  1. I just figured someone should save some money on some tackle. Thanks for moving the post, it didnt take long for someone to jump on the offer.
  2. I recieved a $20 off $100 + coupon in the mail a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately I will not be buying anything at this time of the year, but thought I should at least share it with someone else. It expires on the 15th of Jan., so time is running out. It consists of two codes, which you enter when you are checking out. Send me a PM if interested. I think I will just give it to the first person to respond. I just want someone else to be able to use it.
  3. work great for ice fishing. They dont simply jog straight up and down but cover some area around the hole too. I recommend a couple for anyone who fish through the ice.
  4. If we didn't buy all the gear advertised and used on the tournament trail, the sponsors would quit sponsoring the events and we would get what we appear to be asking for. What I think is interesting is how the BASS tournaments drive the rest of the fishing world. Someone wins a big tournament on a new lure, all the sudden it is the rage. We build our skill sets around those used in tournaments. For instance trolling for smallmouth (and even largemouth) and drift fishing with jigs are very highly effective, but you really never see it done, or innovation done around these methods. Some of the most basic and effective methods of catching fish are ignored because they are legal in tournaments, aren't flashy enough for the publications, and are therefore ignored. I think places like BR and others fill this void (as it is user generated content) but I would like to see more stuff on the 'its not pretty, but it works' side of fishing. I don't know about you but this sport has gotten incredibly expensive (my fault and the baitmonkeys fault) because we chase these things that may give us a slight advantage in special situations. Like basketball, football and any other sport you need to get the fundamentals down. I know that my new years fishing resolution is to simplify my fishing and return to my basics. 2 rods in my kayak, and 3 3600's in the deck (still more than I wish I was taking). not to rant too much.
  5. You have my escalation of commitment as well.
  6. As others have said, they work well. I actually got into a discussion in my Philosophy class in college regarding the baby bass patern. The argument made my Aristole (I think it was him anyway) is that it is that a species will not harm itself, and that it is in our own nature (and the nature of animals too) to not do harm to our own kind. One of the fundamentals of Natural law in a sense. My obvious question was, "Then why is my baby bass shad rap so successful in catching bass?" I was surprised that it spurred at least a half hour of discussion. Anyway, this thread made me think of that.
  7. I do a fair bit of walleye fishing, what do you want to know besides the stuff that can be found on google? They are a funny fish, thats probably why I like them. Sometimes they just jump in the boat, other times theyre near impossible to catch. I like to use live bait on a jig head or lindy rig. Water temp, and drop offs are key. Surely you have pulled up one or two on a texas rigged worm before or when youre crankin the wall? Those are good places to fish for a walleye. Trolling is pretty efficient, and my preferred method. Drift and troll, slow. Keep the bait in front of the fish Oh, theyre delicious too.
  8. I mean I agree, he was well known for his pardon of Nixon. I don't know how I feel about it, but don't really worry about it too much. I found it interesting that he made it to 93, which is great for an ex-pres. I think the office kills you. So we owe all of our presidents for sacraficing their own lives for our service, and corporate welfare. But he didn't really do anything outside the pardon and 'WIN'. A good human I am sure, but in comparison to the work that Jimmy Carter has done, and the example he has set he didn't do anything that would make lamenting about his loss (as a polician, not a human) worth the hassle. I mean, he gave Cheney and Rumsfeld some practice, let the S. Vietnam gov. collapse, didn't slow inflation, and let the income gap increase (it started to get out of hand on his watch). The only thing that I am really glad he did was make an exec. order outlawing political assisinations. That was a good move, but then again we still train terrorists in GA at the school of the Americas, or whatever they changed the name to. In comparison to Carter's post presidency service (election monitoring, habititat for humanity, and other humanitarian work), Ford didn't do anything. Thank you for the service, Mr. Ford, but just because you're dead doesn't make you a role model.
  9. Biggest bass I caught last year was on a sinking minnow. I have caught lots of bass on these and usually fish them like a senko (duh) much more durable then GYCBs and seem to work just as well. I love em and will tie one one without hesitation.
  10. I love mine, likely because I dont have a boat. I usually fan cast it out and get a read on the water before I throw a bait out. It is much better than just a map and blind casting. I get really good resolution and results with mine. Worh the price of admission if you are in the same boat (or lack thereof) as I am.
