What is a good brand of gloves to fish with? I tried some neoprene gloves from walmart and cut the finger tips off, but they aren't cutting it.
  2. I agree. I have an XPS Nitro in Splatterback, shallow diver, and it absolutely kills. I have gotten some XPS lures that stunk too.
  3. Hi, welcome aboard. There are three kinds of frogs - 1 Soft plastic types made out of the same materials as trick worms or finesse worms, some examples Zoom Horny Toad or Gambler's Cane Toad - They are fished on the surface with a lot of movement and commotion like a buzzbait. They also work subsurface... 2 Buoyant Hollow bodied Frogs, made of a more vinyl-like material that float like Spro Bronze Eye Frogs (look up any posts by Snapper G...) and Scum Frogs - These float and can be twitched or walked. 3 Frog Crankbaits - Rebel Wee Frog, Megabass Type-X These are cranks and work twitched, steady retrieved, or any combo of the two. All three work very well, all three are different techniques.
  4. We used to call them gill bugs. They work as bait...
  5. I used to fish the Jersey Shore a lot, and remember catching a ton of those ugly, stinky things. They smell like rotten meat. We used to call them Oyster Crackers. Tried to use them for crab bait and got nothing. You know it's bad if a crab won't eat it...
  6. I see this as a good ruling on the side of property rights. Usually the state and federal govt wants to gobble up the land and use many questionable EPA Navigable Waterways laws to undermine property rights. In this case the land grabbers got it right. I wonder why the ditch is no blocked off in some way to prevent people from going up it. Rocks, poles, or a fence...
  7. I've had no problems with the Improved Clinch Knot. I've been fishing it for 23 years, and the only lures I lost were ones where I knew the line was nicked up and fished it without re-tying... Salt water or fresh, I never use another knot.
  8. I have a vixen too, it's loudest walking bait I have. It walks very easily, has some cool colors. As far as I can tell, you'll do just as well on a Heddon Spook or Cultiva Tango Dancer, and save money in the process...
  9. No Bigfoot or Chupacabra?
  10. Charlies Worms, out of FL, scents their baits with a strawberry scent. I only find them in FL, and stock up when I'm down there. I get straight worms and some 8 inch traditional worms. They work as good as anything Zoom puts out. The scents probably don't do anything for the fish, but they smell a heck of a lot better than powerbait, gulp, or chompers.
  11. I have a bill dance knocker with chains on it. It's a lead bass with a tennessee cap, and comes with it's own reel. I also tried one my grandfather had, just a lead plug with chains coming out of it like a squid. I can't seem get either down the line to where the lure is hung up. I have tried better angles, and even climbing a tree to get my rod higher so the knocker will go all the way down, but with no luck. The bill dance thing cost $15 bucks or close to that. I've saved a grand total of one bandit lure with it.
  12. Fishing from shore, a plugknocker is almost useless, I have not saved enough on lures to pay for the knocker.... I swim for lures a lot... A good pair of waders helps in the cold.
  13. The bait monkey thanks you.
  14. I am voting for Patience over confidence... I am not confident in a lot of baits, but took the time to practice with each one. I didn't gain any confidence until I had patience. Further, I find that when I am impatient, even confidence baits fail me... I fish a lot with my kids, and they get bored easily.
  15. I watch Headline News, CNN and Fox, having to alternate at work each day btwn the two. Both lean opposite ways, but not overly so (until after 8pm on both stations). I like them all, don't find too much to get politically inflamed over (some people say it's the Commie News Network for CNN, some people call Fox Faux News - but these folks are usually far left or right folks...). It is interesting that people comment so much on Fox leaning right, but nobody says boo about MSNBC leaning left. Overall, I would say that Fox has to win if I have to watch at home because they have hotter women anchors than any of the others... Megan Kelly at Fox is my favorite: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,133828,00.html
  16. Anyone watch? Season 4 premier was last week. Amazing show, Horror Themed, two brothers go around killing vampires and zombies and other dead evil things.
  17. Nip-I-Diddee?
  18. Little Sac Niangua?
  19. Lucky Craft RC1.5 x4 (four different colors) Sluggo Lake Fork Live Magic Shad Bagley Diving B2 In Black Shad and Black/Yellow Zoom Trick Worm Berkley Power Craw.
  20. Pink Floyd and Rush also come to mind.
  21. I just figured out that the little square boxes mean you can check more than one option...
  22. I'm getting older, and at 37 I hate to think that I am already entering into my curmudgeonly phase, but I guess I am because I get irritated so quickly by ordinary things... One thing that bugs me today is cliches.... I hate hearing certain phrases, there are a million of them, but I think the one that gets on my nerves the most is: That's why tt's called fishing, not catching... - Or something similar. Another few that bug me when I read them: Confidence bait Match the hatch Let the fish tell you what they want Senko Putting together a pattern Tight lines Big baits equals big fish... There are a million more. This isn't a slam on anyone in particular, just poking some fun at our sport. I'm guilty of using every one of these too, so I guess that makes me a hypocritical curmudgeon. Add your own bass cliches that bug you... ;D
  23. They usually go back... There have been a few fishing shows that have proven this. From personal experience, I know a 4 pound bass that has claimed a tiny cove on the pond I fish. I have moved it several hundred yards, and I've seen/caught her there many times.
