NE Michigan Bass Clubs
Does anyone know of any NE michigan bass clubs? I need to get more experience before I start tournament fishing and I think joining a club is the way to go. I am not looking for tournament fishing. I want to get out with more experienced anglers and learn as much as I can without cash on the line. I would hate the thought of someone losing their chance at cash because of my inexperience. I don't know any real bass anglers up here so if anyone else is in the Mio, MI 48647 area and fishes alone I'll split gas if we use your boat or we could use my stump jumper. Any ideas?

Crankin' Preferences of the Smallmouth
I agree. I caught my PB smallie on a 4" soft bodied swimbait here in michigan.

Hair Jigs for Smallmouth?
There is an decent article on using hair jigs for smallies in the November 2006 BASSMASTER issue if anyone is interested.

How did you catch your HUGE smallmouth?
My PB smallie at the Mio Pond (which is a backwater impoundment of the AuSable river) it bit on a 4 " storm swimshad in the shad color. It's a soft bodied swimbait. Just reeling slow right on the bottom on opening day just over 5lbs 19 inches.

Best Smallmouth fishin in the USA
Lake St. Clair, MI. Used to live 4 miles from it. Great smallie fishing!!

Strange Fish
No Idea how it ate, but it couldn't have had a problem as I remember it was pretty big.

Strange Fish
Ever seen the movie Predator? Check this dogfish (bowfin) out! My buddy caught this 2 years ago on Houghton lake trolling a crawler harness.

Strange Fish
Not even the DNR officer I talked to could remember. People were guessing 10 years or more since one was caught but those are just guesses.

Gas prices rantings
Where I work we're are at $1.98. And IMO its still rape. For the first time in what seems a couple years we are under $2.00 a gallon here in northern MI. Rant all you want, I agree with just about every word written here. My family suffers greatly because of the gas prices. I am selling my beautiful truck because I can't afford to drive it. I commute 124 miles everyday, so on any given month I spend between 250-300 bucks on gas myself only because I picked up a small beater car (not including my wifes gas use),so I could use a break at the pump. My father in-law owns a golf course, golf in northern michigan was down over 50% this past summer because people didn want to drive up north to vacation, he was having a terrible time just staying open. Gas prices should get capped at a certain % over the price per barrel or something. Anything over companies should get nailed for gouging. In my town we have 3 stations next to each other and in 4 years they have never had price war they always have the same exact high price. And they are always 10-19 cents higher than the surrounding towns. Word of advice if you are coming to Mio fill up before you get here.

favorite crankbait
Every bagley I have ever owned has been awesome. I love the small fry in the bream pattern, and the Kill'r B has been a steady producer over the years as well.

Any Weightlifters Out There? Need Advice Please
I'll second the comment on "quality calories". Be sure to eat a small small meal within 45 minutes of working out, or a protien shake would do. This is the time when your muscles are screaming for nutrition. I would first figure out your metabolic rate and adjust you calculations to include your activity level. I would definately eat high quality protien, fish, lean beef, chicken. There are some excellent website about this topic. Keep the carbs low, to 1/3 or less of your diet. Stick to compound movements if you want to build mass, heavy weights low reps and lots of rest between sets. Keep reading as much as you can on the subject there are a million resources out there. In the end you are just going to have to try different things everyones body is different. Drink plety of water. And be careful of supplements as NONE OF THEM ARE TESTED BY THE FDA. Good luck here are some resources for you "The new encyclopedia of bodybuilding" by Arnold Schwarzenegger its $25.00 and most book stores carry it. almost 800 pages of awesome info, illustrations, and workouts. www.bodybuilding.com This site has resources, sample workous, links and diet information. http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ this link can help you calculate how many calories you need each day. Be sure to complete the Harris Benedict equation because that is how many calories you actually burn daily. If you want to gain weight you will nedd to take in calories beyond what you burn daily www.muscleandfitness.com good site, a bit commerialized but they do have useful training and nutrition info.

Shame on you ESPN2
I don't know about you guys but I am pretty annoyed that the saturday morning fishing shows have been cut down and now that rediculous Cindy Garrison has a show on BASS SATURDAY! If I want to watch blondes in tight clothes saying stupid things I'll turn on the Dallas cowboys cheerleaders making the squad. If they want to have more women on Saturday mornings why don't they show the women's bass tournaments?

mann's 1-
I retrieve mine either over the tops of barely submerged weeds and have done pretty well. I also have had luck tossing it under trees that over hang the shallows in my lake and just twitching it.

Ever been skunked?
Many many times. But luckily the of times I get skunked goes down every season. The more I fish the better I get. Probably got truly skunked 3 on nice days last year.

Bass lures for trout?
I have thrown weightless tubes in chartruse but usually only get smallies with those. I have tried plastic craws with no success. I used floating rapala's in rainbow pattern, and I used a 4 1/2" black and silver Wyld shiner jerkbait on my float trip this year and caught a few nice rainbows and a smallie in just an hour or 2. I am going to use some x-raps this year. I bet soft jerkbaits would work well. My buddy has a drift boat what a peaceful way to fish. If you can find someone who has one, Get them to take you out! They are awesome for sneaking up on trout.

Strange Fish
2 summers ago my buddy caught a dogfish with a split lower jaw while trolling a crawler harness on Houghton Lake. Nasty looking thing I'll see if he can email me a pic. Last summer I caught a 36" 10 lb muskie on my home waters. Pretty crazy because none of the locals even the DNR can remember the last time one was ever caught out there. I'll post pics when I get home from work.

Rust prevention?
this is where I found it http://www.theinhibitor.com/ Thanks for all the replies guys. For $5.99 I think I'll just get a couple packs of the inhibitor since you guys say it works so well. I think I need to replace my plano boxes too. Mine don't have a seal and are pretty cheap.
-
Rust prevention?
Thanks guys. The problem is moisture. Has anyone tried a product called the inhibitor? I just looked at it online and it has inserts to put in my tackle box. Does this system work?
-
Rust prevention?
Hey guys I somehow did it again this year. I just went out to put all my new Christmas lures into my tacklebox (which hasn't been opened for at least 2 months) and 50% of hooks on my baits are rusted. I thought I let everything air dry before I put them away for the season but apparently not. Is there a product I can use to keep this from happening, or should I store my lures somewhere other than in the garage, or just something I am not doing to prevent this? I am sick of changing hooks everytime I store my box.

Vintage lure values?
Is there a website or resource I can use to find the value of vintage lures? I realize thing are only "worth" what someone will pay you for them but I'd like to have a ballpark amount before I start selling the ones I have.
