  1. I doubt the braid is breaking because of UV exposure. My hunch is there was something on your tungsten that was nicking it or an eye doing the same thing. I have had braid on rods I don't use often for longer than 5-6 years with no issues.
  2. I am no boat mechanic but if it was fine before the work was done and it isn't now I think we know the issue. My dad had a boat with a 40HP that could get on plane with 3 people so there is something pretty wrong going on here I would think.
  3. My ATAK is one of the most stable kayaks I have been in. I routinely drift down river while standing and fly fishing and even lean down to pop the motor on to straighten me out or use the paddle with zero issues.
  4. out of all the kayaks I have owned and sold, the commander 120 is one I wish I kept
  5. Creature comforts sell on those types of boats....I am still a kayak guy but I have a motor on it this year and I should have done it a few years ago. Now when I do get a boat I already know what is near the top of my list......https://www.hogislandboatworks.com/SW-16-Skiff-Specifications 60/40 jet motor, high powered TM and casting/poling platform and I will be set of the shallow rivers.
  6. When you actually use them as designed, like you mentioned just reel in and pull, the hookup ration is very good. I know whenever I use them I miss a few fish because I am used to my normal hooks but when I do what your supposed to, they hook up very well and a rate no different than a standard hook.
  7. If you need an alarm clock that bad then you aren't getting enough sleep in the first place. I never use an alarm clock, even on those odd time situations I still can get myself up on time.
  8. I am always on time which usually means 10-15 early. To me when plans are made and someone is late they are basically saying they don't care about you and your time and their time is worth more than yours.
  9. Top one is probably 3-4" and the bottom on is a little longer. where I learned to fly fish is a trophy stream that is basically stocked brown fingerlings that get pretty large. It is a tough place to fish and gets a ton of pressure but me being a new fisherman didn't know any better so I was thinking well hell, there are big brown in here so I am gonna throw the same stuff I do for smallies. I always did well out there and when fielding questions at the fly shop I worked at when people would ask about the stream and what they were biting on etc...I would always say well XYZ is hatching but if you want the big fish gotta throw streamers and bigger the better. Many did not like the response......there are some amazing hatches out there that are pretty fun but I have only caught or seen a handful of the larger 20+" fish feeding on the hatched insect.
  10. This is the perfect example of being passive aggressive.
  11. yup as long as there isn't grass, especially on rivers for smallies.
  12. Mount some ski racks on your trailer and put your rods there. I have been doing it that way for years with no issues. Also as far as bunks go, 4" PVC works very well for holding kayaks on a trailer.
  13. I had the pleasure of being guided by Bob Clouser of fly fishing fame and that dude was amazing. He was helping my dad fix his cast and if I made more than about 5 casts without a fish, I was probably 8-9, he would grab the rod get a fish on and hand it back to me. He also was super helpful sharing info.
  14. Clips for cranks, tie direct for everything else.
  15. Remember, bass don't have hands and have a brain the size of a peanut. They have to try and eat something to see if it is edible or if they even can eat it. I have caught countless small bass on baits almost the size of the bass itself.
  16. Uggh...kayaks are some of the worst for sure and I am a kayak angler too but not a ramp clogger for sure.
  17. I have done well on river smallies on frog flies for sure.
  18. It isn't as ineffective as not even knowing they are there in the first place. I mark likely fish holding spots then use my casting circles feature on my hummingbird to give me an idea of how far away I am from the targeted area. I don't bother with marking moving fish but if I see a bait ball I will no doubt throw something there way. I am also 99% sure that if you turn your sidescan sonar 90 degrees it won't work like you think it will.
  19. I have primarily fished the fly rod for the last few years but every once in a while I have to go out with just my jig rod just to feel that hit again....other than the toilet bowl flush on a big bass topwater hit, it is the top thing for me.
  20. This is one area where I feel me being in a kayak helps tremendously. When I first started fly fishing and it was for trout, the guy who taught me a ton basically said his goal was to dissect every area in a way that every fish saw his fly at least once and if at all possible, from multiple angles. I apply this same mindset to bass fishing and being in a kayak I am not looking to waste time paddling more than fishing. great advice man.
  21. Topwater can be killer on bluebird sky days but choosing locations are important as shade, cooler water etc.. can come in to play.
  22. I don't feel bad but I also don't fish with other people 99% of the time.
  23. OnlyFans pays me to stop sending my content.
  24. I haven't read it yet but knowing the scientific reasons for behaviors can absolutely help in catching. A lot of those old school guys may not be scientists and may not know why things work but they figured it out and that is the same thing really just the reasons and way to acquire the data is different. see, now i have to read it lol good thing i have summers off
  25. wow...old thread resurrected. Find the owner and ask.....most counties have a GIS system where you can locate owners of a property and it is always a good starting point for finding out who to ask for access.
