  1. Co No Mo !
  2. Just throw a * out there and let it sit and sit and sit. My son-in-law has been doing this lately in the really hot weather with good results (I don't have the patience). I think deadsticking it might be key.
  3. If BASS wanted to make the Elite trail pro only, they should have done it from the beginning when they started the series. Did they do that NO! Did they have legitimate and substantiated minimum result requirements for pro's to fish the Elites NO (look at the history of many of the Elites as proof)! The term Elite has little meaning right now, and to use it as reasoning is truly disingenuous. Maybe some day it will. Sure, maybe 1/2 of the Elite anglers could be considered Elite, but the remainder lessen this designation. What they have done is take a RIGHT away from their grassroots membership who PAY MONEY to obtain these RIGHTS, and THE MEMBERSHIP should be up in arms about this decision. I liken those who support BASS's decision to people who idly stand by and watch their rights slowly be taken away by a government, and one day the light bulb comes on and say WHAT HAPPENED? Well my answer has been and always will be do something about when it happens, not afterwards. I will continue to protest this decision as much as I can. Do I think it will change anything NO, but at least I will feel good that I did what I felt was right in my heart. And who here thinks BASS would give a refund to those who paid their memberships through 2009? How would you all feel if I considered myself to be and extraordinary angler, and now refuse to answer fishing questions from any newbie here at BR because they don't reach certain standards? I would be drawn and quartered (and rightfully so). So what's the difference?
  4. My Jeeps have pulled my 18.5' Javelin Fish'n'Ski with a 150 Evinrude no problem. But with 270,000 miles you might want to add some sort of treatement (like Restore Engine Restorer or Rislone Engine Treatment, etc) in order to restore some compression & horsepower to that baby.
  5. I was a BASS club tournament director for a number of years. A paper tournament sounds best with canoes and kayaks. If you want my Pennsylvania estimated weight conversion (based on the Pennsylvania Angler Publication) Tournament Sheet, based on length, just PM me. The idea of splitting the lake into holes is good. But consider having each member pick a hole out of a hat, and they start there and move to the next numbered hole after each 30 minutes.
  6. Nothing to do with this post, but thought I'd share a funny little story about Roger Penske. He owned Nazareth Speedway before they shut it down in 2004. He is a very generous donator to worthy causes. My oldest daughter worked with children at one of the organization he donated to. He only ever asked for one thing in return, that the staff help out at the track on raceday. So my daughter was directing traffic in the parking lot on a raceday when a big stretch limo pulled up. The driver got out of the limo and came over to her and said he was going to park right in front of the track entrance. She said NO WAY! (she can be very forceful at times). She told him she was instructed that no one is allowed to park in front of the racetrack for any reason. She made the driver get back into the limo and drive away because he was not going to hold up traffic. About 10 minutes later the limo came back. The driver again got out and said Roger Penske was in the limo, and he'd really like to park in front of the entrance. (So she threw Roger Penske out of his own racetrack). She told the driver (to paraphrase) Why didn't you tell me this the first time, of course he can park there. He owns the track. After they parked the limo, Roger had a nice conservation with her and asked her to come into the racetrack. She said no, because she was bad luck for drivers. She explained that when she was young her dad took her to Pocono for the races. In a matter of a few years every driver she picked to root for had died. And that she decided to never follow racing again. Just as she was finished telling Roger the story, they heard a nasty crash coming from inside the racetrack. He told her... Well okay then, I guess it is better you stay out here.
  7. Yeah it's nice... but here we missed out on spring this year. And spring weather is my favorite for bass fishing. Seems like it went right from winter to summer.
  8. Yup... the bouncies were his signature smilie. (And I understand he's going to Yankee stadium soon... but don't tell anyone.)
  9. Yeah LM... from what I understand the new technique is to cast your lure out, set the rod down, and wait until a fish grabs it and yanks the rod and reel out of the boat. I think its called the mook juke. We spent the beginning and end of the day looking for his setup with my Cabela's Advanced Anglers Underwater Camera. Saw lots of cool stuff, but unfortunately no rod and reel. It was interesting though to actually see what the depth finder picks up... and helps you to understand your depth finder a little better. And I need lots more practice with a frog over matted pads. Four explosions and no hookups... pretty darn sad. Dom's tried his hardest not to laugh. He's going out Thursday and trying the frog.
