Thanks man. You spawned the idea. That one is 3/8 and I also made a 1/4 and two in 1/2. Here's one of the 1/2 I made. Same exact skirt. Next time I'm there I'm going to spend some time digging through all the boxes of skirt rubber he has and try to find more of a powder blue. I also found an orange later that looks like the one you used. It's not as bright and has some brown/green tones to it.

I've caught some fish on spinnerbaits I've made there and even a buzzbait. It is a good feeling.

So thanks to Rockchalks post I was bored at my local shop today and figured I'd try to make a bluegill style swim jig. He needed some heads poured so I did it for him and he always lets me make a few of whatever I pour for my time. I think it came out pretty decent for my first attempt.

I believe I've came up with something that'll work using A-Jay's tip and my own idea. I'll have to see it in the water before I can be 100% sure about it though. I used 24g wire and wrapped it around the hook shank of a 2/0 finesse wide gap hook. Then made a second pass using small diameter solder for electronics. I used a clear nail polish to seal it all up from the water and hopefully protect it from pulling loose. Not the prettiest but it'll have to do I guess until I find the weighted ones.

It's not in a spot that will affect the line. You may feel it while thumbing the spool on a cast but I'm not aware of how you cast either.

I like the do it mold design I just wish I could find a stout hook to use with it. I was thinking about the lead tape you use in golf. I could probably work with that. I'm gonna try the solder trick when I get home from work to see what I can create. Thanks for the idea.

I agree but when it comes to flipping heavy cover we aren't using 4-8lb test. If we were talking about drop shoting for smallies then I'm with you 100%. My above reply was aimed at heavy cover scenarios. I'm not going to play a frog fish in pads. I'm gonna sail him in so he doesn't get hung up.

Yes a weighted version of the finesse wide gap would be awesome. I've seen them online from people who made them on their own. I either have to find a maker or try to create something the next time I'm down at the shop. These seem perfect for what I'm looking for.

Personally I'd be using a variant of green pumpkin or watermelon for a trailer. As for what,well your options are endless. Single or double tail grub. Part of a swim senko. Havoc subwoofer or a paddle tail swim bait. A craw style trailer. The list goes on and on.

I have the finesse wide gap,weedless wacky and the Vmc hook with the wire weed guard. If gammy would just make a weighted version I'd be set. Francho those are the ones I'm pouring too.

Just looking for a few opinions from my fellow angling friends on BR. I make my own at my local tackle shop but they're very light wire hooks with the round ball style head on them. I make them with the light wire guard and without. I tend to lose some fish when the hook straightens out when I'm fishing around pads. I'm looking for a heavier wire hook that'll let me horse the fish out. I'm thinking about trying the Falcon K wacky hooks since they have them in all types. Anyone use these or have another recommendation?

Braid and a hard hook set will not break a rod unless it's previously damaged or blemed from the factory.

Excuse my French but screw that lol. I fish because I enjoy it but I enjoy it even more when I catch a big bass and that's where I get my fight from. If it can be skied to the boat or bank it's not big enough. I've never played a fish in my life. That includes my Pb. Get it in ASAP and get back in the water.

Seems to me you've had to already done some sort of damage to the rod either by hitting it off something or whatnot. Explain the guys who punch on big O all day landing 5-10lb fish with braid and drags locked down. Not a single broken rod. Personally I've set the hook on multiple occasions that wasn't a fish and never broken a rod. I ended up straightening my hook out before the line breaks trying to pull it loose. 4/5ot gammy ewg superline. Saying that braid breaks rods is false.

I'm just very sarcastic and have a lot of smart a**ed remarks. Also a very dry sense of humor that most don't find funny. I'm very opinionated and don't back down easily when someone wants to argue. I go out of my way for friends and family and would do anything for them. But I've been referred to as a dick on more then 1 occasion by these friends. It's just my personality and they all know that. They've learned to accept it over the years. As for the respect part,well I'm very respectful of others weather we've just met or not. Now if you disrespect me or give me a reason not to show you respect then that's not my fault. You did that on your own. Until then you get my respect though.

That's insane. We got hit by a storm while doing a stripper trip on the Chesapeake Bay. Nothing like the pics above but I was scared for sure. Maybe 6ft waves I'd guess.
