  1. I think they first need to get a spell checker at BASS or learn how to spell responsiblity (responsibility) under YOUR COMMITMENT TO BASS. Time to unleash the Long Mike! http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/elite/news/story?page=b_elites_marshal_program

Well, broke down and got a new computer (no more Win95 & Win98 for me) Windows Vista downgraded to XP for a mere $99 (if that isn't a racket, I don't know what is). And upgraded the Internet Explorer from 6 to 7. Now the posts at BR are a washed out dark grayish color, and it seems parts of the letters in the words are almost missing. Sort of like reading the site with half a bag on. Oh well if its not one thing its another. Other than that though the changes I've noticed seem pretty good.

When fishing from shore, on in a small boat where I only take one or two rods, I use a very small bass snap for just about everything except were I need the weight to slide on the line (like the T-Rig). Makes life easier, and I can't say that it affects the strike ratio much.
  4. How about an IE6 USERS FORUM so we can commiserate about these software and web developers who force us to continually buy new equipment and upgrades, and to also reminisce about the good old days before Vista.
  5. Just can't to seem to feel sorry for the guys that get to fish right now without an ice auger in hand.

Yeah Muddy, things have calmed down and I'm back and might even be able to fish next spring... and I have to upgrade my computer. I'm currently running the latest version of GirlFriend and I've been having some problems lately. I've been running the same version of DrinkingBuddies 1.0 forever as my primary application, and all the GirlFriend releases I've tried have always conflicted with it. I hear that DrinkingBuddies won't crash if GirlFriend is run in background mode and the sound is turned oft. But I'm embarrassed to say I can't find the switch to turn the sound oft. I just run them separately, and it works okay. Girlfriend also seems to have a problem coexisting with my Fishing program, often trying to abort Fishing with some sort of timing incompatibility. I probably should have stayed with GirlFriend 1.0, but I thought I might see better performance from GirlFriend 2.0. After months of conflicts and other problems, I consulted a friend who has had experience with GirlFriend 2.0. He said I probably didn't have enough cache to run GirlFriend 2.0, and eventually it would require a Token Ring to run properly. He was right - as soon as I purged my cache, it uninstalled itself. Shortly after that, I installed GirlFriend 3.0 beta. All the bugs were supposed to be gone, but the first time I used it, it gave me a virus anyway. I had to clean out my whole system and shut down for a while. I very cautiously upgraded to GirlFriend 4.0. It worked okay for a while until I discovered that GirlFriend 1.0 was still in my system. I tried running GirlFriend 1.0 again with GirlFriend 4.0 still installed, but GirlFriend 4.0 has a feature I didn't know about. It automatically senses the presence of any other version of GirlFriend and communicates with it in some way, which results in the immediate removal of both versions. The version I have now works pretty well, but there are still some problems. Like all versions of GirlFriend, it is written in some obscure language I can't understand much less reprogram. Frankly I think there is too much attention paid to the look and feel rather than the desired functionality. Also, to get the best connections with your hardware, you usually have to use gold-plated contacts. And I've never liked how GirlFriend is totally "object oriented" A year ago, a friend of mine upgraded his version of GirlFriend to GirlFriendPlus 1.0, which is a Terminate and Stay Resident version of GirlFriend. He discovered that GirlFriendplus 1.0 expires within a year if you don't upgrade to Fianc ée 1.0. So he did, but soon after that, he had to upgrade to Wife 1.0, which he describes as a huge resource hog. It has taken up all his space, so he can't load anything else. One of the primary reasons he decided to go with Wife 1.0 was because it came bundled with FamilyAddonPlus. On top of that, Wife 1.0 must be running on a well warmed-up system before he can do anything. Although he did not ask for it, Wife 1.0 came with MotherlnLaw, which has an automatic pop-up feature, he can't turn off. I told him to try installing Mistress 1.0, but he said he heard if you try to run it without first uninstalling Wife 1.0, Wife 1.0 will delete MSMoney files before doing the uninstall itself. Then Mistress 1.0 won't install anyway because of insufficient resources. ( don't worry Muddy just some humor, I'm still married to a wonderful woman the one who causes me to refer to computers as SHE 1). No one but the creator understands their logic. 2). The native language they use to talk to other computers is incomprehensible to anyone else. 3). Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for later retrieval. )

