Someone on another site was asking about a natural Earthworm color. I took it as a good challenge and tried playing with some color combos. Here is pumpkin and white and the top lam is bears chameleon (violet to brown color changing) The top is a bright translucent violet when held to the light. Here is pumpkin and whit and the top lam is pumpkin and a little black. Too dark I think. And here is the best. Pumpkin and white and top lam is pumpkin and white with a little extra pumpkin and a little violet. Sorry I dont have the exact formula as they were only 2 oz batches and I was playin around.

Try translucent (seethrough) baits.

They are similar to the popular and productive Zoom Trick worm. Sometimes less is better. Try it on a Shakey head

Was discussing Red baits in the spring and decided to make a black and red 1/4 oz jig and poured some red with red and black flake craw trailers. Made a black and blue with electric blue craw trailer too.

We have all heard how well red/orange rattle traps work in the spring. What about other red baits? I like an LC Pointer 100 in the cool early spring. I see they make a red version. I also like a 1.5 squarebill and was thinking of trying a red one. And what about soft plastics? Or is this just a reaction strike thing? How about a red jig and red craw trailer? Red spinnerbait or red blade? I heard it may be because Craws tend to be redder in the spring. What if there are no/very few craws in a lake? Does it really make a difference? What are your thoughts or experiences?

From pics, the 3" looks like it would be great on a drop shot.

Are you looking for household items to make soft plastic more durable? If so I can not help you. Do you currently make your own plastic baits and know how to and the safety precautions? I have a comercially made additive that makes plastic baits much more durable and also softer. It also makes them sink like salt does in a Senko. Let me know if I can help you out.

This is my first winter I really spent time fishing. In January water was still 45-46 and I caught fish deep (30') on a drop shot, and on sunny days could catch them shallow 3-4' on a light 1/8 oz jig, senko, 1.5 squarebill, or suspending jerk. Lately water is 41-42 and I cant catch anything. I guess that few degrees make a huge difference

Got my STX from Ebay today. I got the Black Diamond color and it looks good and flashy. I took pliers and pulled on the hooks as hard as I could and they held fine. Hooks seem sharp enough for now at least.

If you need to add a weight ist not a Senko type stick bait. Not sayin its a bad bait but its basically just a worm.

All depends what you are looking for. Very few baits are hand poured anymore since hand injection was developed. Hand poured/injected baits are not neccesarily softer. It all depends what plastic is used. Most people use medium which is a good mix of flexibility and durability. This medium is similar to what the big bait companies mass produced baits are. Soft plastic can be used for more action but durability suffers. Many companies add salt to baits. To me this is just a cheap filler and makes the bait weak so you buy more. If you find a good custom bait company they will custom make baits to exaxtly what you want. Custom colors and glitters for example. Different kinds of scents cooked in. Different fall rates on stick baits, etc. There are also different molds that may not be available from name brand companies. There actually is a new additive out that replaces salt in Senko type sticks (salt is what makes Senkos sink but also makes them tear easy). It makes the baits softer and more durable but they weigh the same and sink and wiggle are identical. I have caught over 50 bass on a stick made with this new plastic Alot of people fish trick worms and flukes weightless. Try having some made with the weighted Senko formula. They work awesome.
