  1. It was great!!! Everyone was happy, or maybe they just wouldn't tell me it sucked LOL. I do think it turned out well. My wife even like it and she doesn't like turkey. Thanks for asking!!!
  2. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!!!!
  3. I learned having 3 daughters that play softball and watching and or coaching some 206 games over the Spring/Summer means you have little to no time to fish. LOL!!!!
  4. Never heard of Dan, but I can assure you you no one will ever mention me on an internet forum when I pass. So, Dan must have been a good guy. Thinking of Dan's family.
  5. Some of you might remember me starting a thread about my son turning 16 and getting his drivers license. As far as that goes, so far, so good. He has been on his own for a while now and done well. However, tonight as I was sitting in my tree stand I got to thinking about all the STUPID stuff I did when I was younger and how lucky I am to be where I am today. I sat there and prayed my son never acts like I did when I was younger. I did so many dumb things that I hope he never does. I drove way to fast and reckless. I went to parties that I should not have been at. I hung out with people that I should not have been hanging out with. I have never been arrested, but it certainly is not because I didn't ever need to be. As my son grows up, I just hope and pray he makes better decisions than I did. Am I the only one, or do some of you think back and think, d**n that was dumb? BTW...I would like to add...I never sipped a drink of alcohol till I was over 21 and in college.
  6. My square would be pretty small.
  7. So many variables. I catch them on green, blue, black, watermelon, red, white, etc. on soft plastics. Crankbaits, I catch them on chart, red, chrome, blue, etc. Each body of water is different and there is literally no rule to go by. BTW, same goes for spinnerbaits, frogs, chatterbaits, etc. IMO you need to know the body of water. It's hard for one person who fishes in Michigan to tell someone who fishes in Texas what they need to be doing.
  8. The turkeys went in the brine about noon today. We decided to do 3 breasts instead of two whole turkeys. Going to take them out about 3 or so tomorrow afternoon and pat dry. I will let them rest a few hours and inject them with a simple butter/broth combo. I will wrap them and put them in the cooler till Wed morning and fire the smoker up. Going to season them with a 4:2:1 (salt, garlic, pepper) blend and let them sit for a few hours. Then on the smoker they go. I plan to monitor the temp and when they reach about 150 I am going to wrap them in foil and add butter to the foil. When they get to 165, I will pull them and let them rest a while. I will then carve them and put them in foil pans. I plan to take them to her house Thursday morning to put in the roaster oven. Hoping for the best.
  9. Yep! Georgia looks like the real deal though. SEC champion wins it all IMO.
  10. She's flying high again. Went with a different strategy. I had a buddy come over and I was telling him my plan. We got out there to messing with it and were able to get it to twist in the PVC. Couldn't get it to come out though. He does siding for a living so his truck has a ladder rack on it. He parked his truck right next to the pole and we took a long rope and wrapped it around the pole under the cleat. We took the two ends and wrapped them over the ladder rack and pulled down. That was it, busted loose and came right out. All is well in the world.
  11. What seasoning are you guys using? I think I'm going salt and pepper out of a grinder and maybe a little bit of garlic powder. Going to smoke them in the Traeger.
  12. Thanks guys! I'm doing the turkey, mac and cheese, deviled eggs and a cherry cheesecake. My mom is getting to the point where she is ready for some help. She always refused because she has just always done it all but I think she is finally getting tired of doing it all.
  13. Will do. I have an idea. I'm going to take a 2x4 and cut two 3' pieces. Then I am going to get some lag bolts about 8" or so. Measure the pole and drill holes in the 2x4's just a bit bigger than the pole. Put a board on each side and tighten the nuts down as tight as I can get them. Plan on putting these 6" or so off the ground. Hopefully this will allow me to twist the pole and break it loose. Then I plan to take 2 floor jacks and place them on each side of the pole on the boards and see if I can jack it out that way.
  14. I've only used liquid so that is what I am going with this year.
  15. Thanks guys! Lots of good suggestions. I'm off all week so my goal is to get the flag flying.
  16. My fault, I got the weight wrong. That being said, the day .4, .6 or .8 oz has an impact on my fishing, I will hang it up. I do a LOT of 12 oz curls, so those weights don't really mean much to me.
  17. Ten years ago I could have done it......now, not so much.
  18. Well, my Mom asked if I would cook the turkey this year for Thanksgiving. I LOVE to cook, but this is kind of stressful. I will be cooking for about 30 people, maybe more if we get some stragglers. My plan is to do 2 turkeys. I am going to brine them starting Monday. I plan to brine them for 24 hours and then inject them on Tuesday and put the rub on them. I will smoke them Wednesday and get them ready to be put in the roaster oven early Thursday morning to be ready by noon. Here is my question. Would you inject them with just a regular broth/butter combo or would you go with a garlic or cajun injection? I don't want to ruin our family Thanksgiving, but I want to make something good. Like I said, I'm kind of stressed about it. LOL
  19. Good idea! Had not thought of that. It would help with leverage as well. I feel like I'm going to get a hernia every time I try to pull it out.
  20. I didn't weigh mine. Shimano lists them as 7.1. The day .7 oz becomes an issue will be the day I just quit fishing.
  21. My mom refuses to eat fish. She was raised dirt poor. Her Dad fed her and her 3 brothers and sister anything he caught or anything he killed or whatever they grew in the garden. They ate bass, crappie, perch, deer, squirrels, quail, etc. and she refuses to eat it now. I'm honestly not sure if she just got tired of it, or it brings back memories of being so poor. BTW, this was in the 70's when most people weren't still living off the land. I started eating bass when I was in college and it was a 3 or 4 night a week meal and I loved it. Then when I was about 24 I started Crappie fishing and started eating it and I was blown away at how good it was. The local lake was on fire for Crappie for about 3 years and I loved it. Then the state came in and implemented new limits and the lake went to crap. I haven't had fish in a long time but this thread makes me want to go out and catch some dinner.
