The dream is a limited version of an og zillion. It's just got that specialness about it. Definitely a looker. Probably my favorite appearance wise that I own. Spool options are very limited but the stock spool is great. Not so much on lighter stuff though. It's not meant for that. The SV103 is built on the same frame as the dream but with updated sv spool. The 103 for $200 is the best reel you can get for that price right now and it'll be brand new. A used dream in good shape will run you about $300. Market has dropped on them in the past 2yrs. You are asking to compare a $300 reel to a $500 reel. The 103 is not a dream but it's no slouch. You have to ask yourself if you wanna spend $300 or $200. Also if you want newer sv spool technology or older 'still good' mag z technology. The 103 can handle a larger range of bait weights than a dream. Plus it can use any Steez/Tdz/T3/IS spool so you have so many options to make it do whatever you want. If you just want a reel that flat out works for anything then get a SV103. If you want a reel that's limited in production and doesn't do all that well under 3/8oz then get a J dream.

Tackle Supply Depot had some for $219 but I'm not sure what's left of them. The 103 was kind of an unknown gem but now that the word got around and the sales happened they quickly started disappearing.

Definitely very hard not to keep buying them up. It's so much reel for $200. I let my buddy try one of mine for a day and now he sold off 6 1st gen Steez's and bought 6 SV103's in their place.

No, I know who did the paint work. You didn't say it was yours. That's why I said "If you don't own it" at least credit the painter. Since it's yours then it doesn't really matter what pics you use. I just know people who post pics of gear that isn't theirs without asking or giving credit. I'm in a small group of enthusiasts along with Neal on another social media site and that's why I said that. Since I know he's not a fan of not being credited when someone 'not the owner' uses his pics. We had a big post going about it because a former member of that group was doing just that. Using other members pics on his IG account without asking or giving credit. A lot of us have started watermarking our pics now after that whole incident happened. Sorry, it wasn't meant to sound rude if it came off that way. Haha you can have all the righties. I'm sure that's a killer combo though.

If you don't own it, please at least credit Neil with the paint job. Using someone's pics and not giving them credit is kinda crummy.

Poor wording on my part, but for the Steez/Tdz platform their inductors are all the same. It's non tapered and shorter. Thickness is close. Edit - It does appear they're using a different lower inductor block now and that should solve the previous issues. I've noticed that newer sv spools have a white lower block and the older ones are black. None of the newer ones have had sticky inductors like the old ones have.

That's the same inductor they use on all of their current offerings. There's nothing 'sv' about it really except it twists. It's just a ported inductor to shed a little weight. SV brake rotors are not ported and have different lengths which can change the braking characteristics of the spool. I've had one of the shallow bfs spools for over a year now. Worth the money and works pretty good. Quality isn't that of oem offerings but for $45 it's not bad. There's been a few issues with them previously. Mainly with the inductor block under the rotor. Something comes unglued or similar. Basically you end up with a non working spool. Hopefully with the newer versions that's all fixed now. Also don't try to pull a snag loose with your thumb on the spool. It'll bend the axle. Been there done that already.

Plus it's not really a finesse reel. At least not with the stock spool. The spool holds 90 yards of #16 line. That's hardly finesse territory. So why give it a crap single disc drag with a spool that's geared for all purpose use. They should of used a shallower spool and then it would make sense with the drag. It also feels like it's made by Tonka with the use of all the zaion on that reel. It's the one Jdm Daiwa I'd pass on.

SS SV stinks in comparison to the SV103 or Alphas SV '105' It's very overbraked and also has a single disc drag stack that is pretty dang weak. That reel is somewhat of a flop. Zillion SV TW uses the same size spool as the SV103 so it has just as many spool options. For the OP what do you want from the reel? The 105 has an 80mm handle which I don't prefer so there's more money if you prefer a longer handle. It doesn't hold as much line as the 103. The 103 is a bit heavier but is a great all around reel. Longer handle and a bit more line capacity. I own them both and it would be tough for me to choose a favorite since they both have their place in my lineup. For an all purpose do everything work horse reel I'd pick a 103 though. I can't say anything about the new CT SV because I don't know anyone who's had any decent amount of time using one yet. I'm sure it'll be a good one though and if I only had $200 to spend full retail I'd go that route.

I was the same at one point. I was into cars and once I sold it I no longer had anything to tinker with. For me this kinda takes its place. Plus it keeps me from buying more reels 'to a point' I like to try out as many as I can. So it's a constant buy/sell but the ones I do hold onto I then get to make into my own. With Daiwa it's endless with all the options available. All the spools,handles,knobs,dress up parts, and ect. Then there's the stuff no one will ever see. Like putting an Alphas outer mag ring into a Megabass Zonda to improve performance. Or swapping out the brake dial for one from a Steez because it looks better. It's a very slippery slope!
