  1. Both... maybe I'm weird.. I dont tournament fish much any more but when I go fishing, I have the goal in mind of 12lbs in a half day (3-4) hours and 20 lbs in a whole day.. I want to get on quality fish... I want numbers... but numbers of 2.5 -4 lb fish. If I get find those guys then, i feel like I didnt what I came to do. On the bright side, when I fish with that mentality, like I'm scouting for areas of good sized bass, but decent numbers, I feel like I can enter any tourney around here when I feel like it. But again, maybe I'm weird.
  2. I know I already commented once, but I watched it, again to show my son, and he added that her hook sets were FLAWLESS. Mrs.Ajay straight up put on a clinic how to set the hook, and mind you, sitting down.

Thanks man. Awesome. Hopefully, the Pike will take it easy on you. I'm gonna try the rat again when I make it back out...been raining like crazy since Sunday night and no sign of stopping till the weekend. I've thrown the 40 on a powell 735 (heavy) with 50lb braid, not alot of luck yet.

@A-Jay, what was the rod and reel set up you used in the video? Was it a 30 sized rat or a 40?
  5. Looks like Mrs.Ajay, was putting a whooping on you with the stick bait for a minute! Glad yall had a good time together.
  6. What does this have to do with the knot breaking at the lure on the hook set? He said its breaking off at the hook, the line/leader knot shouldnt have any thing to do with it. My guess is, it's your knot. Lubricate it well and cinch it down easy. You dont have to pull on it.
  7. You will like it.. i like it for heavy t rigs too. It's a stiff rod 3/8 -1/2 is the sweet spot. A 3/8 jig with a rage bug loads pretty good. Good hook sets, especially with braid. Let us know what you think when it gets in. I think Catt has one too. I have used it for soft swimbaits on 1/4 oz beast hook, and it did great.
  8. AWESOME JOB MEN! I love it when my.little.man gets a bigger fish than me! We need a love button on here just for photos like those! I'm soooo happy for yall.
  9. I liked the Rick clunn power fishing rods. Still have one. I use it still every now and then... but it dont have nothing on the endurance rods or the tatulas I have
  10. Those football head will be fine... 8/0 is bigger than what I use...but I'm sure it will be fine. I like fishing big worms on a football head especially on rocky banks, ledges, or any kinda offshore points or structures. Good night time bait too!
  11. Just now watching... excellent video. Taka has been one of my favorites for a long time. Good job James
  12. Only took a month to take our advice? I think you came away with some quality gear buddy
  13. Motor oil is deadly is clear water. I've been close to breaking my p.b. a handful of times with a motor oil color or similar.
  14. Is shooter something you would use for a jig/heavy t rig/ or even a straight floro punching rig that can be swapped out for carolina rigs ... I want to try it but its pricey...I'm sure it's good tho... I've said I'm gonna give shooter or tatua a fair shake
  15. I dont fish for them either. We just dont have them here.. but based on their weights, I would think a heavy or medium heavy or maybe a light swimbait bass rod will do the trick. Alot of guys on here are down in Florida catching them on bass gear. 400 is a dang budget for a rod. Can you tell us what lures you are using or lure you see yourself using to catch them.. with that kinda budget, as long as you have a clear vision of what you want to throw, a custom rod would be a good option. Mike @Delaware Valley Tackle could build one.
  16. Typically my reels are set fairly low on breaks and I just use my thumb. A new reel, I'll set the breaks half way. But it wasnt always easy for me, I had to learn the hard way and ease my self off the breaks. When its windy, I'll turn the external breaks up a hair if needed. For me however teaching my son and my godson, how to fish It was more about how to make an accurate cast and loading the rod up with correct weight for the rod. Once my 10 year learned how to cast with out his lure crashing twenty feet in front of him, using his thumb came more naturally. For him with light lures, he was over compensating on the motion of casting to make up for the lack of his top tip not loading up well, and it was a disaster. Little tide bits to think about... Me - minimal to half on breaks, loose tension My son- loose tension, mid to high on breaks helps him. But .
  17. Threads like this make me miss SirSnookAlot on BR. That guy would target fish for anything and everything and did not care as long as he was getting a line wet. He just loved targeting all different species and was pretty good at it all. We would see pics of several species every week! I personal enjoy striper fishing and crappie fishing. I'll go catfishing too.. mostly for me is targeting bass, but if I cant find em, I'll target what Evers biting. Friday for example, I couldnt get many bites, but caught a nice 27" inch pickerel on a Jackhammer, and stayed on the pickrel pattern for most of the day. I landed 4, but probably missed a dozen and got broken off a couple times. But it was worth it because they we quality sized fish..and those toothy guys put up a fight.
  18. I dont use it much when I'm on my boat, I just dont need it. But I do have a tactical fanny pack bought a long time ago. I conceal carry in it as well as my.truck keys, phone etc. I like it when I'm hiking or pond fishing. Its a little more comfy than holster and my ruger lc9 is dang near weightless in it. Lol
  19. Powell endurance 723c Lews Tournament pro. 50lb Daiwa J Braid with Sniper FC 12lb Weightless to 1/4 tungsten bullet 4/0 Ewg Will also throw a 3/16 shakey head jig Powell Endurance 683c Daiwa Pixy Liberto 30 lb Daiwa braid, 12 lb sniper fc Use this mainly for the shakey head, I love this set up to skip it under docks and trees - My sons rig Daiwa Xt 7'0 MH 13 Origin C reel 50lb J Braid, 15lb Assassin FC Weightless up to 1/4 ox with 4/0 My son only has 3 rods. I put his up here as an illustration, that it doesnt have to be a super specific rod to pull this off. He does it well with his 7'0 MH.
  20. If you can't find em, call Mike @Siebert Outdoors to replicate it
  21. You are in our thoughts
  22. Heck yeah guys. Bass had lockjaw yesterday but I did catch 4 chain pickrels on the jackhammer, 1 walleye on a jerkbait, a 1 catfish on a jig. Multi species day for me as well.
