  1. This will definitely be interesting. The first thing I thought of is their sponsors as well. The baits are the key. Can't wait to see what they offer and how they will differentiate them from their sponsors..
  2. Over the winter I casually read a lot of stuff about fishing. I pay particular attention to whatever techniques I am focused on mastering. Last year was the drop shot and mojo rig. This year it's the jig. As for when I go out. If I have a few hours after work I generally hit the bank with a new technique in mind and try my hardest to focus on that one technique to get a feel for it. On other occasions I also bring my "go-to's" when I am truly just trying to shut my brain off and chill while fishing. To me it's fun to try new things out. As crazy as this may sound it's not always about catching fish for me. Just the time away doing something for me is worth it.
  3. I picked a good year to buy my snow blower. One decent storb before Christmas and now I am in the midst of another one. Expected between 6-10 inches today and into tomorrow. Spring can't get here soon enough!
  4. Welcome to the forum. I started fishing at 37 and never looked back. When I started I began with two baits Weightless senko - 4/0 hook and 5 inch Senkos are readily available and just flat out catch fish all season. Focusing on this technique allows you to master the fundamentals - Line tying to a hook, going slow and setting the hook. After a month I began introducing my first "power fishing" technique. That is where the spinnerbait. 3/8 White/Chartreuse. I threw both on a 6'6 MH Spinning rod. Good luck.
  5. I use one of 2 hooks ... the VMC Spinshot size #1 or the Gamakatsu split shot/drop shot hook. Same size. Never had problems with those. Maybe consider trying those along with the suggestions bflp3 mentioned.
  6. What he said ... IMO the Veritas is a little stiffer than advertised so that MH is more like a cross between an average MH and H.
  7. Line size has so many factors to it for me. With that said I try to fish the lightest line possible for the conditions. It starts with the cover I intend to fish. I am more inclined to go with a bigger size line for flipping a jig in brush than on weed edges for example. (20lb FC max) Size of the lure is next. Again for anything bigger than a 1/2 oz I would go bigger ( 15-17lb test) Water Clarity - The smaller the better. I don't go any less than 12lb FC for jigs on a baitcaster. 10lb on Spinning. 12lb is a good all around place to start. No better way to learn than to try it. Seems to work ok for me. Hope that helps.

  9. I pour at a garage in a friends house. We keep it well ventilated and we still wear masks and gloves and a long sleeve shirt.
  10. What kind of hook and lure are you using?
  11. I think he has one more year before that happens.
  12. So in other words the mojo weight is free and the bead is what you peg instead. A "true" baby carolina rig then. I will try this with a Carolina Keeper next spring. Sounds interesting. What rod, reel, line are you using?
  13. Basically the same that aprw1 just said. For consistency I tie the leader on and reel the uni-uni knot to the end of the tip (top guide). I cut the line between the last guide and the reel. Then I tie my drop shot.
  14. I dabbled with both braid/fluoro last year and straight FC. I found that I felt more with the braid/fluoro leader. That probably resulted in a better feel and thus catches. IMO it doesn't impact the presentation at all unless your leader is too short. I put a leader on the length of the rod and then tie my drop shot at the end of the FC leader. My base setup is 3/16oz weight 7 inches below the #1 VMC spinshot. Leader tied with a double uni.
  15. My #1 producer by far was the Strike King Fat baby Finesse worm. Caught a ton on it this year. It was hard for me to try more things than that but I did. My #2 producer was a Keitech Easy Shiner with a 3/16oz sinker. Allowed me to fish it faster and cover more water. Besides those I also used Zoom trick worms along with various other finesse worms. Next years arsenal is expected to include ... Finesse Tubes Tiny Brush Hogs Fluke Jr.s Missile Baits Fuse 4.4
  16. Great site, great sponsors, great people!
  17. Guys, My setup is a 6'3" Medium Rod, 8lb Fluorocarbon. I generally use a 1/0 or 2/0 EWG hook and begin with a 1/8oz sinker. Worked well for me last year. What do you guys use?
  18. Just picked up a few packs of these for $2.95 each at Dicks Sporting Goods. Thought they might be a good bait on a drop shot or Mojo.
  19. This site, learning about the jig including pouring, painting and skirting. Watching my collection of The Bass Pros. All 7 seasons.
  20. Its simply more about presentation than color IMO.
  21. The only standard I try to keep is to learn something each time out. Even it's just something little. Other than that it's all about getting out there and enjoying the time out on the water.
  22. x2. I would love to but ice fishing doesn't do it for me. Tried it for two winters and I just don't enjoy it like I do after ice out.
  23. Zoom Ultra Vibe worm. I also love the new Rage CutR worm.
  24. #5 and #14. Looking to add at least one more next season.
