  1. cycling, hiking, climbing and paddling work for me.....i love basketball but since injuring my back i haven't played in years.
  2. Redfish is one of the best boats for the money out there....seat kind of sucks but it isn't to bad all things considered. It was my first boat and i sold it to a buddy and he loves it.
  3. Jet boats can be finicky too so without a test drive and a motor check out by a mechanic there is no way i would be plunking down any cash. personally if i was looking at jet boats i would lean towards the inboard side as they are much easier to handle than an outboard when navigating rocky rivers as you are only turning the output not the entire motor which is ok if you are just traveling shallow areas but not so much when more maneuvering is needed when dodging boulders and ledges.
  4. I am not to concerned about my kayak spooking fish any more than in a regular boat.
  5. On rivers i can always catch them on a nose hooked 3-4" stick bait. Not the most exciting fishing but it never fails to produce
  6. Unless you need a jet boat i would bet you could get more boat for the same money with a conventional prop boat. I do like the deck layout too but you can find that type of layout out there as well. when i am in the market fro a boat i will be considering getting one because i like to hit the rivers and the lakes around her rare grassy and unclogging an outboard jet is easier than an inboard one. Oh and for comparison, my dad bought a mid 90's tracker pro jet which has a 175hp (i think) inboard jet (which only loses about 10% of HP as opposed to around 25-30% for an outboard) with low hours and he got it for a shade under 10k....i will tell you though it is pretty freaking cool to be cruising along at 45mph and only need about 6" of water while on plane and cruising through rapids....he lives within about 15 minutes from a shallow river though so for him it makes total sense to have a jet.
  7. Jet boats are great for running shallow water but the handling is completely different than a prop boat. You also lose a good bit of horsepower by having an outboard jet. Personally, unless you are looking for a river boat i would keep looking as these crafts are a little more specialized. I would also want to see if it is a tunnel hull or just a raised transom to accommodate the jet and get the shallowest draft. I am not sure on that price though because i have seen nicer boats for a little bit more. it is cool boat though but the jet boat world is a lot different....
  8. Nice!! So on a complete thread hijack....how is Van Sciver lake fishing these days? My dad used to be a member there when i was a kid but now we just drive by on the way to the river to put in down there....I haven't fished it in probably 20 years if not longer since i now live down in VA but my prints still live up in levittown.
  9. Most kayaks are made of plastic that is UV protected but it will break down over time. While it is better to keep them out of the sun, the chances of you having any issues with a boat stored in the sun is slim to none. I have always stored my boats outside on racks i have on our privacy fence with the hull up with no issues. I should cover them with a tarp or something but i would rather not have that hassle when i am wanting to get out quick after work And you can store them on the stern for most models but make sure you have some sort of strap to prevent it from falling both out and sliding parallel to the wall you are storing them on...i have seen that happen on more than one occasion. You can also just use some 303 protectant on it if you are concerned as it is a uv protectant.
  10. I work as a process engineer for a large bank but I am currently finishing up my masters in education so i can get my teaching certification and hopefully be teaching by the 2015-2016 school year.
  11. I just rig mine weightless texas rigged instead lol I never got into the wacky rigging but i know it produces and i might have to give it another whirl this season.
  12. I agree with you on this one completely. I have a buddy who is ultra conservative and his argument in these cases is where does it stop. If they go in there now and do this then more and more will be added in the future. I guess i don't see the conspiracy side as much as most and see it more as a natural evolution of how things should change to keep a safe society. Gone are the days of in the street duels where the winner was alive and the loser, well we all knew what happened there. I have no problem showing my ID to any LEO pretty much at any time they ask for it. I have nothing to hide and if by me showing ID it eases their mind then who am i to stop that. It is their job to ensure the safety of everyone, not just the non OC or CCW and keep the peace. I have a serious problem with anyone who is out there to try and show up the man for the sake of showing up the man....never ends well and usually ends up worse for all parties involved.