Yeah, you all have finally beaten me. Time to upgrade, although the Dell rep was flabbergasted when I asked to have a 3.5 floppy added to the computer. And it's crazy, but they charge you $99 to downgrade from Vista (the scourge of business) to XP... go figure! (and 10 years how about 20 I still use a DOS based program and DOS only computers to do almost $2 million in company sales it's fun turning laptops back into DOS machines). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Stop Software Mistreatment! People for the Ethical Treatment of Software (PETS) announced today that more software companies have been added to the groups "watch list" of companies that regularly practice software testing. "There is no need for software to be mistreated in this way so that companies like these can market new products," said Ken Grandola, a spokesman for PETS. "Alternative methods of testing these products are available." According to PETS, these companies force software to undergo lengthy and arduous test - often without rest - for hours or days at a time. Employees are assigned to "break" the software by any means necessary and inside sources report that they often joke about "torturing" the software. "It's no joke," Grandola said. "Innocent programs, from the day they are compiled, are cooped up in tiny rooms and 'crashed' for hours on end. They spend their whole lives on dirty, ill-maintained computers, and they are unceremoniously deleted when they're not needed anymore." Grandola said that the software is kept in unsanitary conditions and is infested with bugs. "We know alternatives to this horror exist," he said, citing industry giant Microsoft Corp. as a company that has become successful without resorting to software testing.

Next time ask for the berry flavor... it's a tad bit better than the banana. And chilled is better than warm.

Unfortunately you need at least Win XP for IE7 to work... doesn't help us Win 98 (or Win 95) guys.
  12. My wife has been checking out this site recently. http://www.cybermonday.com/
  13. I'm a Jets fan since the early days of Joe Willie. Don't want to jinx things but GREAT GAME! Now if only they don't find a way to screw things up. Here is a real good read about Jets fans. Funny, it actually felt like the author wrote the piece about me LOL. It's called For Jets Fans, Every Silver Lining Has A Cloud http://www.realclearsports.com/articles/2008/11/for_jets_fans_every_silver_lin.html
  14. Don't know whether to take any of this seriously or with a grain of salt. But fiction, hypotheses, and such are sometimes fun to get bandied about. So regardless of the purpose here goes. The problem: I want to figure out a way to exonerate the angler later in the story. One solution: After exhausting many options to no avail, and while paying his "debt to society in prison," he sees on a bass fishing forum site (which he is allowed access to) a glimmer of hope. As it turns out bass fishermen are not all redneck bubbas. Many are well versed and opinionated in everything form aardvark to zwieback toast. This angler notices someone in the forum talk about presidential pardons, and reads that the current president (who's presidency will end in a few months) is also an avid bass fisherman. The angler sees the link to obtain the presidential pardon in the thread http://www.usdoj.gov/pardon/pardon_instructions.htm, and click's on it. Because of his work teaching fellow inmates how to cope with the world after release, and with help from the prison chaplain, he mounts a successful bid for a presidential pardon.

  16. When my wife's uncle comes up to visit from Philadelphia, we have an arrangement. He brings two Leo's cheesesteaks (the best I've ever had), and a slab of hot Philly pretzels. In trade, he gets one Wos-Wit Bacon Dressing, one Wos-Wit Sweet and Sour Salad Dressing and a Gallon Jar of Miller's Hot Bologna. SWEET DEAL!

  19. The state audit at work is finally over, the rally at Stabler went well (even with the curve Hannity threw at us), getting feeling back in my right hand, and I come back to this post. SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE!
  20. Yep work has been crazy, and Im going in again this evening. Kids activities also taking up some time. Haven't been out fishing in over a month. Went out one day and couldn't get the motor started so went right home. Hope to try out some new swimbaits with Muddy the end of the month. I'm also helping out with an old war hero and a pitbull till early November which is taking up some of my free time. So I won't be on BR much for awhile, but I will be checking in.

  22. Every year, Bass Pro Shops seems to feature some new type bait, or a rejuvenated old one, with multiple pages dedicated to various brand offerings in their catalogs. In 2006 it seemed to be frogs, in 2007 fluke type baits, and this year it appeared to be swimbaits. What's your guess for 2009? I'm thinking it may be the shakey head craze.
  23. CONGRATS! Let me guess will the new name be FISHING NUT ?
