kayak fisherman
i have used everything from 6'6" bait casters to 9' fly rods and they all work fine. it is really a matter of preference. the advent of the ability to stand and having a raised seat has really eliminated many of the "problems" people had in the past with longer rods while fishing out of a kayak.

Line for crankbaits
6 or 8lb diameter braid works for me.

Going stir crazy...want to fish.

Road To The Super Bowl!
I don't want him in Philly. He couldn't beat Philly but he is a disciplinarian type of coach which this team might need. He does have a winning pedigree though so i guess we will see what happens. I really don't think the Eagles are as far off as their record indicated. They had some decent wins this year and i do think that the defense is much better than they played but the high tempo offense, when not successful, wears on the defense over the course of a season. I mean they defended basically an extra game this season. Every team in the NFC east has a lot of big decisions to make all the way from coaches to major player movements. should be interesting .

Road To The Super Bowl!
Like i said before, the skins are the least crappy of the crappy teams in the NFC East and are being exposed by a good team. Reed is dropping balls left and right (he is the best player on the team though), Mesean Jackson is a ghost, like always in the playoffs and the defense is getting trashed straight up the gut. The skins are not a good team plain and simple. Now off to an exciting offseason for the entire NFC east...

Kayak for Tournament Question?
I have never seen any type of limitations on modifications to your kayak for fishing. The only caveat is adding propulsion as some do have rules regarding that.

Walk the Dog lures on constant reel
Mann's 1 minus or any of the large wake baits would work somewhat mimic the action.

Let's See if Dave Hits This One
Yeah VA shuts down pretty much at the forecast of snow. I don't mind driving in the snow at all, i like it actually.

Let's See if Dave Hits This One

Let's See if Dave Hits This One
i don't think he was wrong on this one because he did call out this possibility early on. I have seen him be pretty wrong before though but few and far between......and he always admits it right off the bat too. I would love to have a nice snow event the 19th or whenever actually lol

your experience with suspending jerkbaits
All shadow raps are sinking baits albeit slow and that is by design. There are so many variables involved but i like the shadow raps and x raps myself. I usually upgrade hooks and do so after i test them in real world situations so i know if i should go with a heavier weight hook or keep it the same.

Recommended spinning reel for "skipping"
Agreed on everyone else's posts saying it doesn't matter. As far as my favorite spinning reels i am going with the stradic series. I have some of the standard and one CI4 and they are all i will buy from here on out. Durable and great reels. You can also find them used or on sale when new models come out and save a good bit of money.

New to fishing. What kayak should I buy?
It sticks out as far as you want it to really. I have side imaging so mine is about this far out: If you have a non side imaging unit you can have it completely protected. Usually when i am beaching the boat i unhook the latches that hold the pod down in case it hits or i just pull it up a little bit.

New to fishing. What kayak should I buy?
The thing to remember too is that width of the kayak is more important to comfort than the length of the boat. By that i mean many boats of the same series that have different lengths have the same size cockpit area. Yet another reason to try before you buy

Advice and Tips for future GUIDE?
one positive is that you if you get decent boats the resale will still be good but i also get the upfront cost will be higher. Have you thought about all the gear you will have to be providing for your clients too?

Advice and Tips for future GUIDE?
I think you limit your clientele base if you are looking for kayak fisherman only as most i know wouldn't use a guide service really. It also opens up your possibility to have group kayak teaching lessons about basic safety, self rescue and then kayak fishing.
-
Advice and Tips for future GUIDE?
Since you are going to be a kayak based guide i would get ACA instructor certification and make sure you are well versed in self rescue situations. Also be sure to look at any liability that you may be responsible for should an accident happen. Even with waivers and the like, it doesn't mean you won't have to deal with it in court should something go awry.

Road To The Super Bowl!
The redskins didn't put the eagles out of the playoffs last year. It was a colts loss to the cowboys i believe that did them in. This year, sure the redskins had a win at the end of the season but really it was the crappy kicking game early on that cost us 2-3 games and losing to teams we should have beaten like the lions and/or bucs. The Eagles underachieved where the redskins pretty much played at their level, which is;t even that good. They were the best of the crappy teams....

Backing on reels
whatever you have laying around. I used braid before and it worked well, just make sure you put it on super tight.

2nd Year as BPS Local Pro!
Commercialization isn't a bad thing. It has given all of us tons of rods and reels and lures to choose from. Just because it is all about the brand names doesn't mean it has to be for you. When i first started fly fishing there were only a few heavy hitters in the market which limited your choices. Now there are tons of good rods and reels to use. Also the same can be said about kayaks. My first kayak I used for fishing was an old sit inside model that was not good for fishing but i made it work. Fast forward 10+ years and you can have anything you want. That makes me think that maybe some talk about alternative vessels to get you on the water and they don't have to be big motor fiberglass boats either. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Which Costa lens color?
I think they have some sort of film in there because i had that exact situation happen with a fly that came back and hit me square in the lens. The lens cracked but it did not shatter. May not be the norm but i figure in all my years of fishing that was the first time it happened so I should be good for a few more years hopefully lol
