  1. Almost a forgotten lure here... I Texas rig them just to mix it up. I like the larger tubes. But I'll take a small tube and skip it under docks... not alot of guys down here throw them, so it's something different
  2. A MH can do the job. If you are strapped for cash and need a do it all rod, either find a decent MH rod, daiwas run heavier than they say, or get a heavy with soft tip that you can use for other applications. I have a dedicated frog/heavy top water rod, that I have grabbed in a pinch for jigs or HEAVY T RIGS FOR PUNCHIN.
  3. It could be a case that the bass numbers are down due to a abundance of bream.
  4. Like anything else that has a vibrating lip or blade on it, tends to hit grass, but the scrounger to me, is less effected by it than a chatter bait. If its HEAVY HYDRILLA, then prob the wrong bait anyways, but It does ok in sparse pond weed, water willow, sparse milfoil and such. In submerged vegetation, I like to just go over the top of it. If I have to get down in it, I personally might use something weedless like a soft swimmer... that's just my opinion and I'm wrong very often.
  5. I dont know the science behind it, but I like it for long bombing casts for my swimbait rods. All my striper and inshore gear has longer handles. Some guys like it for punching rods, I dont really care for it, just seems to get in my way cuz I'm fast pitching to Mats. I'm sure someone will comment and give the science behind it. I do not like really long handles on topwater rods...gets in my way. If I ever get to have custom rods made, I'll be sure to have an average length on a punching or heavy jig rod, and really short handle on a jb rod. Most rod companies now aren't doing a bad job catering to this.
  6. Amen guys! Light, dark, and green.. and I like ones with a little color on the belly.
  7. I think you can certainly use the rod. But if you wanted a fast action, go back and exchange it..
  8. My 6,10 tatula has been getting A lot of work too...mainly moving and top water baits for me tho. Pretty much been throwing kvd wake baits and plopper 110s on it for past couple weeks. A very versatile rod. It's a shame cuz it's an excellent bottom contact rod, but I've those covered already ? glad you like your new rod
  9. A very underrated and probably under used swim jig. Love them in stained water. Prob gonna dig some out since we are flooded right now and both lakes are like chocolate milk back in the creeks
  10. Sweet...once work picks back up, I'm definatly eyeballing the diablo and fmj rods from megabass... but we shall see. I hear nothing but good things about them.
  11. Almost 15 years or so ago I had a rig I called the jig worm. I would buy long shank jig hooks from Walmart in 1/8 oz and put a trick worm on it. My logic at the time was to present the worm standing up and work it in the target zone longer than a regular t rig. It was the best kept secret I had....until I opened a fishing magazine and saw that it was called the shakey head and all the pros were doing it. So much for my "jig worm"
  12. Yes sir... recently made some spring gear purchases and was very surprised. Picked up the 7'1 Heavy Tatula rod and Wow! Bought it as a back up and wow, I use it all the time now. I still like my 744 DX rod for jigs, but that Tat was a great surprise. Fairly light, a little stiff but great for big topwater baits and for heavy t rigs. I also picked up 3, 13 Origin C reels, for 55 bucks each (they run 100) it's not my brand and never used them. it was a great deal and I figured if I didn't like them I can make my money back. 2 of them went to my son, the other is on my 7'1 heavy tat. I was more than surprised, actually impressed. Good reels at their price point. Nothing fancy about them at all, just good work horse reels and they dont feel cheap. Pretty smooth too. The daiwa xt 7'MH I got for my son was also a pleasant surprise. Very good rod for 80 bucks. We are both pleased with it. Nothing Daiwa makes should surprise me anymore....but it does. The quality of gear at mid and low price points is wayyyyy better than it was 15 years ago. (That just my opinion)
  13. I'm gonna run my minnkota till it breaks. I've been blessed to have very little issues, other than replacing the prob twice
  14. I responded to another thread asking if what are your go to set ups and it was hard to answer because I honestly use whatever is working. However I do have 2 duplicate set ups that I use alot! the difference is one has braid and a leader, the other is straight floro. I seen a well known bass fisherman here in the area go to local tackle spot one time and bought 3 identical Vertias 2.0 crankin rods with 3 Idenitcal lews speed spool reels. Anyone else here have 2 or more of the same rod and reel rigs on their boats? Powell 723 & lews tournament pro 7:1 for me. I carry 2 and use them for alot of different lures.
  15. Ah man, hard to answer. It changes every few trips. Just depends in what a working for me at the time. It could be any one of 7 or 8 rods that steal the show on a given day. If I had to bite on this thread for the fun of it, I'll name a rod and reel set up that I have 2 of because of its versatility. Powell Endurance 723c, Lews tournament pro 7:1 reel, 1 set up has 50 lb Braid & 12 lb Sniper, the other has 16 lb Sniper. Spinnerbaits, chatter baits, 1/4 oz t rigs, lipless cranks, softswimbaits, shakey heads, even squarebilla and some topwaters.
  16. I dont tourney fish any more but my trolling motor is 10 years old....i keep a spare prop in the boat.
  17. I'm still using a small supply of Northstar customs flip & swims.... great jigs. Kietech, skinny dipper, or rage on the back. Idk what they call it but its green pumpkin and orange.
  18. I plan on upgrading my.line up with used megabass stuff through the Asian rabbit hole that is our internet
  19. That's what I'm saying... the shock is.going to the weakest point.... I dont ...no many of of our brothers, have this problem. I get that you want to reduce r how.many weak points you have, but in this case it's obviously his terminal knot.
  20. Gonna hurt some feelings, I would be put 100$ daiwa products or Shimano products up against anything bps.... today 2020, I have zero confidence in anything they brand and put out. I'll buy an aird x or slx, before I touch their stuff. I don't trust it I could be and might be wrong, but that's ok.
  21. I hear ya big money...can I borrow a dollar? Jk... good looking bait.
  22. I'm with Tom, (yet again...the man knows his stuff) you do not have to cross their eyes on a hook set with a good fc. FC is known for not having impact strength. I like the stiffness of Fc, I like the sensitivity it brings. I'll stay with it. Using the improved clinch not I have not broken off at the hook more than I few times in several years...unless it was negligence on my part. I'm not posting this to say my knot is the best...my point is, I know what I'm getting into with FC line... if.my knot does not work I'll change knots or change back to mono. There have been times I've been hung and had to really try...and I mean try HARD to break off..and it breaks off at the leader or bends the hook. The problem is your knot and in the impact. Maybe you need to dial it down...or find a knot that can endure the impact.. or switch back to mono. But i cant be but so wrong... most of us do not have a consistent problem with it. I'd slow the knot tying process down and dont force it down.. clinch it down with ease and lubrication.
  23. That's a cool knot... improved clinch still going strong for me..... I use it for almost everything....
  24. Can you strip the line off and break it down carefully and look at it? It may be something simple.