  10. I finally got to fish with the Mudster over the weekend. Tough day but we fooled a few. And I discovered problems don't come in three's, they come in sixes (but that's another story). Dominick wanted to pass on a big thank you to all those BassResource members who helped with the fishing & recovery program he is actively involved with. Here it is, in his own words: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - THANKS TO BassResource.com MEMBERS FROM THE GUYS Hey Fellas; Thanks mostly to you, especially: Brent ( ***), Zel, Alpster, Speedbead, Long Mike and Risk Kid. Our tackle giveaway was hugely successful. We also have to thank Glenn, for letting me post a request for tackle on his forums. This year mostly because of many here, and a lot of personal friends, Bruce and I were able to set up the following people A lady who works with me, who lost her fingers in an accident several years ago and can't use a bait caster. She now has a Spinning outfit. A Father and Son, down on their luck 10 Guys either in recovery or fresh out of jail All got rods and reels, tackle and tackle boxes. And we had a 2 days camping and fishing trip, where (the highlight was) a dad and son, after years of hardship and personal tragedy, got to fish together for the first time. Thank You All Much Dominick, aka MUDDY
  11. WELCOME! Sorry, don't know anything about the lake. But if you are not aware of free lake contour lakes provided by the state of NJ, check out the link below, then click on Parvin Lake. It might help you determine where the prime areas are that should hold the bigger bass. Good luck. http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/lakemaps.htm
  12. For that general area regarding bass fishing, I would consider: Fairview Lake (unlimited HP), Tobyhanna Lake (Electric), Promised Land Lake (electric).
  13. LOL... Last night I pulled a LC Pointer 128 off one of the rods I'm gonna use, and put it away (although my favorites the Aurora Black). After RW's story I guess it's going back in my night box along with the identical Husky Jerk he mentioned. I've never thrown jerkbaits at night... I'll have to give it a try. Might be interesting. Question, if you throw jerkbaits at night, should they have rattles in them?
  14. Thanks DMB. I got a free monster sized jointed Jitterbug thrown into an ebay deal recently, when I got a couple of discontinued Jittersticks, I think I'll give it a try. And I might also try a big buzzbait out like dsaavedra noted. And that bend at Launch B, especially the man made structure from "point to point" is one of my favorites. And the point has a pretty good sized flat leading into deeper water. Although we may know the lake pretty good, I think sometimes you can get stuck in a rut on your home lake. I have never been able to get a consistent big bite there. Numbers has never been a problem. Occasionally you get into a bigger bite, and if you keep hitting areas similar to the same conditions, it might stay pretty consistent, but finding the first ones has always been difficult. I was looking to get some other ideas about things to try, that I may be overlooking. Like the saying goes sometimes all it needs is to have a fresh pair of eyes on it. Fishing for fun is the time I like to try new things out. Any input is welcome. Thanks.
  15. Okay, I'll be fishing a night bite with the Mudster this weekend. I figure we'll catch around 20 or so LMB, but most will be in the 10-14 range, AS ALWAYS. I would really like to go after some of the bigger ones (the lake does give up 5+ pounders), but catching them and locating them has always been a hit or miss there. The one side of the long narrow lake has a huge amount of boulders in it (many the size of a Buick). It also as a good population of weeds, both packed and sparse, and also a lily pad area. A creek channel runs the center of the lake and there is a lot of man made structure in the lake, of which I have a man-made structure map. There are a few dropoff areas where it goes down into some deeper water, but it's the same action there as everywhere else. I fish the key areas listed above, which in my opinion should hold the bigger bass, but again it is always a hit or miss, even when I fish larger baits like 7 10 worms. I'll be primarily fishing topwater baits, a black colorado blade spinnerbait, 7 black worms and large jig & pig w/rattle. Here are some of the maps (sorry for the quality but these maps have not been available for over 20 years and they are copies of copies of copies). Any suggestions, or alternate methods, or different things to do to get some of the bigger ones. Thanks.

