  1. That same breed are in my lakes . They will hit a crankbait fiercely .
  2. Buzz baits , Texas rigs , Carolina rigs, shallow / med / deep cranks and a 1/4 ounce spinnerbait dark or bluegill colored with a single #4 gold willow leaf blade .
  3. I catch channel cats on crankbaits often. I will target them on flats with a depth finder and troll through them .
  4. I dont know . I have a lot of bass seven and 8 lb and have weighed very few. It would have come from this list . : Lunker Lure : Jig and Pig pork not plastic : Arbogast Mudbug :Bomber fat Free Shad :Bomber Prop A Minnow :Bomber Long A Minnow :Blakemore C.C. spinner :Bomber Model A :Rebel Suspending Shad R :French Fry worm :Rebel Deep Wee R : Assorted plastic worms .
  5. Those are two good sentences .
  6. "But in those weeds i had a terrible time distinquishing bites from weeds anyone got any tips?" It gets difficult. If you feel a slight tap when the lure is falling , set the hook . But often you dont feel the tap and when you raise the rod you feel a slight resistance . A bass and a weed can feel exactly the same . I weigh my slack line and if it feels a little weird , I set the hook .. Thats hard to explain but thats what I do . Try this , its something I do a lot . Use a shiny perfectly smooth soft plastic lure . No ridges , bumps ...If in doubt if you had a bite or not , examine your bait. If a bass had it there should be a rough spot caused by its sandpaper like teeth .
  7. That map doesnt show lake topography but those points surely extend into the lake. If I were to visit that lake for the first time I would find the depth of the thermocline and fish those points down to that depth with texas rigs and 1/4 ounce weights .
  8. That map shows several points . Points are structure .
  9. I couldnt get the map to open but it seems to me that you are confuting structure with cover. There has to be deep structure in a 535 acre man made lake .
  10. That might be me some day. I'm always taking off by myself to places where my phone has no service. Thats what I like to do .
  11. Crazy aint it ? I've been fishing .25 cent spinnerbaits. A quarter on clearance . They produce great . I will put them up against spinnerbaits that cost 50 x more .
  12. I have similar success as wwII farmer . I use to employ a light / temperature meter that really taught me a lot .In the stained waters I fish , the thermocline was always at the depth where temperature and light plummeted. It was so predictable that I quit using it and just looked for the thermocline on a depth finder . I did not fish past that point. I pretty much know where light will disappear and fish the same depths after turnover . Last day I went fishing the thermocline was only 12 foot. I caught fish on a chartreuse Wiggle Wart at about 8 foot. Shallower water I caught them on a bluegill colored spinnerbait .
  13. You need to find a different spot.
  14. Heres my advice. Be quiet . Dont let the big fish know your there . Think about your lure choice . After awhile you will be making more educated choices. Every cast should have a reason. No random casting. That doesnt mean not to cast out in open water. It means when you are casting in open water your casting at a depth. I often cast at a depth . Learn to fish a Texas rigged worm well. Once you become proficient with a texas rig all other lures and techniques are easy .
  15. Sometimes I catch bass that are suspended off points by throwing a crankbait that goes to the depth the bass are at. Most recently I used a rebel Double Depp Wee R that dives about 10 foot to catch bass in 15 to 20 foot of water .
  16. Theres a main lake point with a hump on it. I would fish the pads there. Its right there on the north side where the lake splits.
  17. How often have you and your friends been catching 30 fish apiece ? Maybe they are becoming lure shy .
  18. none of the above .
  19. I've never done ebay .
  20. A crawfish Deep Wee R was the first long lipped crankbait I ever bought .
  21. I use to have a dozen of them and they have slowly disappeared . This one worked well and I hung her in a brush pile. Tried the hound Dog lure retriever and the line snapped . Time to make a hundred mile trip to a flea market and try to score some .
  22. Will the Carolina keeper hold a 3/4 ounce weight in place ?
  23. Just found another one today .
  24. This thread got me to thinking . One year I dedicated a part of the day , every day top water fishing . I used a lot of different baits . I caught a lot of fish that year on a Dalton Special. I dont think I have one anymore . I'm going to have to keep an eye out for one .
