Discarded Soft Plastics
Raider Nation Put them on her pillow or just under the covers. You might get beat up a little so stand back. I put mine in a plastic bag. When I get home if I cant repair them they go in the garbage.

What is ur favorite reel?
I have a Curado and other Shimano's, more than one Daiwa, a Pflueger or two, some BPS', a Quantum or two. Frankly I always like a new reel when I get it and continue to like it as time moves along but not appreciately better or more than my older models. Usually I buy a new reel because of newer features that are seem to be improved but I still use the older reels and never have the urge to replace them all with the newest purchase. My favorite reel of all time ws an el cheapo BPS that I bought as a spare for a boat-in trip into Ontario. After well over 20 years the el-cheapo crapped out but I have several other reels that I am searching for parts to scavenge so I can get the old favorite functioal again. If I don't have the old job functional by ice out we will need to hold a burial service. This reel is not special in any feature but it is small and fits my hand and fishing to a tee. My axion is pretty simple. Put the reel on the rod you in-tend for its use. If it's comfortable and in your price range buy it.

Never Owned A Boat Questions.....
I looked at the boat. If I was looking for a fishing boat I would have absolutely no interest. No trolling motor, much space taken up by windsheid etc. This might be an okay runnabout or a middle of the road trolling craft. but as a fishing boat it would be waaay down on my list.r.

Is This Normal?
By cast control I mean the round knob usually found under the star drag. Put a bait or weight on your line. Hold thr rod horizontal. Push the thumb bar and take your finger off the spool. Loosen the cast control knob (usuall counter clockwise) and at some point the bait should start to fall. Normal adjustment is when the bait his the ground the spool stops turning. I can't be sure of your reel but I've never seen a cast control with numbers.

Reel Cleaning
Be sure that what ever you spray is compatible with plastic. For example some (not me) used the original gun scrub. Not good as it got right after the plastic parts. I now use reel scrub which has worked fine. I don't do a full breakdown of my baitcasters. I pull the bearing, clean and relube, clean and lube the drag, clean and lightly grease the gears. Beyond that I send the reels to a pro. I do give the level wind screw a shot of lube every day. This is a throw back to a failure I had longer ago than I will admit. I do give the rotating bearings a drop of oil from time to time during the summer. I don't add oil to the antireverse roller bearing.

How tight is the cast control?

Boating Law?
Different laws from state to state. Regardless of the law it is dangerous to sit in either the front or rear above no wake speed.

Buying A Used Boat
Go to the nearest shop or shops that specialize in fishing boats. Start looking now because those with new boats on order will be wanting to unload their old craft. several years ago I bought my first fiberglass bass boat used. It had a 115Merc, MG, TM, a decent trailer and 2 deck mounted flashers. I put a lot of soap. water and elbow grease into that boat. i did some routine maintenance, replaced a prop that threw a cracked blade and sold it 6 years later for what I paid for it. My sale was helped big time by the increase in cost of new boats. Thanks for your service to all of us!

What Is The Best Way To Kill A Fish?
I smack them on top of and just behind the head. This is really more for having them still while I filet and for me on a personally basis, although I agree that they don't have the nerve perceptors to help them feel pain. Watch that you don't have a thumb under the fish. If you do you'll know why I mention this. Although I rarely clean a fish at home I have fileted many while on week or longer fishing trips and the head works just fine. I think a piece of broom stick might be a little light so I'd probably use a piece of reinforcing rod or something heavier that the broom stick. Most of the lodges I have stayed with have a fish "banger" of some sort in their fish cleaning house. The heavier ones have always worked well for me. This year in New Hampshire it is illegal to have a live fish in your boat unless you are in a registered and sanctioned bass tourney. This was done as an attempt to stop illegal planting. I think this is a bunch of bull. Those who would transplant and stock fish at their own accord will still do it, So the few make it difficult for the many. How many times have you been checked by a warden. I think I have been checked 3 times in literaly thousands of fishing trips.

How To Get Bearing Sheied Retainers Off.
I'm with J Francho on the cleaning and not spin drying. Blow drying with compressed air for computer cleaning might be ok but air from a compressor has moisture and moisture is a big enemy of bearings. Just drynig on a clear paper towel is fine. Big issue is that more than a drop of oil is over kill.

Good Fishing Logs(Journals)?
I'm with Crestliner. After more years of chasing largies and more recently smallies than I care to admit my game plan is pretty nearly the same year after year and is no longer written. Shortly after ice out I hit one of 3 or 4 lakes. And my in head computer says. Early prespawn go to point "A" north end of the lake, cast and burn a spinner bait, no luck slow roll that spinner bait, No luck - switch to a suspending jerk bait - no luck drag a tube. Again no luck - move to that big sand flat again no luck go to a steep drop off and use a dropshot and/or a c-rig. Still no luck - that is why we call it fishing not catching. Repeat on same or different lake then all of a sudden it is whoopee a few or no fish days become, I don't know I lost track at 32 - this won't last all summer so enjoy is as much as possible while you can. Then be content with fewer most of the time.

