Breathable wader question
you want to leave room for layers underneath. Breathable waders offer no insulation and anything restrictive will do two things. First it will limit the layers you can wear comfortably which hinders mobility and second, tight fitting anything in the cold can restrict blood flow which will make you colder. Years of wading in icy trout streams have taught me to keep those feet and legs warm. Once your feet get cold you are done. Those shake and warm packs work pretty well on those frigid days.

BlueSky Boatworks 360 Angler - Yak or boat?
I have had the competition bug in my ear for a while now but when i reached out to the head of the VA series, KBF affiliated i believe, I was less than enthralled with the responses and email exchanges. For now, I'll just stick with heading out by myself or a friend or two and trying to catch more and bigger than they do

BlueSky Boatworks 360 Angler - Yak or boat?
What i said was tongue in cheek, sarcasm doesn't show well on a forum, because in a debate on the KBF facebook page i was told by the heads of that circuit that motors were a huge reason for innovation. I found it comical myself. To me all motors have done is made it less important to have a good paddling boat and create an uneven playing field in said tournaments, but that is for another thread really lol

BlueSky Boatworks 360 Angler - Yak or boat?
Doubt it will ever happen because motors are the reason for innovations in the kayak industry, paraphrasing here. Oh and the motor manufacturer is the biggest sponsor.

Lipless cranks do we really need anything else?
i throw them relatively often but don't do well with them for some reason. I'll switch to another type of bait and do better. So for me, yeah i need other baits lol

Chickahominy River Tournament
Sounds like a good day to me and a good streak you need to keep going.

Megabass Pop X
I love the pop max and another post on here recommended the river to sea bubble walker and i will say it is very similar and about half the cost. I do like the Pop x too though when a smaller popper is what they are keying in on.

The Death of the small tackle shop
Problem with going online as a small business is it is tough to do it effectively. I used to work at an outdoor store that did very well and their online presence was minimal. They catered to a specific group of people that buying online didn't work as well for nor did he want to compete with the big boys. We would lose some business to people using us to try on stuff and buy online but it is what it is. We treated them all well and they would come back for the smaller ticket items which surprisingly enough were big money makers. The biggest money makers both in profit margin and total dollars was socks and closely followed by nalgene water bottles. He did carry pretty much anything top of the line you would want though and we would order anything for anyone with no deposit or shipping fee. Customer service was where it's at and in the mom & pop tackle shop, the same rule applies. Walmart won't go anywhere anytime soon but they are also starting to embrace the online game but my 2 experiences with them and their ship to store option were miserable at best.

NBA season starts tonight
NBA kicks off tonight and while there is a lot of hype around my Sixers, I am not bought in just yet. They are being outplayed and outcoached by Boston...again. We have a ways to go before we are contenders. Oh well, at least i have something else to watch during the week now.

The Death of the small tackle shop
Nature of the beast. Those companies refused to embrace the online digital age and marketing and paid the price much like blockbuster. Gotta continue to grow and evolve or you will die. The mom & pop tackle shops are a little different though as they can provide knowledge as well as merchandise and some of that merchandise has to be purchased in person.

The Death of the small tackle shop
They carry Megabass jerk baits at my local bass pro not sure about cabelas. As far as shopping mom & pop shops i have a good one near me that i frequent when i need something. Their prices are close enough and they are about 3 miles from my house rather than 15 to bass pro. They have the vast majority of the things i want and offer to order anything else for me. I do go to bass pro when i accumulate enough rewards or get a gift card.

What did you learn on the water this week?
It was ridiculously windy out there for me so i stayed in the protected creeks as much as i could. I am looking forward to catching the schooling spots at the lake i was at yesterday once the water drops about another 10 degrees or so.
-
What did you learn on the water this week?
I learned that even though baitfish are schooling it doesn't mean the fish are keying in on them with the water temps still in the mid 70's.

Going back to budget?
I guess it all depends on your idea of high end and budget. For me it is about balance and weight and sensitivity depending on the technique. I also fish from a kayak and i can say that weight difference matters. You don't think a few ounces here and there add up but they absolutely do. I am by no means a weight freak but i try and keep things light as possible without going crazy with it all. I stick with rods in the 100-150 range and have been pretty happy.

Buckle Up, Folks. We have a major hurricane heading towards Virginia
i went out to diascund and it was as high as i have ever seen it. I am not sure if there was a tourney there or not but there were a lot of boats. I know i only caught a couple small ones that were chasing baitfish way back up one of the creek arms and lost a monster bowfin right at the kayak.

Always wear your PFD!
Bowline knots aren't quick release by any means and i do know the simple horse hitch quick release knot as well. Problem in a kayak is many people, including myself use zig zag cleats to stop the anchor line. If i were to get in trouble cutting the line is the only option. Could i put in another type of anchor point to tie the line to, sure but I prefer not to have more things protruding from the kayak than i have to should i have some sort of rescue situation where lines can get tangled when flipped. They absolutely can get squirrely fast but usually it is because you are not anchoring directly in the center of the bow or not enough line is out. No matter what really, anchoring with a kayak in or near current can be a dicey proposition.

Buckle Up, Folks. We have a major hurricane heading towards Virginia
No damage to my house or the neighborhood other than some fallen branches. It was a crazy storm though and it blew in fast and stayed pretty strong while it lasted. All the schools are closed today too because i think a lot lost power, we were lucky it only flickered a few times and thats about it. Beautiful day out there now though, blue skies and temps more what it should be in mid october. Hopefully i can get out fishing tomorrow or sunday but i have a feeling the fishing is gonna be tough.

Always wear your PFD!
And one that is sharp and not just sitting there to look nice. I only cut my anchor line once and it was more of a precaution because it was hung but i didn't feel comfortable at the time. I was happy to have the sharp knife at my side.
-
Always wear your PFD!
you don't go up there to tie anything. You run your anchor line from your seat area up the side and then i have a clip at the front that my anchor goes through to keep it right off the bow. In a kayak it doesn't take it being off center much, or not enough line out to get squirrels really fast. I will also use a drag chain off the back set up the same way but that one if i am drifting through something that looks like it might get hung up I am pulling it up quick. I always have a fixed blade knife handy as well.
-
Always wear your PFD!
I haven't seen a kayaker do it any other way. The front of the kayak is generally higher up in the water so it takes more to go over the top. It is also easier to set up to fish somewhere since your seat is generally speaking only able to face to the front of the boat. I only anchor directly off the front of my kayak. Sounds like this guy was anchoring in some pretty gnarly current and that deep you'd need a whole lot of anchor line out which i am also guessing wasn't the case. I don't anchor in heavy current myself, not worth the risk to me. Glad this dude made it out ok.

Inner city fishing with Ike
He should do one in richmond VA too. There is a ton of in the city fishing here, i just don't do it because of all the people and well, class III-V rapids depending on water levels

Live Bait Setup?
Sam nailed it but i will say i prefer sliding style bobbers and using bobber stops because you an adjust the depth pretty easily and you don't put a kink in the line. I also use circle hooks but make sure they are big enough so you can get a solid hookset.
