  1. That is a nice blade ... May need to pick some up.
  2. That is good news. The ice is out here too and I am starting to get reports of bass being caught up here. Hoping this weekend is my 1st weekend out up here.
  3. I just use these ... carry black and red with me. http://lurepartsonline.com/Online-Store/Lure-Stickers/Dancer-Jig-Blade-Stickers.html
  4. As soon as the ice is out I tend to at least dabble in topwater. At the very least to knock out the rust from a winter of no fishing. Some of my biggest bass have come early after ice out on a Sexy Dawg.
  5. This is interesting. At the pro level they sit in a chair for 8+ hours each day for as long as their chips last them. The winner could be there as long as a week when it's all said and done. I know fishermen who do exactly the same. Lol. I lean on the it's a sport side.
  6. I own plenty of burners. Love them. Because of the lack of lift they are much easier to slow roll IMO. Tend to get better bottom contact when using these spinnerbaits.
  7. I'm lucky ... I found fishing after having a wife and kids. It's my escape and now my passion. She supports it as long as I don't sacrifice my responsibilities as a father/husband to make it happen. I get to fish a lot! I drag my kids if they want to come. So far my little one is the only one who has the bug.
  8. Wow. Didn't think the Explorer came with a 3rd row. Time to go shopping.
  9. 4 kids man ... 4 kids.
  10. Loved my Mustang ... had to trade it in for a min-van. One stereotype I wish was only in movies. Sad but true. Welcome to the forum!
  11. I am SO torn on this subject it kills me. I have Braid on one setup only. My flippin stick in a lot of veg. I like Fluorocarbon a lot. Have a lot of confidence in it. This year I committed to trying braid to FC on a few of my baitcasters just to see if I can gain enough confidence in it to convert fully. Save money on the amount of Fluoro I go through. I already do this on my spinning setups. My experience on Toledo Bend a few weeks ago made me rethink this however. My boater was getting bites on straight FC in stained waters. I was using braid. No bites. I overhauled my setup one step at a time. First the weight, then the lure and finally added a leader. Magically (or coincidentally) I began getting bites. Never, ever thought it would make a difference until that experience. We were around fish. Very apparent by his catches. That switch was literally a night and day difference for both of us.
  12. 1 - Improve as a kayak angler (Hanover read my mind). Going into year 2 of it. 2 - Learn the carolina rig. I love the Mojo ... never caught on a Carolina Rig. 3 - Improve my flip n pitch ... Got a good start with my Toledo Bend trip.
  13. When I first went out with an anchor I didn't have enough line and it was one big PIA to stay in place. Since then I have added much more like and also carry 2 sizes with me in case it gets a bit windy. I tried making my own anchor trolley setup. I don't have much confidence in it. I just anchor off one side or the other of my yak and manage accordingly.
  14. Amen to this! Treat your stuff right and it will last forever!
  15. Chartreuse all the way ... I bought both the clear and chartreuse. Went through the chartreuse way faster. Love JJ's
  16. Too many variables ... easy to misunderstand. Maybe we can get ESPN Sports Science on this! Would be awesome to see a Hackney jig catch under the microscope. To contrast it would be nice to also see an Aaron Martens drop shot catch evaluated the same way. Wouldn't be a show without a KVD Crankbait or Spinnerbait bite to round out the evaluations.
  17. One word when it comes to the fishing aspect ... leverage. Just the right amount = putting the fish in the boat. Since everyone else is different the rod, reel, line lure combination will vary but if all equals out to you having the proper leverage on the the fish = You win. Boating ... way over my head. Just know that if you drive off ... please let me know so I don't end up in the drink.
  18. I wouldn't trade my Keitechs for the world. I do like the Havoc Beat Shad or the Strike King Swim-n-shiner as an alternative however at slow speeds there is a considerable difference.
  19. TW has a 2 piece baitcaster. Abu for $50. Bought it for the Toledo Bend trip. Absolutely loved it!
  20. I was hoping this was the start of a joke. Take care of YOU! We will be here when you are ready. Good luck bud.
  21. Coating of snow here too. Very depressing. This winter won't end.
  22. Some already mentioned but worth restating 1 - Look for sales. Try not to buy retail price. WalMart, DSG, eBay etc. 2 - use backing ... get 3 spoolings out of 1 150 yard line instead of 1 or 2. 3 - buy essentials in bulk (hooks, sinkers etc.) Generally cheaper this way. 4 - Do your research! Some things might be more expensive but the quality will reward you well. 5 - Swap with friends ... no cost. get new stuff. 6 - Make a list ... wait for Christmas/birthdays.
