are 20-30'. Just because a road goes near a body of water in no way means it is public access. The ask for forgiveness rather than permission approach is a poor one and can get you both in trouble with the law and a landowner.
  9. Here in VA it stands for Geographic Information System. It allows you to search a county in my case and see who actually owns any piece of property. http://www.hanovercountygis.org/Hanover/hanover/#ymin=3736766.1511422014;ymax=3883684.5539199794;xmin=11635512.81412295;xmax=11948012.81412295 Here is the example for the county I live in. Most of the counties surrounding me have something similar as well.
  10. It wasn't required and I completely agree that no way would i allow myself or any member of my family to be chipped. I was talking more about the technology already being available.
  11. Technology has been around for a long long time. I mean they have been chipping animals for as long as i can remember really.
  12. Scratch that.....i can't
  13. do a search with the mapping software of your choice then use your state/county GIS service to determine who actually owns each body of water. Many times those who give or deny permission really don't own the water. Then you can ask permission to fish.
  14. who needs a ramp? of course i fish from a kayak but that's not the point lol
  15. Went to the park and my 7 year old wanted to take some pictures
  16. I do that but it is on accident since it is pretty much impossible to get them both exactly the same length
  17. I have Hybrid on one of my rods and using a topwater works fine. I'd say since you are on a tight budget just go braid with a leader when needed.
  18. It's actually not that unorthodox. People have been throwing baits of various styles and types under floats for years. either way though, nice fish.
  19. When starting out i would say sure, it is more likely. For me I usually can muster up a fish or two unless there are ridiculously bad conditions. I don't think I have been skunked in a few years but i will say there were days I did not catch a bass but did catch other species. Bank fishing is difficult but I would say look around for smaller streams or rivers with difficult access points and see what you can do there. I have some good success around here on smaller flows that have more difficult (still legal though) access.
  20. looks like a longear sunfish to me
  21. It is all about the time i have for me. Within an hour or so rive I have pretty much fished every lake that isn't private. I do fish the same 4 or 5 lakes though with regularity so i can become somewhat familiar with them.
  22. Good looking fish. In my understanding there isn't technically a kentucky spotted bass subspecies. I know there is a northern and the alabama species and i think there is another one as well. Can i take a guess at the lake or would you rather not share?
  23. I fish for all kinds of species on the fly rod. let me see if can come up with a list here: -Brookies -Brown -Golden (the real ones not albino rainbows) -rainbows -Cuthroat -Largemouth -Smallmouth -Spotted bass -Chain Pickerel -Various types of panfish -Crappie -Carp -Catfish -Redfish -Sea Trout I think that is about it lol I hope to add to the list next week... As far as casting that 5wt and frogs, stop trying to muscle the fly and let the rod do the work. Sure it takes a little more time but you shouldn't be tired after casting. In college all i had was a 4wt and i caught everything from brookies to smallies to 20lb+ carp on the same rod. Just gotta open up your loop a little and you will be fine.
  24. When i had my wrangler (s) they all had a Garvin Industries rack on them. They have the ability to fold back and are sturdy as any rack i have seen since. Sure it is a little tall but you can manage with the proper technique. I later graduated to a trailer and couldn't be happier with that decision.....soooooo much easier
