  1. I have lived in richmond for over 10 years and i have yet to fish for LM in the james. All that being said, nice fish
  2. Well, here is the trailer al assembled and ready to go. It is a little tall with the cage on there but it is sitting on PVC so it slides pretty easily. I'll see after a few launches if i want to leave the cage on there all the time or only put it on there when needed.
  3. yeah, buy one. Do a search on here as there are a ton of spots about this very topic. I will say go to a demo days and try out a ton of boats and make a decision after paddling, don't get caught up in all the hype and have fun.
  4. I am ok with being in the minority when we may have the ability to prevent a species from being eradicated from this earth. I does concern me that someone who is looking to be in the fisheries field doesn't want to help and save a species from potential extinction....i guess it is what it is.
  5. nope. For the helix just adjust your chart speed to your boat speed and you will be fine. I keep mine at 1 unless i am actively paddling then i will increase it to 3 or 4 and it seems to work well.
  6. I like my Helix 5SI unit but i am still learning how to best use it.
  7. Maybe to you but not to ecosystem in general. I am all for saving any species.
  8. it would be a 6'6"-7' MHF bait casting rod...i tried spinning and didn't like it.
  9. a good organization doesn't have allegations and convictions of cheating no matter how successful. I also saw a report that said basically the league isn't doing anything else with the suspension but i am not sure if that means they are going to suspend him or not.
  10. The suspension being upheld has nothing to do with guilt, it has to do with the league having the right to suspend him which the court said, yeah they do.
  11. No such thing as luck Luck is where preparation meets opportunity and in fishing, that can't be more true.
  12. Except it isn't just the laws of gas and thermodynamics. The blindness of fans makes me laugh......
  13. Gotcha. The beauty of kayak fishing is that you can pretty much do whatever you want. You will kayaks that look like battleships with all the gear, flags, motors, 12" screen electronics etc....and you will see those with one rod. Do whatever you want and whatever works for your fishing style. Don't give into all the hype I take anywhere from 6-7 rods when fishing with conventional gear, my crate which holds a bunch of tackle, a bump board, pliers, scissors and a scale. when I am fly fishing I take 2-3 rods, a few fly boxes and that is about it. Don't get an "angler" package kayak and don't drill any holes till you go out a bunch of times and figure out what you want and where you want it. I have been fishing out of a kayak for a long time and my last kayak which I bought last yea, I went out probably 6-8 times before i decided what i wanted and where i wanted it.
  14. If you are looking for inspiration, pretty much everything that was mentioned i have seen a variant of in the fly fishing world. I use my fly fishing chest pack quite often when i am wading with my conventional gear.
  15. You asked for a better kayak experience so my question is, What made your previous experience less than desirable?
  16. seems ok but i have no experience with them. That paddle is also not a $300 paddle, no matter what the ad says. I personally wouldn't offer more than a few hundred for it because you will need to replace that seat anyways
  17. i think the recourse for brady has been exhausted now though. He will most likely serve the four game suspension because there is no way the league, after all this mess, will go back on their original amount of games. Of course with dictator goodell in charge nothing really surprises me anymore.
  18. I saw this....cracks me up really. I am not sure if he can appeal the appeal or not though.
  19. I don't think i have seen that H crate before...pretty slick.
  20. i used to have rods on my crate but i didn't like them. My current kayak has a lot of space so i actually have 6 flush mounts behind my seat so i usually gave one in hand and 6 in the holders or depending on the situation, i may use on holder for my stakeout pole and have two rods at my feet, makes it easier to get to the stake out pole.
  21. very nice. those are the size i love to catch on my fly rod.
  22. it takes about 45 seconds to tie a knot so i go that route with the exception of crank baits where i will use a snap but no swivel. I have yet to have one open up on me but i do change them out every few trips because opening and closing hem has to weaken them i would think. As far as action goes, the added weight in the front of the bait will change the action, depending on the presentation of course and also will collect more grass. There is an easy solution, buy more rods I also fish out of a kayak and bring anywhere from 6-7 rods with me so i don't have to switch out baits, It is easier to just grab another rod when needed.
  23. This pretty much nails it with the exception that bull and brook "trout" are actually char as stated by others. then there are the golden as well.
  24. i wouldn't use ratchet straps as you don't need that level of force. I have seen and heard of many kayaks being deformed from the undue stress of using a ratchet strap. A quality cam buckle strap is more than sufficient to hold it in place.
