  1. I used EAS straight whey protein for a while but the cholesterol was higher than it probably should be so i recently switched over to egg protein from optimum nutrition. A buddy of mine who owns a couple of gyms down in FL recommended it to me so i am giving it a whirl.
  2. The egg is a good bait from BPS but the finish stinks. I used one on a float trip and by the end of the trip it had almost no color left and the hooks were terrible. To be fair, it was used heavily for three days and caught me a lot of fish but the quality of the bait seemed lacking. After upgrading the hooks out of necessity i was in the range of the rapala baits and they, to me, are more durable.
  3. Whatever the most expensive bait you own is always a good choice....at least for me it has been as they bite through my line and swim away grinning... the few times i targeted them specifically, with a bite leader, i had success with anything shiny and moved fast seemed to do the trick. really it seems like speed is more important than anything though in my experience.
  4. I get the whole bath rug thing but to me it is not really relevant as the boat is heavy. If i am loading a heavier boat i want some reason other than price that it is heavy. Personally i have a trailer in mind so weight isn't as much a concern but paddling a heavy boat isn't going to be as easy as a lighter one. Also as long as the handles are in the center of the boat loading is generally not an issue, at least for me. I plan on getting a pedal drive boat in the future and i know loading it will not be easy, hence the reason i am saving for a trailer
  5. Seems like that is a bad idea for a square bill. When i fish a square bill part of what keeps it being so snag free is it's ability after hittin an obstruction to then float up and free itself. Seems like the suspending version would be getting snagged a lot...
  6. I checked one out in the store and it is just ok but for the price it is a decent deal. As far as begin a game changer, not sure i think that but it will allow people to get into kayak fishing with a more fancy boat than in year's past. There are two things about this boat I did not like, one was the seat. I had a coosa so i figured the seat in this one would be similar but there was something about it that just didn't feel right no matter how much i adjusted it. The second is the weight, that thing is a pig!! They list it at 77lbs which means it is probably 5lbs more give or take. To me that is a really heavy boat for something in that length. As far as standing goes, it does look as though the hull would facilitate standing easily but the area to stand isn't really that large. It has that hatch in the middle which takes away floor space. Also with that higher seat i doubt you will stand often anyways, it seems like the ability to stand in a kayak is the new buzz word. I had a coosa and have a commander and could stand in both but i rarely did in the coosa because the higher seat position negates a lot of the need but it does make it easy to stand up and stretch your legs. Now in the commander i will stand for certain presentations but generally unless you are anchored up or there is zero breeze, you will blow around pretty good if you are standing. I wouldn't hesitate to get it but i would also keep your eyes peeled on craigslist because there are always deals to be had on people upgrading....including myself here i nteh next month or two lol So al this advice is worth exactly what you paid for it and also i never paddled the boat, just checked it out in the store...
  7. Personally i wouldn't move to the NoVa area if you doubled my salary......way to much congestion, traffic and super expensive housing but that is just me. As far as frozen water goes, down here in the central VA area i have seen some ice but nothing is left anymore. The last two years I was able to fish all winter and never once had to worry about ice.
  8. I always hear people talk about the hunting action of a crankbait. All crank baits act similarly but some may have a tighter wobble but they all have the same basic movement unless you are talking scatter raps as they do have much more movement than your standard crank. The whole hunting action of a crank bait is nothing more than a term KVD used and people now use it in the same way.....believe it or not but square bills have been around a lot longer than KVD has been hawking the SK square bills.
  9. I prefer the rapala square bills over all the other ones i have used. I will tie on another brand every once in a while to see if they produce more but i always come back to the rapala.
  10. It seems like getting one that is solely manual is silly. I mean you are using it for protection in case something happens and you get wet and i do realize that 99% of the time, 100% for me so far, you will not be knocked out when you hit the water but for that 1% a manula pull won't really do you any good when you need it. I am still toying with the idea of getting one becasue i am due for a new PFD and could stil use the traditional one on float trips.
  11. I guess I misunderstood it saying normal wear and tear as meaning normal wear and tear not something made up and read into more than what it says. I guess I take warranties at what is written not implied as my background is in dealing with legal type language. Will they probably replace it no matter what, yeah but that is taking advantage of a company and more importantly not being honest. If a rod has a manufacturing defect it will fail early on not 6 months down the road. As someone with your self proclaimed mastery and knowledge of all things fishing related apparently I would think that you would know many factors contribute to a rod breaking or failing and the majority are not manufacturing related, but like I said you probably already knew that.
