Was He Hooked Or Only Biting Tail?
^ +1. Set the hook as quikly and as hard as you can the instant you feel like it may be a fish. Sometimes you won't have a thing, other times you'll catch 'em.

Swimbaits In Nova?
Get one around 4-5", cast it out, reel it back, get some confidence in it. It'll work!

Sonar Registers Deepwater Fish.. Bass Or Perch?
Where's the bait? That's where the largies will be. You said reservoir -- do you have any feeder creeks? I'd check there if so.

What Am I Doing Wrong?!
Are you fishing from the bank or a boat?

Spooking Bass
Was it a cold front? During the height of the day? If the former wait a day or 2, if the latter go during lower-light conditions, especially if the lake is unusually clear.

Color, Colors Im Into Colors
Sounds like you were changing actions AND colors AND sizes. Not sure which one was most important.

Are The Bass Over Fed?
Do you see any bluegills or bass in there? Try something huge, like my fave a 12" worm.

That is awesome.

Snap Swivel Or Straight To Line?
No swivel, Palomar knot. Swivels are mostly iffy -- you can buy some heavier-duty ones -- but you want that straight connection of line to hook.

Weird Pond?
I'm a broken record, but suggest a 10" or 12" Berkley Power Worm, black if it's clear or whatever your favorite color is. That will sniff out some big ones too.

Found This In A Fish's Mouth.
What did you catch it on?

Manns 12" Jelly Worm
Don't know about Mann's, but 10" and 12" black Power Worms are my favorite baits just about anywhere, including small ponds. Don't believe there's a 3, 4 or 5 in a small pond? Throw that -- and it'll still catch 1-2 pounders.

New Rod - Fenwick Smallmouth
Sounds like a nice rod. Unless dropshotting or buying a rod for a specific technique, I always go with the heaviest-action rod I can stand and let the line do the rest -- has to be good line, consistent like Toray. Was explained to me by David Dudley years ago, rounds counter to a lot, but works.

Help With Sammy
I never bonded with the Sammy and feel the Rapala Skitter Walk is the easiest to walk -- but my fave is still the Spook Jr.

Nice! Keep at it, it only gets better!

The Eyes Missing On Lures?
Agree they won't care and also agree use a Sharpie if that makes you feel more confident about the baits.

Having Trouble Locating Fish
Another for a swimbait, and always recommend my #1 pond bait, a 10" or 12" Berkley Power Worm in black.

Need Some Advice
Water temp? Did you see any bait movement? Any birds feeding on the shore? Where did your fish come out of?
