  1. I am definitely looking forward to it this year as we expanded out quite a bit. I'll try and take some pics as i go through the process Last year i started taking pics every few days to do a time lapse deal but i forgot a few weeks in lol I have tried the spice thing with basil and all that but never have any luck. I may try again this year though as nothing beats fresh basil on just about anything.
  2. I thought about going all organic but I am new to this and don't have the time to research all the various techniques right now. I do have a few heirloom varities in my veggie mix so that should be cool. I almost got some eggplant because they looked cool but I never eat them lol
  3. So last year in an effort to help to teach my son that the food we buy at the supermarket has to be grown and takes work so we should be appreciative of the efforts involved we grew a garden last year. We followed the square foot gardening technique where basically you have a series of raised beds and do not use row spacing but rather individual plant spacing for your planting. . The technique maximizes space. Anyways last year we did jalapeños, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers and tried some cucumbers and squash but the varmints got to them. Well this year i was perusing the burpee website and next thing you know i have 150 worth of seeds in my cart, after downsizing I am hoping to start planting this weekend after building the garden out a little larger than last year, well who am i kidding, it will be at least double the size. Here is what is on the menu: Butter lettuce Romaine Arugula carrots 4 types of tomatoes brussel sprouts 2 types of onions green peppers 3 types of hot peppers cucumbers squash zucchini peas lima beans spinach and i am sure there are other things i missed....I am going to be mapping it out this week and building it this weekend... anyways, any one else do up a garden? I know last year it was pretty awesome to walk in my back yard before dinner and pick the stuff to make a salad and it was also great to see my 3 1/2 year old go over to the tomatoes while playing out side and popping a few cherry tomatoes off and eat them as a snack
  4. I wonder what their warranty is...i would guess it is a no fault replacement but who knows. I Know some of the higher end fly rod companies are pretty much no questions asked kind of deals and i know a guy who had a high end Winston fly rod who didn't break his rod but he did lose a tip section on a river. He called them up, they said send it in and within a few weeks he had a new tip section...free of charge.
  5. Keep in mind fly rods are waaaaay more versatile than a conventional rod. I can fish everything from top, to bottom bouncers and everything in between with my fly rod. It also does the job very well regardless of the technique begin presented so the $900 combo doesn't sound nearly as bad when i justify it that way...at least that is what i keep telling myself
  6. I have won off and on on scratch tickets up to a couple grand and a few 100-500 pots in the lottery drawings. Whenever there is a big jackpot i go to a place that is further away because it always seems like when they release the name it is someone who was traveling through and not from there who wins....may as well be me I do have theory on scratch tickets that has worked pretty well for me though on the few times i get some. I will pick one type and get 20-50 worth. Whatever i win i keep putting back into that same game until i get the prize i want or go broke. My theory is that unlike drawing games, there are only a finite numb of scratch tickets played and the more i can play the same ticket and the same game the better my odds get with each scratch. It always baffles me why people would go in and get 5 different games, it only lessens your chances.
  7. Schaub is a serviceable QB and is better than anything the raiders have had for a while. And as far as scum bag fans go....didn't he throw a pick 6 in 4 straight games or something ridiculous?? Seems like a good reason to boo him to me
  8. So me and the fiancé drove from Richmond to myrtle beach today for a little weekend away....on the drive I cannot believe how many people don't understand how to merge. I am on the highway you are joining in to my lane, you either hit that skinny pedal called the gas or slow down and get behind me. It is pretty basic stuff.....and one more thing is we went to a place for dinner, seemed nice got good reviews and when asked what was recommended they said well we are known for our ribs.....after getting them I wonder by who because they sucked. Boiled meat slathered in sauce that had no balance of flavor....just plain bad
  9. Yeah when you get to 80/20 the ground turkey is better for you but the texture is horrible....i tried it in some chili once because i figured it is in chili it has to hide the texture some....yeah i was wrong. I browned up a pound of ground beef to add in
  10. I would like to think that in the majority of cases the man is stronger than the woman and can leave the situation or subdue her, but yes, in a matter of life or death the gender of the aggressor is irrelevant in my mind...
  11. I have done the ground turkey thing but yeah it sucks....and after checking the nutrition info, it isn't any better for you than 93/7 ground beef, which is what i always use...i figure it is a compromise.
