  1. Good advice but i'll say no to the paddle leash or tying anything down for that matter to be honest. All leashes do is make something else to get tangled on should you flip which can create a safety hazard. If you do decide to tie off your items then you need to have a fixed blade, sharp knife on your PFD so you can cut away anything should the need arise.
  2. Don't use a stake out pole in a scupper hole. They are notoriously weak spots in a boat, especially low end ones, and they will crack. same goes for scupper carts with the exception being hobies which are designed to handle the added stress of a scupper cart. Not to mention who wants a pole sticking up in the middle of their boat while trying to fish.
  3. Not true at all for my first gen helix 5SI unit. You just have to adjust the chart speed to your speed and you are fine. I have mine generally set around 2 or 3 and i does great images.
  4. Red and green lights are only for boats under power though from what i understand as it indicates a boat that can move out of the way of harm so they don't recommend them for kayaks or human powered vessels.
  5. I wouldn't tow it, no need really and it will just be a pain and probably smack into the kayak when you slow down or turn. I was saying find a crate that fits in that recessed area where it was removed. I'll see if i can take a pic of my set up tomorrow to show you what i mean. Here is a pic that you can kind of see what i mean if you look in the back of the orange boat where the crate is located. Scupper plugs are useful in your bait (probably) because the seat is on the bottom deck and not raised up so it should help you from getting a wet butt but you won't know till you sit in it and see if water is coming up through the scuppers. In my boat i leave all of them out except the front hatch area. Not sure if you know but they are designed for water to drain out when water gets in the boat. Very useful on river trips or if you take on a wave over the bow of the boat. Anchor weight varies on the situation. I have used 5lb dumbbells and it worked fine just don't anchor in current yet until you are used to the boat and have the proper anchor set up for current. I don't use anchors often but i do use a stake out pole pretty much every trip out. As far as weight goes you won't know until you take it out. Also keep in mind that the weight limit is for maximum performance so it won't sink but it may sit lower in the water than you would like. Here is my current boat, not the best picture but it gives you an idea.
  6. he decided not to use it so he wouldn't be tempted to use it offshore which was not his strength of fishing. He also ran an aluminum boat to maximize his shallow water fishing too. Slightly different situation to me.
  7. I hadn't heard of Falcon boats before this post and after checking them out, they look pretty nice. Also, maybe you do things differently in GA but here in VA you pay taxes on vehicles, trailers or whatever when you get them registered and titled here in VA no matter where they are bought.
  8. Here in VA each lake is different and if it doesn't expressly say closes an hour after sunset or whatever the assumption is the lake is open. There are only a few around me that allow night fishing unfortunately so i am limited but it is nee since the lake is electric only as well which makes things safer.
  9. Welcome to the kayak fishing world. As far as rod holders go i wouldn't even mount that one in the middle yet. Wait to see if you want one there before wasting your money. I personally hate rod holders in the middle in front of me. Is that hatch in the back open to the inside of the boat or is it just a cover for a molded in storage tank well? If it is the latter i would get a crate to store your gear in rather than in the side pieces in front of you. Anchoring...get an anchor trolley and you will then be able to adjust the anchor to the wind or current so you can face the right direction. 10' kayak is kind of short but it will get you off the bank. I wouldn't take it anywhere where you might encounter rougher weather and to paddle it longer distance might be ashore but i don't know specifically as i haven't paddled that specific boat. Any more questions feel free to ask as there are quite a few kayak anglers on here that can help out
  10. Right now my favorite is my stradic CI4 and a 6'10" MXF shimano curado.
  11. Nice fish!! I need private ponds like that to fish lol
  12. Braid is known to have little shock resistance which is why it snaps. Combine that with some sort of knick or tight spot and little to no stretch and something has to give when that much force is applied and stopped abruptly. I haven't had it happen on spinning gear but i have once on bait casting when i was trying to really bomb out a crank bait and i bumped the handle and it stopped the spool dead. I just watched as my crank bait sailed off into the distance lol

yeah i have never worried about tearing up baits because that generally means i am catching fish.

i'll also add that when rigging weedless how far you insert the hook before turning it will affect action. the further down you rig the more the bait will want to rise up with each twitch. Don't be afraid to throw them in nasty cover too. I have caught countless citation sized LM in thick lilly pads with a fluke. They truly are a bait you can throw at any time in any condition if you change up your retrieve and rigging. I throw mine on a M XF 6'10" spinning rod with 30lb braid tied direct. I don't like them on bait casters myself or with MH but it is all about your preference. I always have a fluke tied on and have caught fish in every month of the year and water temps down to the mid 30's
  15. I'll agree with Sam on this one about Va. We have had so much rain that my tomato plants are busting from the influx of moisture. I haven't fished the James at all and even the smaller flows that clear out relatively quickly are high and muddy. Lakes are also high and muddy which has water temps higher than i have ever seen. I was on a smaller 75 acre or so "lake" that isn't real deep, probably 6-7' on average and the lilly pads were all dying and the water was super dark and temps were in the 93 degree range. I ended up catching a few but it was tough going. And don't get me started on cutting the grass every dry day we get pretty much...
  16. I used 8lb in my sons zebco 303 or whatever and it worked ok but when i change it i am gonna go with 6 because i think it will be more manageable.
  17. totally your preference. I personally liked my kayaks off to one side when i car topped them, on factory racks especially, because they didn't seem to flex the rack as much as if they were in the middle.
  18. I didn't see anything on FL that was say newer than 2004 that says to kill them there. And actually on the non native species section it tells you how to catch them and that there is no bag limit or size restriction. TX doesn't even have Snakehead according to your link so of course they don't want you to release them in the wild. There is no way they can make a law that says to kill anything....can't happen. recommend it sure, advise to do it sure but to have a law that says if you catch this or that you must kill it just isn't there. I'll stop here.....
  19. Being a kayaker myself i'd rather see a guy stay on plane near me because they inevitably drop off too close and create more of a wake that way. I haven't had any issues with wakes though as i am pretty comfortable in my kayak and being a SOT any water on top is just going to drain out anyways.
  20. i think you would have to find a boat in the parameters you set then talk to the manufacturer. You also may be able to look at some of the customer river jet boat builders as they seem to be able to make pretty much anything but as always, at a price.
  21. They have a rigid branded one i am thinking of getting myself. I think it would fit i note extended tank well area of my ATAK 140 perfectly but i need to measure to make sure. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-22-in-Pro-Box-Black-226036/206291778
  22. Reading al this makes me thing i might go out night fishing tomorrow night now if the rain holds out I just wish there were more places around here that allowed it. Most of the electric only lakes are one hour after sunset type of deals. I am wanting to do a river float but that is hard to get someone to do with me.
  23. nope, completely wrong.
  24. My crate usually has about 6-7 plano boxes of various sizes, a bottle of gatorade or 2 and some adult beverages as well. I personally hate having rod holders on my crate. And I am in a kayak as well.
  25. fish the sound and surf instead. you won't be disappointed.
