How Do You Choose Colors?
Much the same. Water clarity, time of day, cloudy or sunny, water bodies forage and my most important confidence in the bait and color. With all that said my first concern is depth, then action followed by size, shape and then color. And for most every one of the above cases I've had a day, hour or part of either where the opposite of what is considered the best approach works best.

Darwin Award For Reel Maitnence
What DVT said about spinning reels. Spinning reel shafts revolve at such a slow speed that except fot eliminating a bit of looseness I can't understand the need for ball bearings except for marketing reasons. Same with bait casters except for the bearings on the spool shaft and the anti-reverse roller bearing.

What Am I Doing Wrong
Tukahoe Joe is right on with the weting the line. I call it "goobering". The line to line friction really heats up the line and it is especially true with fluoro.

What Am I Doing Wrong
Are you goobering the knot before you cinch it down? If not the friction of line on line weakens the line big time. Personally, I think more so on flouro than mono but it occurs on both.

"faded' Crankbaits >>>
IMHO this is a step in showing that color is not high in the priority list in triggeribg strikes.

Dumb Question About Drag
For spinning gear I set the drag pretty tight and back reel when I need to give line. I started bass fishing long before there were any drags. If the fish pulled you had you thumb on the spooled line and just eased off enough to let the fish pull off some line. Today I set my baitcaster drags pretty light. If I need more pressure I put the thumb down a little harder. I think my thumb reacts better to changing conditions than any mechanical drag.

Ever Watch Lunkerville?
I think is s a good show and maybe a cut above most of the rest. But I don't have any issue with the infomercial part. TV prorams are costly and if the money part does not turn up in the black we can always watch reruns of General Hospital.

Rod Repair
I have an old but favored graphite rod that the tip is broken off. Just putting a new tip guide on is not an issue. I've done it many times. On this break the tip is shattered an 1/8 inch or less and I need to cut just a smal piece off. Any suggestions on how to cut a little piece off with out shattering the fibers. Thanks,

My Head Is About To Explode
You can read hundreds of books, watch hours of videos and movies, listen to dozens of coaches and other players but you still can't shoot free throws well until you stand on the line and put the ball in the air hundreds no thousands of times. Fishing is much the same with the added challenge of a live cautious critter that has had something trying to eat him since he was an egg. Time on the water and trust your instincts. Which get better with time on the water added to your study.

Rude Fishermen Rant
Many years ago a friend was cane pole crappie fishing with his son and daughter-in-law. A guy pulled right next to them. Daughter in law asked the guy to pull about 3' closer. She followed that with, "When you do I'll be able to hit you over the head with my cane pole". No the exact woords but as close as my memory allows.

Local Bait Shops
Generally, I find the Big Box store employees have very little knowledge of the products or their use. In New Hampshire locally owned shops vary from a little to great bass knowledge. As the name indicates Northern Bass Supply is a pleasant exception. A trip to the NBS store has always been positive and their mail order service is as good as any and much better than most. The Wally Worlds here often have no one in their sporting goods departments and when they are staffed any knowledge of the product is strickly by chance and usually with knowledge except what the item costs.

Your Choice?
I have fished some pretty good lakes (Big O, Tarpon, the Everglades, Eufaula AL/GA, Reelfoot, Dale Hollow, St. Clair, Rainy, Lake of the Woods, Grand Traverse Bay and many others for large and smallmouth. I've never caught a bonafide 6# + largie and 4#15oz. is my biggest smallie. Frankly I don't think about it any more. I have a good time fishing and and if I catch one in the lnker class I'll never be sure cause it goes right back in the water. My hand helh scale will give me a ball park if I pull it out of the boats storage.

Teaching Someone To Fish- Do You Start Them With Live Bait?
Since he has not fished at all I'd go with a spincast or spinning rig, a bobber and some worms. Build some enthusiasm with sunfish, brim(bluegill), crappie build some excitement in just catching fish then go look for bigger fish. Crappie are a good middle of the roader in size and usuall pretty cooperative. After he develops a desire to fish moving on tobass or other larger game fish is an easy step.

Storing Equipment Question
Out of harmful climate issues nylon lasts a long long time. Keep out of sunlight, ozone and extremes of temperature and humidity changes and baring nicks, cuts etc it lasts a very very long time. Think about what is said re nylon in land fills.

How do I remove a hook a bass has swallowed?
Rubber net. I think I got mine from BPS. Easy on the fish and pretty much tangle free when using lures with trebles.

Looking For Quality Bass
Short growing seasons in the north country don't produce many 7 pounders. Most of those you hear about are the result of that must be a 7 pounder - but no one had a scale.

Hello From Minnesota!
Welcome! You will find a great amount of information on this site. I fished your great border lakes (Sand Point, Namakan, Rainey and LOW for many weeks of vacation as well as the Ely area a few times. Great country, great fishing for smallies, walleye and northerns. I made many friends from around your state and the country while having a great time. Betty Lessard wil stand out as a gem in my mind as long as I last.

What Is Your Oldest Lure?
I have a jointed "Pikie" that I know I caught northerns on in Lac La Clothe in 1957. The lure wasn't new then.
