  1. I better delete my original reply before getting slapped with an infraction .
  2. When I'm fishing cover I keep hopping a worm until its clear of the cover , then give it a couple more hops . I dont know where the bass are going to be . Lots of hits come close to the boat . I found some brush piles last week and picked them apart . There were areas that the brush was spread way out from what was visible . I caught 35 bass doing that with about ten over 15 inches .
  3. Its kind of hard to fish deeply in a brush pile fast .
  4. I'm wanting to make some too but dont have the right blades . The Weedwader I had sported a vinyl white and grey skirt .
  5. I fished a two day tournament years ago and the guy I was partnered with won the event using a chartreuse bait with chartreuse blades .I didnt have anything resembling it, still dont . He limited out both days and I just caught a couple . The only colored bladed bait I ever had luck with was a Fleck Weedwader with white Indianas .
  6. I remember reading about him . He liked new silver shiny Devil Horses . Didnt like them once they got roughed up .
  7. Thats been a pattern this year for me . The top water bite dies early , the deep bass are biting then in the afternoon the topwater picks up again .
  8. When I was first starting to get into bass fishing , I was at a local lake and saw one of the club members who often won the tourneys held there . There was a nothing looking bank that I rarely seen anyone fish and I asked him if he fished it much . He replied "Why would I , there is nothing there ." Well I fished that bank and caught fish . That was over 40 years ago and I still hit that bank regularly .
  9. Its weird how lures and techniques get hot and cold . I seen a lure get hot for months on a lake , then never catch bass on it again from that water .
  10. As June comes to an end I thought I would update my season so far . Worms are coming on strong as post spawn bass occupy offshore brushpiles . Total bass caught 333 spinnerbait 117 toad 79 worm 78 crankbait 59
  11. That fishing line fools me all the time . I set the hook on it and fight it for a little bit before cussing .
  12. Heres how I do it . Push the point straight into the worm head, no angle at all, about 1/4 inch . Then poke it out at close to a 90 degree angle . This , I feel ,makes for a straighter worm .
  13. Theres a nice deep sand bar on the river I wade in . I go for a swim whenever I'm there .
  14. On an 8 inch Jelly worm I use a 3.0 offset hook . Its all the hook that diameter worm needs . Smaller worms , smaller hooks . Caught 35 on that combo yesterday . The hook was a VMC .
  15. Last week I lost one of my favorite discontinued crankbait to a stump that had heavy fishing line all over it . The catfisherman from bank keep snagging on it and breaking off . I was using a lure retriever and kept bringing up wads of line but could not free that crankbait .
  16. I wear a vest to hold my gear and take one rod and reel . All the lures have to be suitable with my rod n reel . No sense taking something that cant be cast . Shorts and tennis shoes . I dont bog myself down with gear so I can stay mobile . I often wade this river for up to a mile . The biggest problem is carrying water .
  17. I have all kinds of hooks and dont know what half of them are .Gammys , VMC and others just thrown in a slot in my terminal tackle box . I do like offset round bends and only use EWG's on fat lures that require them .
  18. I witnessed a bullfrog eat a sparrow .
  19. Another Sugar Creek at Moberly .
  20. Within 50 miles of me there is Bowling Green , Monroe City ,LaBelle , Ewing , Vandalia and other communities that have lakes to fish . Theres also Deer Ridge , Hunnewell , Henry Sever and Ted Shanks . Mississippi river , Salt river Fabius river. I know I'm missing some . Branch out further and there is Thomas Hill , Thousand Hill , Hazel Creek , Long Branch . The fishing is here . Look at this map and search the ones I listed ..https://mdcgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=aa720aaaf06b49269b355b5a6e049d28 Wakonda is another I forgot about
  21. There are small conservation lakes all over that offer good bass fishing . The further you get away from st louis the better . Mark Twain is often high and muddy and the bass fishing is usually slow early but it picks up around May and June . Last week a five fish limit of over 19 lbs won a tourney with the largest bass just shy of 7 .Most people fish for crappie and there are some monster three lb crappie in it. I use to fish Twain extensively and its good bass fishing for someone willing to put in the time . Now if you get discouraged easily , stay away from Twain and fish some of the numerous small lakes . I live in Hannibal and can name a whole bunch of good public lakes within 50 miles from here .
  22. Cant help you without any information of the water you are fishing , part of the country , equipment , boat or bank ...Dont leave anything out . The more info the better advice you will receive .
  23. The toad bite is on here . My next trip I plan on getting on the elec motor only lake before the sun rises and get to the less fished upper reaches before daylight . Theres a big one up there just salivating for a juicy toad .
  24. I've caught a total of one dink on the Choppo . I dont use them because of the mats of algae I deal with .
