  1. Sixers are finally making moves now that we have a real GM and not some ass clown....i like that he said he was going to sign guys to one year deals and sure enough, that is what he is doing. JJ is a good pick up and will help out the young guys. It will be interesting to see if brett brown is able to coach these guys or not.
  2. Now see on your steak how it has the doneness you want all the way through, that is the reverse sear. The sear first method takes that outer layer and extends it deeper into the meat so you really only get a third or less of the steak at the temp you want. Steaks look good...now i want some
  3. 1000 or 2500 will work fine. I believe the only difference between the 2500 and 3000 is the spool size, the body of the reel is the same
  4. Try the opposite and cook low first then sear...you will get a much more evenly cooked steak. Do a google search for the reverse sear....only way i cook any cut of meat more than an inch thick. That being said, those are some good looking steaks and I am not even a fan of ribeye.
  5. Welcome to the area. Smart move on the set up to fish electric only and HP restricted lakes around here. That is the reason i bought a kayak because there are a ton of those types of lakes around....I may also hit you up on some surf fishing advice for my next trip to the OBX
  6. I have fished in canoes all the time as a kid with multi day trips a few times a year on various rivers plus local lakes and reservoirs. Load capacity is a moot point for me as i will never need to take 800lbs of gear with me, my kayak has capacity of 550lbs or so. I have yet to see a factory seat in a canoe as comfortable as the one in my kayak either but i know there are lots of aftermarket ones you can buy. You also mentioned paddling a canoe full of water, well in a Sit On Top kayak, that is of no concern because they are self draining. Stability in my kayak is better than any canoe i have been in as is the speed with that stability. I can paddle 4mph with minimal effort. As far as being sea worthy is concerned, if i am going out in rougher conditions or windy conditions there is no doubt I am taking a kayak one a canoe. I have been pushed by the wind enough times in my canoe to know that isn't what i want to be doing lol Our discussion here has proved a valid point though, whatever you decide should be based on what you like and what suits your needs. You have more experience in a canoe so that is your comfort zone. I chose to make the switch to a kayak 10+ years ago and couldn't be happier, especially with the advances in kayak technology and the fishing specific boats. if you weren't so far away i'd offer you to take my kayak out and see what you think
  7. My kayak acts nothing like a canoe. Kayaks have come a long ways and even the budget models are very nice and have the ability to be modified to suit your specific needs. Not to mention there isn't a canoe that you can fish from easily that you can take out in rougher water and be safe since they are not self draining like Sit On Top kayaks are. All that being said, a kayak is great for pond hopping and its easy on the wallet as well, or it can be I should say
  8. Topo maps and dragging bottom baits.
  9. Make sure you compare the number of baits in the soft plastic bags because they have bags that come with less than normal amount so it looks like a great deal when in reality it isn't.
  10. usually you have to give something to get something. Make them feel at ease and say you will pick up trash and not keep any fish etc...or if they want fish to eat you can always offer to give them fish too. You kind of have to play it by ear and read the person as you are talking to determine the route to go
  11. Car topping a kayak is more about technique than strength. I cartopped my ATAK 140 on top of my lifted wrangler pretty easily. So this just shows i disagree with the notion that you cannot cartop a SOT that you can stand in.
  12. I have a 9ah 12V battery to run my Helix 5SI unit and it will also all ay without any issues.
  13. I have paddled all those boats and own an ATAK 140 but if i was going majority of moving rivers i am going with the non HD coosa myself. I had one of the original ones and regret selling it even though i fish rivers only about 20% of the time.
  14. Yeah that is true, most people cop a plea deal on something that are completely innocent of and then have to register as a sex offender for three years. I know I would go ahead and plea out t stop it form happening...said no sane person ever. What's even more sad is someone trying to defend these acts because of a word "appeared" while disregarding the quotes from the spokesperson for the city attorney...“We view both of these counts equally in terms of serious nature of child pornography,” Would you take a plea and be forced to register as a sex offender for three years if you believed you weren't guilty? I know i sure wouldn't and I would fight it to the end.
  15. http://people.com/celebrity/pee-wee-actor-settles-kiddie-porn-case/ you were right the first time....
  16. Who cares...oh yeah i forgot he is from Jersey and they have nothing there to brag about...
  17. mine is kind of a play on flyfisherman since that is what i like to do. I intentionally put it as flyfisher since I am pretty sure it isn't even a word as a play against the high brow nature/stereotype of a lot of people who fly fish. It's also a name I use on pretty much every board i am a member of.
  18. I cast with my right and reel with my left on all my gear and that includes my fly rods Works for me....i'm just glad in the conventional world the options for left hand retrieve bait casters have increased over the years.
  19. I get what you are saying as far as competitive balance around the league other than the contenders. It just happens that the contenders are pretty high right now. The league made a bad decision to allow all that extra cap money to come at one time rather than smoothing it out over a few seasons. I honestly think they thought KD was gonna go home to DC or to Boston and got bit in the ass when he went to GS. And sixers 3rd....all the heavyweights from the late 70's through the mid 80's really.
  20. LeBron can't do it on his own but he d**n well tried....As far as legitimate contenders, it has always been 3-4 teams that were legit contenders. there are always the top teams and as second tier that may have an upset or two but rarely does true contender get upset early in the playoffs. I'm definitely a fan of the NBA and I want the best teams playing at the end and we without a doubt had that just too much firepower from GS.
  21. I have a sportsrig trailer myself. I looked at the harbor freight deals and wasn't impressed. I went with a trailer designed for kayaks etc.. instead of a utility trailer designed for having heavier loads. This one uses motorcycle suspension and larger tires to handle lighter weight loads with no bouncing around. They aren't cheap by any means but i have zero complaints with mine and can see it lasting a long time.
  22. Check your credit card statement because they went to auto renew a few years ago.
  23. Whatever size you want to use. I haven't found an instance where rod length has been a hinderance for me with the lone exception being some of the smaller creeks/rivers I fish where overhanging trees can snag a rod or two. I have used anything from 6' up to 9' fly rods with no issues.
  24. There is a local place here in Richmond VA called City dogs and they make some really good hotdogs. They mimic the popular dogs from around the country and have a few of their own as well. What is funny is at home i am a basic condiment guy on my hot dogs...ketchup and spicy brown mustard but when i go out i will try all kinds of stuff, just tastes different I guess. oh, and baseball stadium hot dogs are also really good...
