  1. Seems counterintuive to sand down scratches and taking material away purely for aesthetic reasons on a part of the boat that you never see. makes zero sense
  2. Twisty line after a failure is the knot coming undone 100% of the time. Pickerel will make clean cuts through the line. I use palomar for pretty much everything and rarely have knot issues.
  3. That is the perfect description of it and the warmer it got the more it tasted like cough syrup to me.
  4. Tried some of the hard mountain dew as I am a mountain dew guy.....not bad but not sure why they went with fake sugar as that taste overwhelms everything else.
  5. I think species matters too. There is a lake I frequent specifically in the winter and it has a large spotted bass population along with blueback herring. I have had more than one day out there with water temps in the mid to high 40s and sunny where they were chasing the herring and busting the surface. I didn't have any topwaters but if i moved my jerkbait enough to keep it floating they would crush it. Pretty memorable to have days of 5+ fish in the winter on topwater.
  6. my dad was an electrician and we lived right across the river in PA. We were doing a job in camden and my dad was like if you go to the truck lock the door while you are in it looking for parts or whatever. One of the construction crews came in and had your normal big ass job box that probably weighed close to a ton and they locked up all their ladders and brake on top. We told them yeah you don't want to leave that here overnight. They must not have been from around the area becasue they balked and said no way anyone is taking this. We said ok. Next morning all that was left was the indentations in the ground from the weight of the box lol Camden has come around though in the past 10-15 years. not what i would call a safe place but not anything close to what it was
  7. i carry 5 BC and one spinning frog crank jig chatter bait small swimbait spinning is weightless soft plastics fly rods it is usually 9' 8wt floating line 9' 10wt floating line 9' 7wt floating line 9' 8wt sink tip going after smallies i will take out the 10 and usually add another 7wt
  8. I am semi brand loyal but it is about consistency for me. I like havign rods that are the same for the most part so I know when i switch it isn't some drastic change. For fly rods I am pretty brand loyal to Sage and recently TFO. Baits, I don't care as long as they catch fish. Flies, I tie my own so I am super brand loyal to those
  9. I have side imaging and i do that just to the side. A lot of times I will go near the shore and turn on just the one side that is away from the bank and it shows me what I need to know. I then cursor over to it and drop a waypoint and use the casting rings on my humminbird so I know when i am in range and can start casting. Live scan would be much more efficient but no way with me primarily river fishing that I could justify that type of purchase.
  10. I have never worried about scratches on any of my kayaks and I do a lot of river fishing which is pretty hard on a kayak. My last kayak, that was 7 years old and warrantied for a hull crack, wore through a replaceable skid plate. I never drag it on concrete though but I also don't baby it. deep scratches are a simple fix of heating up a putty knife and smoothing over the areas.
  11. Thanks for stopping by, always good to see people who haven't come by and that they are on the right path.
  12. plastics are cheap and they are getting bit so i would stick with what you are using.
  13. Back when i was a kid and got gflases i remember the eye doctor telling me to never wipe a dry lens and always rinse them first to get that microscopic dirt off and it has stuck with me ever since. I don't put mine in a hard case but they have yet to be scratched. Modern good quality sunglasses seem to be pretty scratch resistant.
  14. I did construction pretty much every summer as a teenager and through my first couple years of college. My boss while on a roof was pulling the roofing gun up and hit the nose and it ended up shooting a roofing nail right through his big toe knuckle. He pulled it out and called it a day since it was like 3:30 already. next day he shows up and he cut his shoe so the swollen toe would have room and he could keep working. My dad was an electrician and used to go out on service calls and this was no different. He gets a call, usually something stupid but service calls are good money. This was an outdoor light that was out. He gets on his fiberglass extension ladder reaches up to unscrew and touches the metal box. Apparently it was wired wrong and it caused a ground and he was stuck up there until the electricity contracted his muscles enough it broke the bulb. he ended up fisxing the wiring issues and replacing the bulb. I wasn't there but when he came home i could tell something was up and he showed me his hand which had cuts from the busted bulb.
  15. Taco Tuesday in our house so it will be your standard beef tacos, guac, rice and beans. I do have some leftover steak from the other night i may make into steak soft tacos though as well.
  16. my kids are broccoli fiends and if they have an option they want it raw, I don't get it.
  17. I do 99% of the cooking in our house. ironically enough my 6 year old daughter loves Mac and cheese and it is the homemade stovetop variety. I never measure anything but it is always good. Tonight the wife was cooking cause i had to work later than normal and she was worried about making too much cheese sauce. Daughter eats it and says who made this, it needs more pepper jack and the sauce is too thick ?
  18. using a lightly weighted EWG does the trick for me then I can drop it in pockets as I go over them
  19. And if you want to really mess things up, throw the speed craw the same way...they are the same tail section with a different body
  20. They are a good option when a faster retrieve is needed. I also like the YUM frog as it can have solid action at a slower pace. One advantage of the ZOOM products is they always have a lot of colors available which can be a confidence boost for many.
  21. I would definitely go with learning to walk the dog in a small area and patience. Fish need time to find topwater and we all want to fish fast but you will find many times the longer it sit, the more violent the hit. remember bass are not that bright and they have no hands to check things out so when their curiosity is at its highest the only thing it can do is try and eat it
  22. While I agree they can be anywhere I also contend that there is always a reason they are where they are given conditions. Problem is the conditions on rivers change so much and can be drastic that putting that puzzle together is always tricky. I pick apart the best areas or at least the areas I think are the best based on my experience. Finesse fishing isn't made to cover water so that would drive me crazy but on the flip side it can allow you to cover and learn a specific stretch of river very well. My last trip out was on a river I never fished before and I was told the fish were holding on the edges of grass adjacent to clean water aka no grass. I did catch a couple that way but it wasn't enough for me. I then started fishing the deeper runs really slow and started picking up more action and better fish. I tried this same pattern other places and sure enough, it held for the majority of the day. If i went out the next day I would have definitely tried the deeper runs behind major current breaks again for sure and if that wasn't producing i would move on to something else. I think the key in river fishing is to never get stuck on one particular pattern until you figure it out for the day.
  23. Brilliant..now get the price under 6 figures by 50k or so and i may consider getting one
  24. It is all about priorities and making time for what you want. Unless you are working 16 hours a day and sleeping 8 you have time to do what you want to do. Now is it going to look exactly like you want all the time, probably not but the time is there. I was a teacher, have a wife and two kids who are active in after school stuff and was taking post graduate classes and I still found time to get out and fish.
  25. In fisherman has a 3 step model that I find to be pretty helpful. First is know the intended fish species and their tendencies. Second is location based on #1 Third is presentation based on # 1 & 2 Color isn't even mentioned until you handle the other three. For me i don't change colors unless I am getting some type of action but the fish seem non-committal.
