  1. Dont limit yourself to a lure or lures. I dont know which ones to recommend because they all work . When fishing in the late afternoon and the light is fading a buzzbait is an option . They cover water and hook a high percentage of strikes
  2. This , I noticed on Glens last video , he was wearing one . I wear one metal detecting .
  3. The flat that I fish the most has a well defined breakline at the mouth of a creek arm .Through trial and error I found this area to be the most productive , the area where the flat comes to an end . Its basically ledge fishing . I always keep a marker buoy handy and toss it whenever I hook up . Buoys keep a person oriented , so one doesnt drift away and lose the spot . Its not marking fish its marking the location of the boat at the hookup .
  4. I fish them shallow and deep .Shallow is simple for anyone .When fishing deep I like to target the depth that most of the baitfish show up on sonar in open water . Say I'm seeing a lot of fish in the ten foot range , I follow the 12 to 14 foot contour chucking crankbaits or other lures shallower . I've caught some big ones doing that . Also like to fish them shallow at night because I can just make blind random cast and catch fish .
  5. I use plastic worms on jigs . Before the jig&pig became popular we used the jig&eel .
  6. You are lucky . My son never took an interest in any outdoor activity except snow-boarding .
  7. This wasnt a bass but I was fishing below the Lock and Dam 22 with a heavy jig and grub . Casting it out in the heavy current and letting it sink . I wasnt fishing for anything in particular just trying something out . I hooked into something big and made some headway before it turned and went the other direction . It stopped and I started reeling it back in then it made another turn and went the other way . This happens several more times before I figured out it was a barge rope or something loose in the current .
  8. My bass story using the 6'0" lightning rod , 4600 C and 14 lb stren . I was bank fishing this Mississippi river backwater slough that was protected by a levee . I have caught lots of big bass here . There was a log 15 to 20 foot out . I cast a black jig and pig [pork] over it and yo-yoed it a couple of times then it felt heavy . I set the hook on a big bass that I believe was well over 8 lbs and my personal best . The only way to get it in was to pull it over the log , so I put the pressure on hoping it would jump . It did just that and when it was airborne , I pulled it over the log and the hook came out .
  9. I have used that exact setup for years . I still have the rod but traded all my 4600Cs . Its eerily amazing how similar the equipment and lures you and I use were .
  10. I would secretly sink some brush where others may not be able to find easily .
  11. Time of year has a lot to do with it as does water quality , cover ... If its summer with a defined thermocline I will usually do both . At 6 AM I will probably be shallow , then try a point or some other structure later . But I'm not going to leave a strong shallow bite if its happening . If I get to the lake late I may start deep .
  12. I pour my own and bend the pre-form wire so its set lower in the water . It doesnt get the explosive hits like higher running baits but gets a very high hook up percentage . This is the best buzzbait I have used .Cast great , retrieves slow and solid hookups .
  13. Went last night and the surface temp was 91F at seven 0'clock and cooled into the 80's after the sun set .
  14. I ordered some tape . Last night I wrapped some glow stick bracelets from the Dollar Tree around a buoy and that worked fair . Just didnt catch any fish there .
  15. I like a 1/2 ounce with plastic swimbait trailer . The trailer adds drag so it can be fished slow and I am a better caster with the heavier lure .
  16. A weedless Charlie Brewer slider jig would be a good choice around cover .
  17. Hes going to brag about that one for a long time .
  18. If were talking bass a plastic worm . If were talking fish a jig and grub .
  19. Dont know other than I might zigzag it too much . I walk the dog with a Dalton Special and catch them .It doesnt have as much sashay .
  20. I'm back to night fishing and next time I want to mark a couple of spots off-shore . I tried glow sticks taped to buoys once and that didnt work , the line kept tangling up in them before it reached bottom . Have any of you ever tried glow in the dark tape on a buoy ?, or have any other ideas ?
  21. I have a terrible hook up ratio with spooks . So much so that I havent thrown one in years .
  22. The hot worm for me this summer is
  23. Off-shore fishing can be frustrating . I struggled with it a long time before it began to click . Still there are times when deep water is not working . Just keep at it , every trip do a little . WRB mentioned the life-zone which is a real thing . In my area shad are the predominant prey . They are delicate and die easily. I think they seek out the depth that has the best combination of o2 , temp , light ...to aid in their survival .I usually find it above the thermocline several feet . Bass will set up on structure at this depth . Study your sonar in open water looking for the depth that has the most life .
