New To You Baits For 2015 That You Have Never Used Before?
I have never used an alabama rig and would like to try a light weight version . Theres a small lake I frequent that it should work well on but I dont want to take a flipping rod to cast it. Im limited on the amount of gear that can be toted and need to be able to cast the rig on a seven foot M/H pitching rod. Anyone have a suggestion ? It needs to balance out nicely with the rod or I will not use it.

How Much Soft Plastic To Carry On The Banks?
If Im walking down to the pond , I put one pack in my pocket and an extra hook and weight. If Im going to spend the day wading a river , I wear a vest and will take a half dozen packs .Ill carry a small box with hooks , sinkers, jig heads.

Carp Fishing
Ive used this before also , it worked pretty well. Still , nothing wrong with whole kernel corn. I have a camper on mississippi river backwater. Corn is my bait. I chum the area down. Walking up and down the bank tossing out corn.I carolina rig , with a heavy one ounce weight and a small Gammy octopus hook.I use flipping rods and retired baitcasting reels with 15 lb test big Game. . I add about three pieces of corn. I put the rods in holders that will stay secure when a carp bolts. I then keep the line tight. When a carp feels the weight and the tight line , it will often bolt hooking itself . I cant get doughballs to work this way because the hooks are inside the doughball and interferes with penetration. Id like to try the hair rigs , popular in Europe ,but havent quite figured out how to tie it .

Carp Fishing
I live close to the Mississippi and there is a lot of carp fishermen here. The most popular dough bait is made with strawberry jello. Its good stuff. Ive never made it myself but have used some others make . Just google strawberry jello carp bait .

Carp Fishing
I use wheaties. Just get it wet and squeeze it in a ball. I have a more complicated recipe I learned from an old man. It has to be boiled. I can try to find it but wheaties is much easier .

Pricing Out The Average Angler?
I was in the sporting goods department a week ago checking out rods.Theres a falcon that I like a lot and have been mulling over buying it. Its on clearance for a hundred bucks. It really feels nice in the hand. Then I picked up a super cheapo Quantum Torsion. Thirteen dollars. It felt great. Light weight , comfortable. I mean holding it in the store it was comparable to the Falcon . I still want the Falcon. But I still cant get over the feel of that cheap IM6 rod.

If You Could Clone A Bait

If You Could Clone A Bait
Shallow diving rogers Big Jims. I bought a couple three years ago at an antique store and they have been almost magical.I wont bore you with the all the stories but I once quit using it because the bass were hitting it to good and swallowing it , getting hooked in the throat and gills. I was spending more time removing the lure than fishing .I replaced it with a Rick Clunn crankbait because the fish were not taking it as deeply . I once had a Bomber long A minnow that was not balanced correctly. Everytime I twitched it it would come to a rest pointing at a 90 degree angle away from me not pointing at me..It was like walking the dog halfway. My biggest stringer ever was caught twitching this bait. 24 keepers and the six biggest would have weighed 35 to 40 lbs.

I've never heard this and it appears the others havent either .

Wake Baits
Before wake baits became a genre , I use to reel in a Pico Pop or an old Rebel chugger , {large Pop R } right under the surface. On a slow retrieve they would delicately wiggle. Perhaps the largest spotted bass I ever caught [ about 4 lbs ] was while waking a black Pico Pop . I was waking it trough some standing timber , Table Rock lake on a sunny summer day in clear water. The Heddon Lucky 13 is another one to try .

Lure Advice Needed
I wade fish and heavy current areas are one of the top spots. Texas rigged crawfish are my favorite lures and I cast up current as much as possible. I will cast across current or down current but up current is preferable .

Grass Lake Tackle
My favorite all time grass bait is the Top gun soft jerk bait by Riverside. I bought every pack I could find in those discount bins at Wal Mart.Rigged weightless with a large heavy flipping hook to aid in casting , it would glide on top of the slimiest slop because of it flat shape. Yum is bringing it back but they renamed it to Swurm .

Where Are The Bass In This Lake?
Pike are foreign to me. I have zero experience with them. So you may be right about them controlling that spot . I wouldnt know.

Where Are The Bass In This Lake?
I still think that point on the north side is the best spot on the lake. Its just so obvious that it would get overfished .X marks the spot.

Small Swimbaits
I bought a pack of Yum Money Minnows that were meant for an umbrella rig and had good results. I got into a school of fish that were reluctant to hit a square bill but jumped all over the Minnow. But that was just one day and havent repeated it ,.

Worm Dyes
Im going to stray away from the dyes. II bought a lowe deck boat so my wife could enjoy it too. I know I would end up spilling a bottle of dye all over her boat.

Other than the garlic scent , what is the difference between a Spike it marker and a permanent marker ? Will regular Magic Markers do as good a job ?

Camouflaging Fishing Line
Weve all caught fish using line that looks like rope. That does not prove that Doug Hannon was wrong. I dont know if breaking up a single strand of mono filament works or not but I do understand the concept and will not disregard it .
