  1. You caught bass motionless on chunks of hot dogs . Generally bass are not caught that way but weird things happen . I've caught them on shad sides while cat fishing . Now you can see these big bass so they can see you . Try not to be seen .
  2. I dont get all technical . To me a jig is a jig .
  3. This lake has five coves 100 to 200 yards long coves , which are flooded creeks . The back of the creek would be the shallower area further from the main lake , the front of the creek is the area next to the main lake .
  4. There are boaters who can tell stories about me . During a two day club tourney there was a lot of drinking going on that night . On the second morning my boater found me sleeping on a trailer bunk. He told that story til the day he died .
  5. Theres a product called parasite clips that will keep a soft plastic from sliding down a hook , interfering with a hook-set . I have also used swivels to do the same thing . Heres another idea . I have a 1/8th inch hole punch . Punch holes in a bicycle inner-tube , trim it up and
  6. I have had large un-pressured smallmouths follow my canoe around like pet dogs . Best not allow a lure hang off the side or a rod and reel might be lost , talking this from experience . When the news of this fishery got out to the bass fishing world ,that type of behavior ended .
  7. If the river is wadeable I suggest taking one rod and reel and fish a lot of it . . Some of the lures I take for wading smallmouth rivers are buzzbaits , poppers , spinnerbaits , texas rigged craws , tubes , hula grubs... jigs
  8. Man , the weather has changed a lot in the past week . Fall may have arrived .Started out with super hot humid days , then a couple of heavy rains and cooler weather . Yesterday was a beautiful overcast day but did not know what to expect having about 6 inches of rain dumped in a week . The 200 acre lake was a couple of feet high and clear . The day started out slow but once I got into a rhythm it was steady . Number wise , about thirty , no lunkers but 15 inch keepers were slamming the buzzbait .These fish were spread out . Back end of creeks , front of creeks , main lake flats . Covering water was the key . Caught 12 to 15 over the slot and only five under . Its been a long time since I caught that many over 15 inch bass on this lake . I removed the skirt from the lure and glued on a Shad colored Yum Money Minnow . The strikes were viscous . I may never fish with a skirt again . The lure cast further and could be retrieved much slower .
  9. I would report him but also tell the conservation dept the situation you are in . They have probably dealt with similar situations before and know how to handle it .
  10. Slow down and fish more thoroughly or speed up and cover more water . Thats what the Pros say .
  11. Red fire-tail on plastic worms . I hate those things . Seems like every-time I use them bluegills peck at the tail .
  12. I had a fantastic smallmouth river to fish then three years of severe flooding . It has not recovered . I went there recently and caught two when I use to catch dozens .I'm doubtful it will ever return to like it was .
  13. I have both those lures and never use them . I tried a couple of times . One of those things where i didnt catch a bass and havent developed the confidence in them . The RC , I have both sizes .
  14. Night fishing is more unpredictable in my experience .
  15. I forgot about the Bomber FaT Free Shad or in this case the Fat Free Shad Fingerling .
  16. Good choice . Good pick
  17. Admittedly I have not used many . The Bomber Flat A has caught me a lot of fish .
  18. Rapala Fat Rap .
  19. Keep doing it and only after you catch a couple will it start to click .
  20. Off topic but ... I like to keep bass , mostly under the slot limit and some over . I put them on a clip stringer and drag them all over the lake for hours , even in hot weather .Its electric motor only so the bass stay in the water and continually have fresh water flowing through their gills . Some of these bass may come from twenty feet deep , not the 40 foot and deeper they are catching them in this tourney . Any way , I never have dead fish . If a bass is bleeding badly I release it .At the end of the day they are still lively . I have had a lot of bass die in live-well's however .
  21. This is going to be a different scenario for me this fall . The lake I frequent has huge of mats grass { skunk weed }all along the shoreline. They use to keep it under control with grass carp . A good population of bass has been shallow all year . Buzzbaits and spinnerbaiits have dominated .The deep bite just never took off .I have caught some out there with the seasons biggest at fifteen foot but shallow has been much more productive . I dont know how the fish will react when the weeds turn brown . Its going to be fun figuring them out .
  22. I have hundreds of Jelly worms , so I use them all the time .I still have a lot of the old 6 inch Bass Pro Shop Squirmin Lizards . They are thin and flat . I like them because the hook comes through so easily . The Larew Salt Craw Is another favorite . Bass Pro and Mister Twister Worms that had a different color core would get used up rather quickly .Bright lime green Fliptail worms were a hot color . I have never found that color in any other worm .
  23. Boy did my team flop today . Started out at about 850 , now barely in the 600's . If Alton Jones flounders tomorrow i will be joining the 500 club .