  11. Does anyone know where I can find extra spools for a Daiwa Capricorn spinning reel? I have looked all over the net and haven't been able to find anything. I have the 1500 size and want to get a 2000 size spool. Apparently they are the same size reel, and I would like the additional capacity. Thanks.
  12. Shhh, keep it that way..... I like fishing these a lot too. They work great for all sorts of situations. I almost jig em near the bottom, like a jerk bait I guess. Like was said above, they catch anything that swims.
  13. The Lindners have made such wonderfull contributions to the sport of fishing, and the science of fishing. We should all be extremely grateful and thankful for their dedication. Those pictures are great.
  14. Welcome Doug. I have, I mean we all have, had tremendous admiration and respect for you for a very long time. Watching you release all those huge bass on a fishing video as a lad (I think it was the "Formula for Success") and reading some of your work on the necessity to release fish and protect their habitat has really influenced me and the way I approach and think about fishing. I have considerable respect for you as a scientist, ecologist and fisherman. I can't wait to read your contributions to this community.
  15. My dad had all of his tackle stolen out of his garage one night. Luckily it was covered under his home owners policy. It was an exciting couple of weeks as we hit every sporting goods store in the area and pretty much cleared off the shelves replacing his inventory. The cashier at the fleet farm looked at us like we were crazy bringing up hundreds of dollars of fishing tackle. The bad thing is you can never replace that lucky lure, or even some of the old baits he had when he was a kid. You never really realize how sentimental you are with some of your tackle until it is too late.
  16. Yeah, I would also recommend kayakfishingstuff. I might even suggest you send them an email or give them a phone call, they are pretty good about fixing you up with a kayak to fit your needs. I think the biggest consideration you will need to worry about if you wont be out on any huge waters is weight capacity and length and manuverability. I would look for the shortest (aka most manuverable) kayak with the biggest weight capacity. Stability is also important but with a SOT, these things are like tanks anyway, its really moot with a SOT. small kayak that holds a lot of weight.

Agreed I have a couple deep husky jerks, they have been great for me fishing the middle depths very slowly and deliberately. Caught a few of the suspenders on Erie this spring and again this fall.
  18. To me anyway, I think the ultimate application is on the ice for ice fishing. You can set up your little camera in your shack and see whats going on. It is almost easier in open water to just search for the fish with a good search lure, but when you have to drill a hole it can help to take a look around. I would get one, but only if I did a bit of ice fishing.
  19. Yeah I dont think I will be getting a wiz bang set up. Part of my attachement to the kayak is its pure simplicity. Minimalist and efficient fishing.
  20. I think I'm pretty set on the yak now. The efficiency versatility, durability, efficiency, and economics of it make it ideal. The sea eagle seems like too much work for me. Take it out, set it up, inflate it, attach the trolling motor, load up the battery, hook it up, load up your other stuff, then off. I want to grab the boat from my roof and throw it in the water and be off. I also want something fast that I can cover some water with, and use in rivers and lakes. I just need to find a place around here to demo some boats and see which ones I like the best. After reading the wealth of stuff out here in cyberspace, as well as the Kayak Fishing book mentioned above, I have concluded that it is the idea fishing platform for my needs and style of fishing. I just need to save some $ and buy it. I can't wait. Thanks for your help guys.
  21. If a jon boat is your thing I would seriously look at used boats. I have had a few of them, and you can find some great deals on used jon boats. Theyre alluminium and usually dont show wear very much. You can get a lot more boat, especially in that price range if it is gently used. There are enough of them around that it shouldnt be much trouble finding one. Depending on your needs and where you fish, like was mentioned before the seaeagle or canoes and kayaks are also great little fishing boats that should fit your needs. I am looking at getting a kayak as well. What types of water will you be fishing the most, how much gear do you have, how many people will go with you, and storage are big concerns that should be considered and it is hard for me to make a recommendation without knowing.... like illini said above me.
  22. I just picked up "kayak fishing: the revolution" this past weekend at barnes and noble. It is really an informative book, and highlights the advantages of kayaks over other fishing platforms. It seems that kayaks are the wave of the future, they seem to be such a versitile, efficient and economical platform.
  23. im actually pretty partial to the hot mustard one myself.
  24. What kind of yak do you have 0119? Do you have rod holders etc installed on your yak? I am looking very seriously at the hobie outback, it seems to come with everything you need, and from what I have read the pedal drive is the cats meow. Saving my money... but let me know how you have yours set up.
