  1. I find myself partial to finesse presentations. 6, 8lb test FC at most. Seems like it catches more fish generally and when you get a beast on it's exciting as hell. Don't get me wrong ... I enjoy catching them on spinnerbaits too but when you have a 6lb Smallmouth on an 8another siteC leader with 10lb PowerPro braid on it will get you very nervous! That's the thrill in finesse to me. As for getting it into the boat in a timely manner ... to me I could care less how long it takes me to get them in as long as they are in! Experience and practice will make you more efficient but the name of the game is landing them at whatever cost.
  2. Little did I know ... I was putting together my "Panic Box" Timely article featured on BassResource. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/iaconelli_panic_box.html Looks like I need to add those inline spinners. I have small jigs already although they are not hair jigs.
  3. It was a little less. No more than 7 feet. The chunks were huge in some cases. It was that way all around this cove. Changing tactics makes sense. The suggestions on this thread rock! (No pun)
  4. I started with 1/8oz jigs and tried hopping it to avoid getting stuck. Got stuck too much in the stuff I was in. Lost 3 in less than 20 minutes so I decided to change tactics.
  5. How do you shore fisherman handle fishing chunk rock bottoms slowly? Can't run a jig through it because they snag way too much. What other options do I have to fish it slowly?
  6. I am a Red Eye Shad guy myself. My tournament bag is all 1/2oz Red Eyes. I got these Rapalas on clearance to try them out. Have not fished them yet.
  7. Enjoy! I didn't get to fish when I was in FL. Would have been nice. I bought the bag with this Emergency Kit in mind. Wish I had it then. Catch one for me!
  8. Tackle Warehouse has an iCast 2010 video which shows Greg Vincent presenting the different ways to rig this puppy. Quite an interesting bait.
  9. What do you mean by cheap? I am a big Seaguar FC fan. Seaguar Red Label - $11.39 (used for leaders) For any other presentation (Drop Shot, Shakey Head) I go with Invizx - $17ish
  10. It's designed exactly like the Jackall Cross Tail Shad. It was bugging me. Couldn't remember the name. By the way there is a video on the Jackall site which shows this lure. I expect the ZDrop to function the same. http://www.jackall-lures.com/products/soft_cross_tailshd.html
  11. I am blessed to have an opportunity to travel for work. With that said I don't always have time to fish for many hours. When I do get the opportunity I like to keep a little "Emergency Bass Kit" with me just in case I can carve out at least one hour or so on the bank someplace. Not shown are ... 1) A travel pack of MegaStrike 2) One pack of senko's predipped with JJ's 3) Rod: 6'6" MH Spinning Rod 4) Reel: Abu Garcia Orra SX with 10lb Braid (PowerPro) I could probably pack more into that bag but it's about those key things I have confidence in. If this were your bag what would you change?
  12. Not yet. Lakes are still frozen up here. Dying to get out. Just booked a trip to Dallas, TX for a few days. I'm hoping to catch my fill there to get me through this winter. It's in a few weeks.
  13. It can vary by technique ... For plastics I stick with 3 basic colors Watermelon - Clear/Stained Green Pumpkin - Stained (all purpose) Black/Blue - Stained/Murky The sunnier (blue skies) it is the more I work my way up the chart. The greyer the skies the lower down the chart I go. So as an example. At sunrise I go with Black/Blue. As the sun rises I move up the chart. If the water is clear I throw Watermelon at the brightest part of the day. Hope that helps BTW - For cranks I am the exact same. Sexy Ghost Minnow (clear), Sexy Shad (Stained), Chartreuse/Black Back for stained/muddy.
  14. Bobby. I have 3 others I am bringing with me. Should be a blast!
  15. I have done some experimenting here and found KVD to be the best. It seems to keep the line memory down much more than any other I have tried. In reading up on it there seems to be something in it which absorbs into the line to help it keep memory down. Other either don't absorb as well or are just a topical resolution which means you need to keep adding it to get the effect. With the KVD stuff ... I treat my line when I put it on and then the night before I fish and that is it.
  16. This year I am experimenting with putting on 65 yards of main line to my baitcasters. With the average spool of line being 200 yards that would give me 3 refills throughout the season as I need it. 65 / 65 / and 70 respectively. Doing the math it comes close to the 60/40 mentioned above.
  17. I just finished watching an episode of Fishing University and I saw Mike McClelland do something worth asking about. He caught a fish and put it up against a mark on his rod just above the reel. It looked like he was using it as a quick way to check if it was a keeper fish. I'm sure if it was close he would measure with a ruler. Does anyone else do something like this? Put markings on the rod to roughly measure to see if the fish is a keeper? What about putting markings on the rod for gauging water clarity?
  18. Nope but I bought a few packs myself. Waiting for the ice to go away to begin fishing them. They are designed very similar to a Jackall designed soft bait but at a much cheaper price.
  19. Tubes/Worms ( or plastics in general) - Green Pumpkin, Black/Blue, Green Pumpkin Magic Spinnerbaits - White, Chartreuse, White/Chartreuse Chatterbaits - White/Chartreuse, Blue/Black Lipless Crankbaits - Chrome/Blue, Chrome/Black, Gold/Black Jigs - Green Pumpkin, Green Pumpkin/Blue Flash, Black/Blue Red indicates the one I would choose if I had one choice.
  20. I always use a 4/0 EWG on my Stanleys. I just bought the baby frogs. I think a 3/0 would work well for that.
  21. Thanks guys this is helpful. Looks like I have an early spring project. Anyone out there actually have this setup on a canoe? Pics? Vids?
