  1. This is my theory. If my drag fails and I have enough(lb test) line to get the fish in, then I "might" be good. But if my drag is working properly and there is even a slight problem with my line, I "might" be screwed. Example - I have 20 lb fluoro tied on, catch a big one and the drag locks up or even starts slipping, I "might" land the fish. But if I have 12 lb mono tied on and my drag locks up, then I "might" break off. Also, if the drag starts slipping, I "might" not be able to horse the fish in. That's the thing about fishing, there are a lot of "might" have been's. EDIT*** Maybe I misunderstood your question. Are you assuming everyone just locks their drag down?
  2. Wow! I must be a strange one. I have one finger in front of the stem and three below it.
  3. We couldn't get so lucky. Many of the worlds problems would go away if social media died. I shouldn't say go away, but it sure would be a better place.
  4. I only use a bead on a Carolina rig, I peg my weight when throwing a t-rig.
  5. By what I saw on the field. You and I could have ran for thousands of yards behind that Dallas O-Line in the 90's. The Lions O-Line was not very good and Sanders managed to do what he did. But I guess if statistics is your thing. Sanders average yards per game = 99.8. Smith average yards per game = 81.2. Smith played in 226 games and Sanders only played in 153. Smith had 18,355 career yards and Sanders had 15,269 in 73 less games. Based on average, if Sanders had played the same amount of games, he would have had 22,554 yards. Hard to argue those stats.
  6. I think it's all about how you treat other people. My fishing buddy, who I would take a bullet for, is what I guess you would call a "flake". When we plan a trip, and I tell him we are leaving at 6:30, then that is what I mean, and he knows it. If he isn't here, then I go without him. He may text me at 9:00 and say, can you pick me up at the dock. Guess what? I do. Because he is my friend. This goes for golfing, hunting, etc. but I won't let it effect our friendship. I know it was probably never actually said, but in Tombstone when Doc went to take up for Wyatt, Turkey Creek Johnson asked him why he did it. He said, Wyatt is my friend. Turkey said, hell Doc, I got lots of friends. Doc said, I don't. That is how I live my life. I don't have a lot of "friends", I have guys that would drive across the country to help me if I needed it. In the grand scheme of things, fishing is pretty much on the bottom rung.
  7. The Lions, who are probably the worst team in NFL history, had the best RB to ever play the game. He retired because the team sucked so bad.
  8. I got to talking to a buddy tonight about carrying cash. I NEVER pay for anything with cash when I can use my debit card, but I carry cash. I think this may be a generational thing. I am 41 so cash was king when I was in my early 20's. I could write a check, but as I got older, checks became almost obsolete. I moved to paying for everything with my card but I still carry cash for emergency's. My buddy who is younger than me said he might have $10 or might have $100 cash on him at times. I know it might sound strange, but I have always had this "you never know" attitude. I always have at least $500 cash on me. When I told him that, it blew his mind. I know guys that carry 2-3K on them. I guess I post this to ask, do you guys carry cash? I look forward to the responses because I know some of you guys come from a time where it was basically cash only, and we have the younger guys who have probably never had to use cash. I never really thought about this till tonight.
  9. Thanks for all the advice! I haven't even looked at the cost of insurance yet, too afraid of what it might be. LOL
  10. My Son turned 16 last month but due to the rules of how long you have to have your permit and the crazy things that went on during the pandemic, he is just now eligible to get his DL this week. I am a nervous wreck!!! I don't know how my parents, you guys that are parents, or any other parents handle their kids driving. He is super cautious, maybe even too much, but I just don't trust the "other" drivers out there. I have tried to teach him that he needs to have his head on a swivel and pay attention to EVERYTHING because so may people are distracted these days that driving is a hazard almost. I have never really thought about this till we started driving together and how so many people are not paying attention. I notice it a lot more when I am riding with him as opposed to when I am driving, I guess because I have been doing it so long. Anyway, I am posting this to say, be cautious out there, because you may be driving alongside someone with little to zero experience. LOL!!!!!!!
  11. Matt Prater attempted a 68 yarder today that was returned for a TD.
  12. I am very "handy" and can do just about anything when it comes to home projects. I can replace an outlet, hang a ceiling fan, run a can light, etc. However, I have decided that moving forward, I will hire someone to do it so I am not held responsible for burning my house down.
  13. If I could only have one? 7' MH fast
  14. I am a school teacher. I don't make enough to support my wife and four kids without going into credit card debt every month. But they are the most important thing in my life. No way I would take a chance to be a pro and my family suffer the consequences of my decision.
  15. This post right here should be very telling as to what it takes to truly make it as a Pro. A person has to not only be able to catch fish, but be driven to attempt to make a living at it. It takes a lot of belief in one's self to put your own money on the line to try to make it. Being wealthy sure would help, but most of the successful Pros have earned their spot.
  16. I haven't been since May. These girls have me wrapped around their finger so going to softball games has taken over.
  17. I agree, there are hundreds, no, thousands of guys that could have made it in the NBA, NFL, MLB, etc. if they had just had that one opportunity or break to make it. But literally ANYONE can attempt to be be a professional fisherman and earn their way on tour. It's like professional archery, you can pay to shoot the pro class, but can you make any money to be a "pro".
  18. It really doesn't cost a lot to fish the Open's if one truly wants to be a Pro. You don't have to have a $90K boat and $70K truck if you have the talent. There are a lot of "average Joe's" that try, you have never heard of them for a reason. Same. I beat Zack Birge on a tournament at a local lake. Do I think I could beat him in 12 events across the country? NO WAY!!!!
  19. I have played with guys that shoot 66-68 on the local municipal course that literally think they could play with the Pro's. I just laugh and shake my head.
  20. Sorry, I'm an idiot, I didn't realize this was the new Met.