Gman, My post had nothing to do with what you noted earlier. It was meant more for anyone who thinks more criminals will have guns because of the ruling. And of course you were being sarcastic... your tagline makes that quite clear.

Laws are for law-abiding people. Does anybody really believe criminals would not have guns just because it is illegal? Jail is not a deterrent for most career criminals. Alaska and Hawaii were given statehood when I was 2 you figure it out. (Happy Birthday Long Mike! Glad to see you back in action! As for getting old... I would never trade my loving family, my friends, or the life I've made for less gray hair or a flatter belly.)
  19. Good one Olebiker. I've had my wench snap on me a few times... not pretty either.
  20. I was a club tournament director for many years. You said you have printed rules, but I assume that you don't address the matter of refunds in regards to a DQ. I wouldn't be concerned that the teams are not new to fishing tournaments but have been around for a long time and should have known better. Rules are rules, and when you start applying rules differently to participants you open yourself up to bigger problems. I would keep the money. It sends two messages: One, you won't tolerate breaking of the rules. Two, it sends a clear message out there to others. Becasue by keeping the entry fee, it stops others who would take the chance of getting away with it, and thinking they will get their money back if they get caught. Now if they fight it, I would discuss it with the other members of your organization. And if they feel its not worth the hassle, then give back the money and ban them from all future tournaments. That sends a powerful message to other organizations about these guys (word spreads quickly with bass tournament guys). Personally, I always fought prefishing off-limits rules. Basically because it is next to impossible to enforce it for a small organization.
  21. Those dressed trebles look great Islandbass!!! I tie mine up over the winter for jigging spoons and jerkbaits. I seem to have gotten away from the feathers and usually only use Flashabou now. Sometimes I also tie a rattle to the ones I make up for the jigging spoons. But my pre-made supply usually runs out sometime in August. I found a quick and easy way of dressing them up on the water. I keep two sizes of red Heat Shrink Tubing (Polyolefin Tubing) in the boat with some Flashabou. I use a thinner tubing for Flashabou only, and a wider one for Flashabou and a rattle. Slap them together and use a lighter to heat up the tubing for a tight fit and you're ready to go. They don't hold up as well as the pre-made dressed trebles, but does get you through the day.
  22. This post brought shivers to my spine... Sister Mary, mother superior at the Sacred Heart Catholic school... patron saint of sadistic beatings.
  23. How about a thread where you ask a question about anything from your general bank of sometimes useless knowledge, and whoever gets it right gets to ask another question (try not to google it, and answer on your own). I'll start. Name a word that contains only one consonant and four vowels.
  24. WELCOME! I fish 2 northeastern PA akes that are predominately smallmouth habitats. You noted that the water is gin clear, deep, and has good structure. For me those combinations means downsizing when fishing for smallmouth. I will list 3 things which I would not be without in the conditions you listed, but you need to fish your strengths and confidence baits for a tournament. 1. If there were any wind, or a chop on the water, I would be fishing a 4 Fin's-Fish in rainbow trout color. I would have no problem fishing it anywhere, even in 30 feet of water over bass migration routes. It has been my experience the smallies will come up 20+ feet in gin clear water to smack the soft jerkbait (but chop on the top is key). 2. I would also have a 4 Slider Worm, or a 4 hand poured Berkley straight worm, tied to a 1/8 ounce Slider Spider Jig. I would stick with natural dark colors like black, watermelon w/red flake, green pumpkin, and if there were blue bird skys I would also throw a darker purple. I would hit all structure with it down to about 15 ft. 3. If the bite was tough, I would also add a jigging spoon to complements the drop shot. With the jigging spoon, I find it works best when targeting bass in the 2030 ft water depths, with the bass suspended 1 to 5 feet from the bottom. I would prefer the area have some structure the bass are relating to, and that baitfish be in the general area. Silver = sunny, gold = cloudy. Good luck in the tourney. Let us know how you do.

If George were a member here, he might have come up with the "Seven Dirty Words/Statements" for BR: Politics, Religion, S e x, Ex-Member, Glam Shots, Competitors Websites, and How Do You Fish A Senko?.
