  1. I have found that no matter what the water temperature, there will be fish shallow but you have to cover water to find them. I will also agree that the fish like to be able to move vertically through the water column without much effort so with that being said, I always look for channel swings that neighbor flats or other shallow areas that may warm up on sunny days. If you find some rock on those areas, even better because they seem to congregate there too. I see you are in central va as am I, unfortunately I haven;'t been able to get out anytime here lately but hopefully over Christmas break I can get the kayak in the water a few days.
  2. probably some dude who read it on another forum where a guy got his warranty rejected for slamming a rod in his car door...
  3. I am not strictly a bank guy but i do fly fish and go out without my kayak on occasion. I prefer the sling style bags myself. I have an old Timbuk2 messenger bag that I used to use when I would ride my bike to work and it works great for fishing. It can hold quite a few boxes and gear. The other part i like is that when I am wading a stream, I don't have to take it off to access my gear as i can swing it around to the front and get to everything i need. It also rides high on my back so wading in waist deep water isn't an issue. I am much more of a minimalist when i go out with the intent of walking. One rod and 2-3 boxes is about it and a lot of times, even less epnding on the area i am targeting that particular day.
  4. Apparently it is a record for a 24 hour period or something in this area since they started keeping track of those things. I know at my house we easily got over 12"
  5. Any more trips to southern locations to fish planned? We got a snowstorm here in central virginia that you would call a dusting but it has effectively shut down the city for a few days. just go run those dogs and clean your gear and keep working out and April will be here before you know it...
  6. congrats. And remember this as well...every single person commenting knows exactly what the brand logo is, even if it is "ugly" to them.
  7. Cowboys aren't a contender. You needed career games from basically everyone on offense to beat a depleted secondary (practice squad guys starting) on the Eagles by a fluke play in OT. Dallas defense is legit and fast but Dak is a limiting factor. Don't let those stats today fool you on that one...
  8. I am gonna throw some ribs and pork butt on the smoker on saturday i think so if we get snowed in i can eat good for a few days
  9. There is a guy at a lake I fish that is electric only with one public launch get from the laugh to the far reaches you are looking at 3-4 miles an he has two torqueedos on a pretty large semi v style boat and he throws a wake with that thing. It is pretty crazy to see really given al the other boats out there are kayaks like mine or trolling motor deals.
  10. good looking fish. Last year i did really well with the rapala ripstop. I need to go pick up some of the longer versions for this year
  11. sounds good to me....bring it on. I know here in Mechancisville it is flurrying tonight
  12. you aren't going to find a brand new motor for a jeep for cheaper than a 15HP 4 stroke motor.
  13. Within an hour or so of Richmond there are a ton of places to fish. Sam already mentioned some but then there is Disacund reservoir, Little week reservoir, al the various creeks around plus of course Sandy and Briery creek which is a little further away but well worth the drive.
  14. i do it all the time. It is especially good for dead sticking for smallies in rivers.
  15. Remember that lifetime warranty isn't always your life it is the reasonable lifetime of the product. I know this is semantics but as has already been mentioned, lifetime warranty isn't lifetime replacement no matter what happens. Zippers don't break on a bag because of a manufacturers defect years later but unfortunately people seem to believe that to be the case. I don't have an issue with changing this to a more realistic warranty. I have a shimano curado rod i bought less than a year ago and a guide broke off three from the top. Sure it is under warranty but i know it isn't a warranty issue at this point in its life. I will find a local place to replace the guide for a few bucks and call it good. If you have a busted zipper you can probably get it fixed for the price of gas driving to Cabelas.
  16. that seems like a lot of extra work when you can just mark it instead of buying an additional piece of equipment and then have to use it on top of all that.
  17. I have been using those since i was a kid so 30+ years. I don't throw them much anymore but my son does and catches fish for sure.
  18. That is crazy. I have seen it before, not personally, but never with bass so similar in size. Sounds like a good day for sure.
  19. If it was a 50lb channel cat you are in world record territory too. Nice fish either way
  20. I guess the moving of the extra point further back really did change it from being an automatic point to making people wonder if they will make it or not. I am pretty sure they are missing at a 5% clip since it was moved back a few years ago when before, it was less than 1%
  21. Eagles are trash and the Saints are for real. They are going to be real tough to beat in their stadium on he way to the super bowl
  22. Doesn't that web address say Sam Rayburn on it? That is a pretty big pond...
  23. if i am using braid i put a few wraps of mono or whatever i have laying around on there. For all other line types i don't use backing at all.
  24. I'd bet @Sam hasn't been in a kayak I will say that these days most modern fishing kayaks you will fall out before you flip them though,
