  1. I went from 5:30 pm to 3 AM. I counted 38 fish caught , most in the slot 12 to 15 inches , none over it. I lost one big fish that broke me off in a brush pile. I was trying to hold pressure on it and get the boat closer to land it , I guess I held to much pressure. Was hoping for a top water bite but a black spinnerbait was the dominant lure .
  2. If you fish lakes with slot limits , the managers want you to keep the small bass. Slots are designed to improve a fishery. They dont work without public participation.
  3. When I go fishing I usually stay for 8 to 12 hours. 50 fish is only about 6 fish an hour .
  4. When I get to go I expect to catch 50 plus fish on my favorite lake with 1 or 2 5 lb and over. Other lakes I'm happy with 10 fish , period .
  5. Carolina rigging I use a quality 14 lb or bigger line . Years ago I used 15 lb Big Game but the lake has lost most of its deep brush and now I can get away with 14 lb Trilene xl .I like the fluorescent blue lines for any kind of deep bottom bouncing lures .
  6. Try a different crankbait . If I suddenly lose contact with a bait of any kind I'm setting the hook.
  7. I struggle getting my new boat trailer'd , it just doesnt go on .
  8. As far as techniques , I dont struggle with anything .
  9. The heat. I physically cant fish anymore when its hot .
  10. Everyone fishes different . Some guys have success with the run and gun technique. Some guys camp out on a spot. I usually had a plan A and plan B . Plan A was usually a specific spot or spots and plan B was usually an area .
  11. I have an Elite 3 with transducer mounted on trolling motor and all it would show was vertical lines . I had a broken transducer cable .
  12. So he just went by GPS ? Thats interesting .
  13. I wear prescription glasses and once had a pair of polarized ones for fishing. Right now I just buy cheap clip ons. My next pair of glasses I want the ones that get darker in the sun with polarization . I dont know if they can be got like that though /
  14. I would compete just fine in a jon boat. I might have to head straight to the bank but I could pull it off . I use to hear the snickering at my 15 foot Skeeter tri hull but those guys doing the snickering were making the mistake " that it is not the boat that catches the fish ."
  15. I still have my Shakespeare Wonder rod spinning rod , that was my birthday present in 1969. I got a Shakespeare reel with it but its long gone. I loved that combo.
  16. I can see it working on unpressured fish or fish that live in a noisy environment anyway. I just know if I drop something in the floor of a jon boat , I'm probably not going to be catching a nice fish soon . If fish identify noise with a feeding opportunity then it will work. I have observed that heavy boat and barge traffic on the Mississippi river gets the bass active .
  17. Thats a good technique. I use 5 inch Riverside grubs .
  18. I have a couple of those and a 6 footer. They are still my go to rods for topwater fishing .
  19. I'm going to go check today then . I need some shorties .
  20. My dad taught me the basics and they were pretty much all wrong bjut they worked . He grew up in the depression and they made due with whatever. I thought everybody used a piece of stick with a lot of loops thrown on as a sinker stop . LOL. We bought Zebco 202s by the dozen , they were disposable fishing reels . If they wouldnt cast then give them a dunk . Him and his brother made their own catfish bait , it was good stuff . I can still remember the smell of it , smelled like summer . We would go below the dam and tie a marabou jig two feet below a medium bobber and make our best cast. Usually had to pull string out by hand and " give it a dunk " because it was always catching in the reel . Once the lure got out far enough we would just let the current move it around. Somehow this caught fish . He would catch a drum , cut the side fins off and use the fins as a lure for white bass. We caught a lot of fish had a lot of fun and didnt spend much money doing it .
  21. At least you hooked a couple . I havent even done that lately .
  22. I use Mustad or VMC round bends mostly. They are inexpensive and are good hooks. The only time I use something different is on some baits the hook hangers are to close and short shank hooks are needed to keep from tangling on themselves , but they are expensive .
  23. I use to use the jig n pig all the time. I just got away from it. It worked all year . I caught lots of big bass on pork in the summer. I dont think I even have any pork frogs left. I need to get some because they do work quite well . I use to add them to a Bass Buster Scorpion spinnerbait and work it along a certain bluff wall. Its funny how we stop using lures and techniques even though they still caught a lot of fish .
  24. I've seen a lot of different color craws even purple ones .
