There is 1 bearing and 1 plastic bushing in each knob. So you can replace the bushing with a bearing. Also the worm gear has 2 plastic bushings supporting it. You need a total of 4 bearings that are 4x7x2.5 I picked mine up online for $5.40 shipped

You are going to hear a lot of different 'opinions' on what is the best choice. If you can, take your reel/s and mount them on some rods. See what feels good to you. Just because someone else likes it, doesn't mean you will. The $100 rod catergory is pretty competitive. Yeah I did that and the knobs right away. The daiwa zillion has a bushing also. At $300 I don't see why they can't use a 20 cent bearing on it. Anyhow they say it makes the reel smoother on the retrieve when under load. As for being able to tell by just playing around. Well I can't but I know a bearing will outlast a piece of plastic and that's why I did it. Plus for $5 I got all 4 bearings. So why not replace the plastic parts while I had it apart.

Yeah I added 1 more to each knob and 2 to the worm drive along with the 3 boca os for the spool.

I think you might be talking about the T3 Ballistic and that T wing system. There was a situation with braid grooving the metal but it was later figured out that it was the rods spiral guides.

I have a tatula r and have owned a bunch of Lews reels including the one in question. It's really a toss up for me. They both weigh the same. The Lews is easier to palm since it's a smaller frame but the tatula isn't awkward to me either. Daiwas magforce braking is very efficient but the Lews has dual brakes. It's kinda nice because you can just set it and forget about it. Then use the mag for small changes. Lews has a U shaped spool but I prefer flat spools. The line lays nicer with the tws on the daiwa and flat spool. The tatula doesn't have a bearing supported worm gear and just 1 bearing in each handle. You can add those 3 bearings for about $5 though. You'll be happy with either reel. Take your rod and mount both reels and see which one feels the best to you in hand.

I'm not a tournament angler either except for a local club which has maybe 50 boats tops. Very small compared to a Tx club that has 150 boats or more. I pay cash for all my gear. I don't own a credit card. Also the zillion is a $200 used reel which is not much more then a curado,chronarch,Lews TP or similar. It's also a proven workhorse reel that will last years and years. Plus it' can be upgraded if you choose to do so. Honestly it's right about what most leisure fisherman spend on a reel.

Lightning rod shock was my first casting rod. I sold it to a friend after a year of use and it's still being used by him years later. It can be bought at Walmart and if it ever breaks just exchange it there free of charge and no questions asked.

I had it done to two rods that were 6'8ish so they'd be 7' You couldn't even tell since the joint was covered by the rear grip. Mike at DVT is a rod builder and a sponsor. Check with him about the cost.

I have some higher end Daiwas and they do the same thing. As soon as it's under any type of load,it goes away. It won't hurt anything at all. Also be sure to flush and re oil your 3 factory bearings. It wakes the reel up.

When punching you are in some heavy cover. A longer rod allows you to get more leverage on the hook set and also to horse the fish out of the slop. In my opinion the $100 rod catergory isn't going to get you a lot of refinement. I will say that I had an *** black 7'3 H that was a pretty light rod and is rated up to 1.5oz I bought it to flip with but the trigger bothered me and it got turned into a frog rod and then traded. I stuck one of those rubber chair leg protectors with some washers in it over the butt end and it balances out my Jadewood nicely. Yes it's a bit heavier overall but in the hand I don't notice it because it's not tip heavy anymore. Just a thought for you there. Will a shorter rod work,yes but it's not optimal.

I can't speak on anything Dobyns since I don't own one. They have a huge following though and nobody has anything bad to say about them. I do own a few Powell's. 2 of them being the 723. No matter what reel I put on it,it always balances right at the nut on the reel seat or very very close. I will say that the 714 would be a better jig rod in deeper water and for heavier jigs since it goes up to 1oz. The 725 is a good choice too if you aren't throwing under 3/8 jigs. The 723 has a max of 3/4oz and with a 1/2 jig and a trailer you're right at it.

I'll second the Jadewood 7'0 crankbait rod. Man that thing is light and the balance point is right at/before the nut on the reel seat. Makes it feel like you are holding nothing. For $99 it's hard to beat it.

I have a 7'6 Veritas I bought to pair with my zillion. Which is a heavier reel by today's standards. It's still tip heavy. I recently bought a 7'6 Denali Jadewood to use instead. Still tip heavy with a tatula or zillion mounted on it.