  12. States with no income tax generally make up for it elsewhere like in FL's case, property taxes but the public school systems suck down there but i digress. If i had to pick a state i would go with florida. lots of different lakes to choose from and then there is also the salt too. I am still trying to talk my fiancee to move down there but she won't go that far away from her family....
  13. Diascund is gonna be tough i think due to the extremely low, as in 6 feet or so below normal, water levels but on the flip side it may warm up more quickly too because of said water levels. I have done well out there with your normal early baits like crank baits, jerk baits and finesse baits. Diascund has some great flats that warm up pretty fast and the fish move up there to feed so i would hit those areas first and if nothing there, find the creek channel nearby and fish the drops. Good luck!!
  14. I am in the exact opposite group as far as pockets go. If i could find one with no pockets i would be fine. I rarely use them and if i do, it is usually items i shouldn't have in them anyways like my cell phone, should i take a dip. I wear mine probably 95% of the time. the only times i don't wear one is when i am doing a paddle upstream in the heat or if floating a flat stretch of river and need to cool off a little bit. Other than that, I put it on as soon as i unload the kayak and take it off only once i am back at the Jeep.
  15. Whatever fits well, you will wear when on the water and is in your price range works. There are so many out there that it is hard to pick one. I have an astral right now that is due for a replacement this season. Question for you guys with the inflatable ones. How do they work as far as when they are engaged? Does it happen due to pressure of the water or are there other ways to trigger it? Also, what if you are on a float trip, take a dunk and it goes off. Are you then stuck without a PFD for the rest of the trip or are you stuck wearing it inflated or do you carry spare co2 cartridges? Seems like they would be comfortable but a hassle too if you have to worry about carrying one more thing with you.
  16. I guess I am in the minority here because i like the super slick better. It doesn't seem to get that fray like the regular power pro does over time and it seems to be a smaller diameter but that may be attributed to the fray on regular PP. It does seem like the super slick is a little more abrasion resistant to so not sure if that is due to more strands or what but that is my experience when using it around rocks. They are both really good though and i wouldn't hesitate using either one of them.
  17. Actually you are mistaken on the St Croix warranty. Their warranty covers only faulty workmanship.... 2. If your rod was damaged due to faulty workmanship, then of course we will cover the cost of the repair or replacement during the warranty period. 3. However, if evidence indicates that the damage is due to an accident, normal wear or neglect, then we’ll advise you of the additional cost to repair or replace your rod. basically 20 dollars to cove shipping back and whatever it costs to ship to them, 15 if you use their fed ex shipping option....their gold star plan covers any type of break regardless of fault and is 50 or 75 depending on the rod line plus shipping back to st croix.
  18. www.freerice.com check it out and it will help boost your vocabulary. It was actually a site that was recommended to help those taking hte Praxxis (teaching aptitude) test.
  19. ADD has nothing to do with being a poor or excellent writer. The only way you will become a better write is to write a lot and read a lot, and no, bass magazines and the like aren't going to be as beneficial as say real books the next thing to consider is what are you looking to write. Are you thinking of articles or just in general. Many people have great thoughts but getting them down on paper and conveying the same feelings you had in your thoughts is not hte easiest thing to do and it takes practice, like anything else in this world lol
  20. The other problem is it seems the line betewen warranty and replacement has become uncotrollably blurred. Very rarely are rods broken under warranty conditions. I think that is why St Croix moved to their gold & silver plans instead. You are basically paying for a replacement rod not getting a warranty.
  21. interesting they have it there but not in their fine print.....I stand corrected. All the talk about the shimano over the counter warranty has made me want to get one as my next rod to try them out It also doesn't hurt that the local shop down the street from me is a dealer too.
  22. more than i should but it is still winter
  23. gotcha...that is a strange scenario for sure.
  24. Care to show me where it says that on their warranty? http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/customer_service0/Rod_Warranty.html "Shimano Rod - Limited Lifetime Warranty As used herein, “Shimano” will mean “Shimano American Corporation” with respect to United States warranty claims and “Shimano Canada Ltd. / LTÉE” with respect to Canadian warranty claims. Shimano and Shimano Canada Ltd. / LTÉE warrant to the original retail purchaser that this rod will be free from non-conformities in materials and workmanship. Shimano's sole obligation under this Limited Lifetime Warranty is to repair or replace, at Shimano's option, a non-conforming rod at no cost to the original retail purchaser other than the cost of packing, insuring, and shipping the rod to Shimano. This Limited Lifetime Warranty will be considered VOID if the rod is found to have been subjected to repairs not authorized by Shimano, or if it has been modified, neglected, improperly maintained, misused, abused, or the appearance of the product reveals damage by your failure to provide proper maintenance." I don't see anything about over the counter warranty mentioned....
