  1. depends on the situation. Generally i don't fight the fish any longer than i have to and don't use gear to light for the job.....how's that for a vague answer lol
  2. I would want to go visit just to eat his wife's food.....she sounds like an amazing cook
  3. 20+lb (estimated) carp on 4lb leader on my fly rod....was fishing for panfish and say him tailing and i couldn't resist tossing to him.
  4. I remember my mom cooking liver for my dad as a kid and he tried to make us eat it...the smell alone made me gag and i ate cereal for dinner that night....
  5. I haven't had to many things that were that terrible but if i was forced to pick it would be a wheatgrass energy shot thing. My buddy raved about them and how they are instant energy....tasted like what i would imagine licking my front yard would taste like after i cut the grass.
  6. leftover spare ribs & baked beans from yesterday...all the brisket was consumed already
  7. One thing i will say is that if you have a taller vehicle i would highly recommend getting an aftermarket rack and not using the factory ones. The factory ones will hold but when you are lifting higher over your head i personally feel more secure dropping it down on a sturdier rack than what comes on most factory set ups. I tried the bath mat thing and it seemed to be more hassle than it was worth but i know many swear by it...besides, the bath mat deal won't work on my Jeep now anyways.
  8. well my thought is yeah they probably aren't what they say but it was a big fish to them so that is what matters. Kind of like the what weight would you have a replica/mount made thread earlier. Some said 6lb and others said double digits. A fish to brag about is different for everyone and i don't really care if i think a bass is no way larger than 2lb and they say it is 6 because i have seen pics of 6lb fish that were weighed to validate that if i judged by the pic i would say were no more than 2-3lbs tops....
  9. I have personally loaded a 14' tarpon, 12' commander and a few other boats myself and it really isn't that bad. It is all about finding the balance point of the boat which in some cases isn't where the handles are located as was the case with my coosa. There are also other methods using a bath rug to only have to lift half the boat at once and slide it on to the rack. Unless your vehicle is tall, loading pretty much any one man boat is doable with practice. I now have a wrangler with a rack which is a little harder to do as it is taller than i am but it is still manageable. Now if i get a heavier pedal drive boat like i want, i will also most likely be getting a trailer to make things even easier.
  10. I am happy and i do not like my job but i am doing something about it so even though i am burnign the candle at both ends and the end of this craziness is not quite in my sights yet, i am still good. I get to see my fiancee and my 3 1/2 year old's smiling face every day
  11. how did i know this would be your response.....
  12. Brisket. You can have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and in many different preparations... There is brisket in the potatoes
  13. Must be some big sharks.....
  14. Or something comparable at least...i imagine they have it patented.
  15. well done and good luck in your new job!!
  16. Kill switch doesn't seem to be the reason for the tragedy and actually in this case probably helped them out as it was noticed that a boat was driving in circles with nobody on board. Maybe i am callous but while i feel sorry for the family involved this is an easily preventable mishap that you could talk about later on if you take the precautions. The same family that is upset should have been the primary consideration for wearing a PFD. I know many people take them off while fishing but while running there really is no excuse in my mind. Hopefully this tragedy helps to educate some people and proven the same thing from happening in the future.
  17. Just put it straight on the crossbars and don't worry about anything up there. I did it that way for years on my subaru factory racks with no issues. And any rack that is worth having on top of your vehicle and is strong enough to hold your yak probably will not be easy to remove. Taking off racks is easier than it used to be but it still is by no means easy and is not something i would want to do after each trip. What vehicle do you have anyways? Unless you have some huge off road tires 20" rims are not a factor in overall ride height. Not to mention the "standard" garage door is 7' tall and most vehicles are only around 6' tall. My wrangler with 33" tires and a rack is still well under 7' tall. If your clearance is close though be prepared because you will have a close call or two with the garage door clearance because you forgot it was up there.
  18. Everyone talks about duct tape and how awesome it is and you can fix everything blah blah blah....if i need something fixed i am going electrical tape. It is easier to handle, doesn't get all messed up over time, they use it for holding alligator mouth's shut on TV and it is the perfect size to use in a pitch for stitches.... Bottom line is electrical tape is way better and should be given more consideration when tape is being discussed....
  19. It really needs to warm up because this is a ridiculous thread.
  20. I am just curious why you would be searching for chubbies and shorts......
  21. It depnds really. Do you have a finder now that you are looking to upgrade? Are you willing to learn how to use it and actually benefit from using it? DO you fish now without one and do ok? I have a gopro and i love it. I don't use it all the time but the videos i got while on the boogie board with my 3 1/2 year old son make it worth it...the fishing videos are pretty cool too.
  22. Duct seal works but i like temp readings and i believe DI won't shoot through the hull as accurately but i could be wrong there, so i rig mine on the outside of the yak. There are tons of good proucts out there for this nowadays.
  23. I would say at $15 a year that is a pretty good investment not to mention anything Abel makes is just plain pretty...
  24. What year Jeep? I had a 95 with a wilderness systems expedition rack with the basket and now i have a 2012 wrangler unlimited that i have the wilderness sytems adventure rack. Both are great racks and can easily hold the kayaks. They are a little pricey but i had the one on my 95 for over 10 years without an issue and sold it before i sold the jeep for about 2/3 what i paid for it. It can be a pain to get a kayak up there at times but it is definitely manageable. I am going to get a trailer eventually though...hopefully this summer.
  25. I prefer a magnifying glass like we used to use as kids to fry ants....kind of sucks on cloudy days though
