Lay in bed and start reading one of those college economics books. Will put you to sleep really fast. That's what I did when I had problems sleeping before a tournament.

A happy belated birthday wish. Happened to me 2 years ago. All I can say is It's always darkest right before the pitch black.
  6. I might be able to go Sat evening or night, or Sun morning. Let me know if you are going and you happen to have an open seat. This year has been my worst fishing year ever. I've only been out 3 mornings in the spring hitting the banks, and haven't been on the boat all year heck I haven't even put a hitch on the SUV yet. After being on crutches for almost 8 months with a completely fractured knee, there is soooo much work to catch up on. Wayne, If you go to Mauch Chunk, evenings and night are great for topwater and black spinnerbaits for numbers. For the bigger ones (which are far and few in-between) go with large black and blue jig&pig with rattles in the channel. Just got back from a week's vacation to DisneyWorld last night. It was the first time for Disney for my 2 youngest daughters. I promised no fishing on the trip. Stayed at the Coronado Springs Resort which has a beautiful bass lake. It was tough taking my morning walks watching the resort guide fishing with guests pulling in those Florida bass. But it sure has but the bug in me. Side note on the return trip from Disney. After clearing security, a TSA agent stopped me, said we have a problem here and made me put my hands over my head. Scared the heck out of me! He said in a loud voice for everyone in the area to hear WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE. I thought they were going to hall me off for a strip search or something. Then he says in a laughing voice, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WEAR A NEW YORK JETS T-SHIRT TO FLORIDA (I forgot about the bitter rivalry bewteen the Jets and Dolphins). My wife was roaring and claims she new right from the start what was going on. Man, he got me good, but glad to seen in these trying times that some TSA agents still have a sense of humor.
  7. I think you're right Root beer My advanced Economics prof made our lives miserable for 2 semesters. We referred to him as "Professor Kingsfield" (anybody remember the show?)

Is the MLB guilty of a form of hypocrisy? They got Rose for gambling on baseball. But the MLB teams up with baseball card companies like Topps. Topps, for example, over time has marketed and planted special baseball cards like the Be the MVP in NYC instant-win card deal. Is this not a form of gambling... buying packs of cards in hope of winning one of those special cards? Personally, at some point I believe Pete Rose will make it into the HOF, because as they say the only sure thing in life is death and taxes (and the occasional resurrection of the Muddy Lake Fork trolling motor story).

And Michael Vick will never play in the NFL again.
  11. Can you say "owned?" Nice fish!
  12. Stripped @ss Striped Bass don't count. :
  13. Congrats! But there's no bass fishing in Jamaica What's up with that?
  14. We're coming up on the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, which happened from August 15-18, 1969. With over 23,000 members at BR, I was wondering if anybody here attended? If so, how about posting some of your experiences. I was 12 years old, and I went to Woodstock. But the key word in that sentence is went not "attended." My friend's parents were gone for a long weekend and his older brother and a friend had 4 Friday tickets for Woodstock, and they were going to take us along. (But to digress a bit, one has to remember it was billed as the Woodstock Music & Art Fair, An Aquarian Exposition. And until it actually happened, it was just gonna be another concert and art fair.) Early in the week, I asked my parents if I could go. And, I guess like most parents of a 12-year-old, they said NO WAY! Well, it was a different time back then, so we decided to go anyway and get home in the evening before anybody knew any better. So we take off early Friday morning for New York (I said we were going fishing). At that time there wasn't the highway system like there is today. When we got across the state line into New York the traffic came to a dead stop. Obviously something big was happening. After a little while in traffic and listening to the radio, the two older guys decided they were going to get there no matter what, and stay the duration. So they turned the car around, drove back to my house, dropped me and my friend off at my house, and asked if my friend could stay with us for the weekend, as they were going back to Woodstock and stay for the weekend. The jig was up... the reports were everywhere of what was going on, and did I ever get in trouble. Back then, the big wooden spoon was the preferred method of punishment in my house. So I went to Woodstock, but never got there. When my friend's brother returned (they went back, parked the car, walked and hitched the rest of the way there), all I got for my troubles was a lousy T-Shirt. The T-Shirt is now gone, but I still have my ticket (although it's rather beat up and ratty now). I've never lived that event down, and even today - 40 years later, my 79-year-old mother still yells at me and gives me grief over my excursion to Woodstock. I guess the Irish never forget. So for me, it wasn't 3 days of peace and love, but rather 3 weeks of misery and punishment. And I never got to hear a single tune!
  15. Davisg, Welcome! Just my two cents, but if you want to start fishing lakes, Beltzville (or as we locals call it... "The Dead Sea") might not be the place to start. It can be a really tough lake, especially for newcomers. You might consider Mauch Chunk Lake in Jim Thorpe (probably about the same distance from you). It is an easy lake to catch fish at... well usually. It has good boat and bank fishing. When I am bank fishing there, I park at Launch A and fish from the swimming area up to the dam). Muddy is our in-house expert on that lake. My next door neighbor likes fishing Tuscarora Lake near Tamaqua, but I'm not familiar with it.
  16. Yes Aeroflex has loads of pads and matted weeds. Just drop a Senko or Crawworm in any small opening or hole in the matted weeds and watch your line carefully. Be sure to have a stout rod. The whole area near the end of the runway, right near the launch is where I catch the most. And I wouldn't weigh the spinnerbait down at RV, I just use ones with a single larger blade for slow rolling.
  17. An oldie but goodie Kent and three of his buddies have gone fishing every Saturday for nearly forty years. One Saturday, the guys are fishing along a highway when a funeral processional drives by. Well, Kent lays down his rod, stands up in the boat, takes off his lucky hat and places it over his heart. This processional is huge and takes nearly five minutes to pass. Once it passes, Kent sits down, puts his hat on and casts out without saying a word. Needless to say his buddies are floored by his actions. One of them finally speaks up and says, "that sure was a respectful thing you did there when they went by." Kent replied, "It seems the least I could do seeing as how I've been married to the woman for over forty years!"
  18. A friend from my old club said they all did pretty well at Aeroflex the other week. Oh yeah... I forgot to mention in my PM that slow rolling spinnerbaits (chart & white) in deeper water at RV can also be very effective.
  19. Welcome. I haven't been there this year, but I seem to have pretty good luck just working the shoreline from the launch up through the dam. I usually throw 4 curly tail worms texas rigged, 5 weightless stickbaits (woms in black, purple and camo colors), and white flukes around the riprap near the dam and any weeds (but the toothy critters like them also). Good luck there. Amazes me how black the bass are there. Must be the tanic type water.
  20. Welcome! You got some pretty good bass lakes in Jersey.
  21. Jigging spoons and blade baits, and occasionally a drop shot around the deeper structure has been my most productive tactic at Merrill Creek Res for larger bass.
  22. I second Merrill Creek. Round Valley Res might be too windy for a kayak. Swartswood and Aeroflex would interest you if you like fishing matted weeds. Here is a good resource for you: http://njbassanglers.com/places.php
  23. Nice outing! Don't give up on Spruce Run though.
  24. A couple of good ones I've caught over the last month: Sergeant York A Hard Day's Night The Night of the Triffids Gunga Din Lifeforce
  25. Fish deep when the going gets tough.