New At Baitcasting
Like I said handle up for right handed casting with a right hand craqnk reel and if you cast the same rig left handewd handle down.
-
Aluminum Rod
I would guess that rod is real old. My first baitcaster was a 4'6" steel with a hexagonal cross section but my memory of it makes it seem light years more modern than yours. I'd send the picture to BASSMASTER to see if they could identify.

New At Baitcasting
The reason to have the crank pointed up for a right handed caster is to have the correct wrist motion. If you are a righty caster and lefty cranker the handles should be down. When I started there were no left handed cranking bait caster so you either cast with the left hand and cranked righty or you cast righty and switched. Strange but I cast a spinning outfit righty and crank lefty but my mind won't let me do that with a bait caster. I like to lefthand palm my baitcaster during the retrieve so I cast righty and retrieve the same. I often switch the reel from my right hand to my left before the cast is complete so there is no delay. Just thinking about lefthanded cranking a baitcaster is awkward to me!
-
Does Everyone Think They Are Left-Handed
During the retrieve I palm a bait caster in my left hand. Cast righty and switch hands, sometimes before the bait hits the water. No way to palm a spinning reel so I cast righty and crank lefty.

Smallmouth And Bait Size
Many years ago I was fishing on the Chippawa Flowage. In the lodge bar's fish tank there was about a 10" bass, a 6" shiner and about a 4" bullhead. The next day after fishing the shiner's tail was sticking out of the basses mouth. The bartender said the bass would digest the shiner then go to work on the bull head. He said after the bass took the bull head he would replace both the shiner and the bull head and the cycle would start all over. Always with the shiner first.

Tournaments
I have but now don't fish T's. A reasonable number of them is no problem at all but I do think there are too many. Most T guys/gals are just fine but there a few jerks who give the rest a bad name

Which Flouro?
i've never had any problem with break offs with a Palomar knot but then our north east fish are not as heavy as those encountered by our southern friends.

Need Some Advice For Matching Rod And Reel
Exactly like Roadwarrier said. One other tip think about your wrist motion with the reel handles up for an overhand cast. Then regardless of whether you are casting sidearm., overhead or roll casting use the same wrist action. Back handed is the same motion just reversed. This doesn't mean you should not have any arm motion. Being able to loosen the cast control without backlash will add to your distance but you must get your thumb ewducated to prevent to many backlashes. I've been doing this for a looog time and still practice in the driveway when I have a chance waiting for ice out in the spring.

Catching Big Fish Consistently
If you want your ego tamed come to NH. I moved here just before retirement and in that over 10 year span I have not caught a bass over 4 #'s. The lakes I fish either don't have largies or they are not as populous as brownies and frankly I don't target greens bass. That is a bit sad but many brownies from 2 to near 4# a day still make me smile big time. Moving to a location with little cover exept rocks, very little wood and sparse weeds le3ft me little to do with my flipping stick but it is serving well with a Carolina Rig. There are many 5+# bass caught every year but not by me. I almost wish I didn't have that scale on board. I can't make a 3+ a 4 pounder.

Nitro 189
With one child you could have a third seat mount put in the floor between the front and rear deck. Or you could just have one of the others fish with you off the front dect or with your wife off the rear deck. While the fish/ski sounds good I think they are like any other compromise not the best at either. My boats have always been straight fishing but I have hauled skiers and tubers and we had a great time. Kids are now grown and gone and I'm real glad my fishing boat is a fishing boat. I haven't looked up the specs on you model but I'd go with the largest hp motor rated for the boat. With good care and baring accident both motor and boat will last a long time. Mine is garaged (heated) and looks new but is 20+ years now. I only wish it was a bit longer with the lasgest motor according to rating. I think the Nitro's are in general a good value.

Can't Find The Fish
Not sure that this applies to grennies but the Minnesota DNR determined that smallies congregated in closely packed groups and when the group was found they were highly susceptible to over fishing. They established a catch and immediate release rule starting in the fall. I don't recall the date. I have found here in NH that when I find the fall smallies I catch a bunch but I've got to find them first.

Casting At An Opponent!!
I would not find it acceptable under any circumstances to pull in less than several hundred yards a head. I'd pull in behind or go somewhere else. This is regardless whether it is a T or just pleasure fishing. Re throwing at another boat, I have done this but not for many years. You could really hurt someone and I would be sad that I did and you could be charged. Contrary to some seemingly popular opinions you are responsible for your actions. There are a few jerks that just don't care but for the most part those that come to close just don't have a clue. I usually have a camera on board and if the jerks start to play games I get a picture. Here in NH it is headway speed max if you are within 150' of shore, another boat, swim raft, dock, swimmer. Of course this law is broken often but a picture with a boat registration number will do wonders. Treat others as you would wish to be treated works well in all the situations I have experienced.