  12. Hearing my 3 1/2 year old coughing on the monitor at about 2am last night...then heard foot steps then heard him say daddy i am sorry to wake you up but i don't feel good and i got sick all over my bed...the fiancé cleaned the room up while i cleaned up him and then spent the day with him...luckily no more puking but there were plenty of trips to the bathroom to rid himself of the devil inside him that apparently shows itself in the form of the Hershey's squirts..
  13. What was said ground beef going to be used in anyways? I mean come on man....you could have rigged some electrical **** in there and had it cook from the inside out like i saw Mr. Wizard do with a hot dog when i was a kid
  14. You did what you thought was right and that is what matters....glad you were safe and no worse for the wear. I have stepped into a few of those types of situations and luckily it never came to anything physical and they stopped. There is no reason to ever hit a woman....
  15. I guess i am different because i live within 15 minutes from a BPS and they are building a cabelas too....and still don't go...i shop online or at the local place right down the street. I guess the bait monkey is just a constant force with me and buying online is soooooo easy i just go that route instead
  16. They are producing but i think throwing a swimbait is something that takes time to learn and patience to actually do. You truly are looking for those one or two big bites in a day and most people, myself included, don't have that type of patience but thsoe who do, catch some big fish for sure and many in places people thought there weren't big fish. I am contemplating going for it this year and making myself take the tiem to learn the technique.
  17. Bing a pro at fishing requires dedication and ability. It is not a lucrative career for many and like has been stated before, there must be something to fall back on should ht need arise. If you are single and have no family or minimal obligations and responsibilities then it makes things much easier. I have done some competitive sports before and moved my way up but there comes a point where it becomes a job. This doesn't mean it isn't fun anymore but when food on your table and a roof over your head is dependent on your success it changes the ballgame. That is one reason i say if you are young go for it, if you are able to support yourself financially then go for it....the hard part is being honest with yourself about your abilities and your financial stability to make a drastic change. Personally i am going through a similar change in the career world and I am leaving a good bit of money on the table but it is what i want to do and can make it happen so to me, it is worth it.
  18. i wondered what the kids called it these days.....
  19. Is this the beginning of "roid rage"?
  20. http://www.sliderfishing.com/Snagless-Pro-Head-3-0-Black-Nickle-Hook-3-per-pack-WSH-U3-WSH-U3.htm I use these or my new favorite that i will be using more frequently, the draggin head...seems to never get snagged in the rocks. http://confidencebaits.3dcartstores.com/Draggin-Head_c_11.html
  21. I would C&R this one too...i mean yes he had a record but to me a line class record isn't quite the same thing as the all tackle record. Does anyone know the line class records for largemouth? I know i don't and am not even sure if they exist.
  22. switch baits....i use the jika rig with success on those types of lakes myself.
  23. I like both but usually go shaky head in more open cover type situations and t-rigs in more dense cover. I prefer slider heads when rigging baits for smallies in rocky rivers.
  24. My first jeep a 72 wagoneer with 25k miles i bought for 1500 in 1998 or so....sold it after the power steering pump leaked on the manifold and caught fire to the engine bay for 2500. My next wrangler i bought in 2000, was a 95, for 8k and sold it 10 years later for 8k so not to bad there... As far as stocks go i have done pretty nicely here latley in the legal mary jane biz after buying stocks that were pennies in november of last year and some are up as high as $30 or so. The one penny stock that burns me up, even though i made money was one that i bought on a whil, put 1k in the stock at around .05 or so. Ove the next few weeks it continued to climb up and was at over $2 a share. As most people who play with these stocks know, the majority of the stock increases are all false and based on those penny stock emails that are out there in an effort to falsely drive up the price....well this was one of those. I went into a meeting and the price was at about $2.50 a share....when i came out of hte meeting an hour later it dropped to $1.75. I sold and still made a ton of cash based on my investment but it could have been a lot more....i think the company has since closed down or at the very least changed ticker symbols.
  25. I have never had the pleasure of catching them on the "mulberry" hatch as they call it but i have caught them while feeding on top twice and it is a blast. The one i mentioned was at a pond of maybe 5-7 acres that you could almost walk all the way around and he got me well into my backing 2 or 3 times. it was more of let him do his thing and hope i could get him close enough to the shore to land him. He still had plenty of fight left in him when i released him and it was about a 45 minute or so fight. Never experienced anythign like it before except in salt water....it actually got me on a carp kick there for a while.
