  1. With Beaver baits, I had, for whatever reasons, problems setting the hook on a EWG hook. I switched to a normal straight worm hook and do just fine now. 4/0 size... This is the kind of hook I mean: http://www.***.com/descpage-OOSWGW.html
  2. It looks like a Strike King to me too. The eyes on the norman are painted on, those look a little recessed.
  3. I think so too. I just got some on sale at Gander, they look exactly like that.
  4. I'm gonna get some of those to paint as well. Those megabass griffon knock offs look pretty good.
  5. My friend bought some one time to use and we got skunked on them. We switched to cranks and started catching them. Goldfish don't work, at least around where I live.
  6. Went testing out my new rod and reel combo and was throwing a redeye sexy chrome shad, and the rainbow trout that they just stocked in my lake were hammering it. I've never seen anything like that, Rainbows hitting a loud lipless crank... They wouldn't hit anything else, I tried spinners, tiny cranks, etc... Never knew trout fought so hard either... And they tasted great! Caught a couple of early bass too, but they weren't biting so good, there was still some ice on the lake...
  7. I just got a St Croix rod and didn't have it for a day before I closed the van trunk on the butt of the handle. The impact sliced into the cork and a small sliver is ready to break off now. I want to glue it rather than pull it off. It didn't hurt the rod other than cosmetically... I don't want to just pick any glue and have it ruin the cork by expanding or disintegrating it... Any glue recommendations?
  8. Maybe the Mods can just block the word Banjo. Especially in conjunction with the word minnow.
  9. Thanks RW! I'm going to Gander today.
  10. I'm trying to find a nice rod for my Daiwa Viento reel that I got for Christmas. I don't have more than $100 - $120 to spend, and I want a multipurpose rod for everything from worm fishing to cranks and spinnerbaits. The one I've had my eye on is s St Croix 7foot MH power with a fast tip. Is this the proper rod to go with do you think, or should I go shorter with a softer tip?
  11. I saw these at Gander Mt this weekend... Never heard of them before, so dunno if they work. I see that each individual worm comes in it's own blister pack like a pill. I hope it doesn't cause a lot of extra garbage being left on the banks...
  12. I also use a lot of Owner Straight shank hooks, and size them to my baits. I was having troubles with hookups on certain baits with EWGs (especailly the beaver style baits), and someone on here made the recommendation to switch. I did, and began landing more fish the next day. Owners are expensive though, and I picked up a bunch of Strike King Saber Points on close-out at walmart, and have been very pleased with them.
  13. They don't work so hot for me either. I've gotten a few fish on them, but the Sweet Beaver outfishes the brush hog for my at least 5 to 1...
  14. I like them too, but Parasite Weights are a lot better. They don't damage the worm.
  15. My pin did the same thing, but it isn't too noticeable. I superglued it in... I don't trust it being free like that. Some folks said to bend the pin, but I didn't trust that either... For $20 there should be a better solution for the pin, some sort of simple locking mechanism along the lines of a cotter pin.
  16. A very odd looking bait. I would try it out, I have had great success with Gambler baits.
  17. I have a Kinami Popper, and it is excellent. Very nicely made, catches fish for me better than the rapala popper.
  18. I love Taco Salad, Pearl/Chartreuse, and Bone.
  19. I have not had great luck on the Bug Eyed Bait yet. Haven't used it too much yet.
  20. Yeah, the small one. The big one was $50 at BPS, and they weren't moving... I will try bending it a bit. I already tried bending the eyes like the package suggests, but didn't notice it being any tighter...
  21. Picked one up at BPS this weekend. They were being grabbed up as quickly as the stockboy could pull them out of the box and put them on the peg. I was lucky enough to get one in shad color... At 20 bucks I was a bit disappointed at the paint job, but I was assured by another clerk there that these swam beautifully... I might try repainting it... Does anyone have any experience with this lure yet? The wire that holds the front and second link together is removable so you can add some tungsten bb weights. Does this weaken the lure? Has anyone had that wire slide out? It seems snug, but it can wear after some time...
  22. They're already tough to find. I used to just go to KMart and get them, but they've been discontinued there for a while... I would just try Ebay, there are a bunch on there.
  23. My category for it would be: Best left on the store shelf. It is a Bill Dance gimmick lure. Just about any normal crankbait will work better. If you're dying to try it out, melt half of a 7 inch powerbait worm onto the back treble of a bandit lure.
  24. I'm a huge fan of the Tango Dancer, beautiful finishes, the best hooks on the market, and they walk as easily as anything out there. I have a bunch of Rippin' minnows, and they are good, not super, but I do alright in the Shenandoah with them for smallmouth.