  13. Bring on the snow!! i am already off monday so if we could get two more days of "code red" meaning i am not required to go in to work, i could have a 5 day weekend in my future
  14. Considering over half this thread was dedicated to saying it was a fake or how some people believe anything i would say this is Commander in Chief Obvious......
  15. I am on my last day of the rest week, which really means no resistance training, in the first 30 days of p90x and I am jonesing to get started again tomorrow....Haven't lost but a few pounds but that really wasn't my goal but i am definitely getting stronger and i am looking forward to the next 30 days.....now if i could just stop using the smoker i got for Christmas every weekend i might see even more gains
  16. I am guessing legalese is pretty important should you have to use your gun and those ramifications should be understood or at least acknowledged because even in a self defense case, it will still be up to you to prove that it was just that, self defense.
  17. It may work or it may not, you really won't know till it is built. The weight ratings are a best estimate really but the true limiting point is going to be if a bait that light can load the rod effectively enough to be able to cast it. I find spinning rods to be more forgiving on lighter baits than bait casters.
  18. Virginia is an open carry state (I am pretty sure) and i have never seen anyone open carry. I don't care either way but it would seem that a CC at least has a few checks in place to ensure the carrier at least knows what they should do in a situation. Also, who is to say the criminals won't open carry too. The other thing people miss is that LEO have a very tough job and have to take the best interest of the overall public in a given area into consideration when approaching a person. If someone open carrying in a place causes unrest i don't have any problem with a LEO talking to the person and letting them know that while their behavior is completely within the realm of the law, it can still make people feel uncomfortable. I personally don't see an OC as anything more than an attention grab and a hey look at me mentality but like i said, that is my perception and even if not the OC person's intent, perception is a big deal and does not educate anyone really.
  19. You could also say the flip is true as it can lead to undeharvesting. I know a few of the trophy lakes around managed by slot limits encourage you to take your limit of under the slot sized bass to furhter enhance the possibility of larger fish growing and allow the natural forage to be comsumed by larger rather than small bass. I am convinced that there are a lot more larger fish out there than people think but unless they are caught, or shockedu p there is no way to know. I do know here in VA there was a report that two state record beating fish were shocked up in the past few years so they are out there now it is just figuring out how to catch them
  20. So really the only way a bass should be the record is if it is one of hte original native fisheries so all of texas, california and i beleive florida are out and if additional forage is introduced that doesn't count either so pretty much every fishery is out then too... Now if it is some dude growing a big fish in a 150 acre pond in an attempt to get a record then that i have a problem with but since the majority of lakes did not naturally have bass and bass were added in to be part of a healthy fishery i don't have a proiblem with that at all. Just because you can grow a big fish, doesn't mean you can catch her too....
  21. Not many places have largemouth as a native fish...i believe that it was originally only native to a small part of eastern NA. And by hand feed they do not mean they are physicall had feeding, it means they are supplementing the forage bass by adding in trout.
  22. Haven't heard of those but they look pretty cool. I may have to add a few to my next order
  23. I would go with the MXF and not the MH model. I have a similar st croix rod as far as power and action and it is probably the most versatile rod I own. I also would think that a 6'3" MHF spinning rod would be very pool cue like due to the shorter length.
  24. Sharp hooks and braid means you don't really need the hero hook set. Get out the slack and snap the rod. Also, when setting the hook in the kayak you won't pull yourself towards the fish enough if at all to make any impact on the hook set. Once they are hooked then yes, you can get pulled around pretty easily for sure. Some days they just don't take the bait as well though and they get off, it is just how it works.
  25. You are a better man than me because my better half doesn't have a clue how much my stuff costs lol I am glad i haven't gotten into the high end stuff for conventional fishing gear though because it would be a bad thing......i can justify they fly rod though because in al reality it is one rod that can do all things from big streamers to poppers to bottom baits and everything in between which would take 3-4 set ups to do in conventional gear...so in all reality i am saving money :D
