Daiwa uses different spool materials on a lot of their spools. Even ones that seem identical. Take the Steez SV103 and the SV103 'zillion' for example. Both use the same spool except one is G1 and the other A7075. The Steez spool is a touch lighter and the material is supposed to be stronger. As far as SV spools go, it's all in the inductor and spring, or air brake as they call it. The inductor comes out and also twists. Some have different length inductors and also some of them seem to be a little thinner too. Other Daiwa spools it just moves in and out. With any of their aftermarket spools like the Zpi,RCS,hlc,tdz R+,1st gen Steez 103 and the 1st gen Steez 100, and so on. It's all a combination of the inductor and spring. The taper of it and length all play a part in the braking. You can change the braking profile of any spool by messing with the inductor spring. Zpi spools have a fixed inductor so the braking is always the same. Makes a great pitching or skipping spool. I swap all my sv spool inductor springs out for a stiffer one. It's fixes the issue with stuck inductors and also really wakes the spool up since in stock form it's meant to be very controlled. There's also the magnet in the sideplate. Some reels seem to have a stronger magnet in it though not totally confirmed I don't think. That's why you can swap 2 different sv spools into the same reel and they'll both perform differently. Yeah, but I'll never take it apart. I've owned other 2pc jdm rods and once they're together you would never know. For some reason that specific rod line is all 2pc.

Mess around with the rod and see if it feels like it's too much for a smaller 3/8 crank. The ratings suggest it's not a good choice but ratings are just suggested guidelines. I throw my 1.5 squarebills and bandit 300's 'both 3/8oz' on a mh/f. Bandit 200's I use a medium mod/fast since they only weigh 8 grams and the taper allows for better distance.

I had the 713 Recon 2 and it worked for what you're asking.

That is correct. It's why the balance point doesn't change 'by more than 1/4 inch' on my rod with 5oz or 8oz reel.

A well balanced rod with no reel doesn't change too much when you add a reel to it. Yes, you can use a heavier reel to help get the balance to where you like it. I and others often do it. For example my 7'2 xh balances great with a 5.5oz steez 'about 3/4 the way up the foregrip' and just the same with 7oz+ monoblock. The balance point changes by about 1/4"

I can't speak for the 735. I only tested the 705 cranking rod in the Fury line. I can say that Dobyns are rated 1 power heavier than what they fish like. So their 4 power 'heavy' fished like a medium heavy. I'm sure someone who owns a 735 can chime in. Maybe @iabass8 has something to say.

You also have to account for the hype train. Some people get sucked in by it.

Then buy the rod that will cover the majority of what you want to use it for and then save for another rod to cover the rest of it. You aren't going to be able to get a rod to throw 1.5oz swimbaits and frogs on then turn around and tie on a 1.5 squarebill crank. It doesn't work like that. Yes, you can use 1 rod for multiple techniques but those techniques can't be on opposite ends of the spectrum. Lures ratings are just guidelines and don't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. They're simply suggestions. Some rods can throw heavier baits than what the ratings suggest and some can't. Some rods are labeled as a medium heavy and fish like a heavy. The original veritas is a good example of that. Some rods are labeled as a heavy and fish like a medium heavy. The falcon bucoo micro 'pitchin stick' is a good example of that. You already have 2 rods to use for other techniques so I'm not sure why you're looking for 1 to do too many things. Use the ones you have and fill in the blanks with the 3rd rod. As they say... Simply put, you're asking too much from 1 rod.

Those places mark up the reel x percentage over the wholesale price. The people on eBay are selling them for just a bit over cost. A lot less profit per reel but if they sell 200 it makes up for it.

I never went down to 1/8oz but one of my always tied on rigs is a 3/16 tungsten weight and a rage craw using a 3/0 ewg hook. My 704 had no problems with it. Dobyns runs a power light so even though the 704 is labeled as a heavy it fishes like a medium heavy. It also has a nice tip section. The 703 has a nice to also but fishes like a medium. It would work better for the 1/8oz but the 704 is better for everything else you mentioned.

Just make sure it's a 4 power. Their 3 power is not enough rod for a 3/8oz weight plus plastic and hook.

Good looking reel but you can definitely tell they stole the styling from a curado 201.

Yes, with all else being equal it should have a softer tip but there are other things that can play a part like the blanks diameter. If the longer rod has a thicker blank than it won't be as forgiving as the shorter rod with a thinner blank. If my memory serves me right.

Their 4 power 'heavy' fishes like a true medium heavy. Their 3 power 'medium heavy' fished like a true medium. That's why the buzzbait is a suggested bait to throw. I've owned both a 703 and 733 champion. I can say that they fish different from each other. Just because specs suggest that they are the same doesn't mean they are. Megabass for example has rods that are 'the same' in power and action but vary by 3 inches and they are totally different rods. SV103 is based off the og zillion. It's a good bit bigger than the Alphas SV105. The zillion tws sv would be in between. The SV103 is a great reel though. Both 103 and 105 reels are now being discontinued so grab one soon if you're in the market. TW has already dropped the prices on them.

SV103 and the SV105 reels are now going to be discontinued from Daiwa. It's a dumb move on their part but that's another story. You can get the 103 on eBay for $250ish currently. It's a sleeper of a reel that doesn't get brought up a lot. It's definitely worth looking into. Another option is the zillion sv tws.

723 is true to its power rating and action is very close too. I had the endurance 723 and it's still one of my favorite rods. It will work great for what you're wanting it for.
