bowfin or blackfish
They are fun to catch, I had one break me off my frog on 20lb braid. The wife caught on one and just about jumped out of the boat when I netted it and she got a good look at it. Nasty things. I'd say 9 pounds is a pretty big dogfish, the biggest I've seen was 26".

nice fish on the "last cast"
Nice job. Any time I've caught a fish on the "last cast" its usually not the last cast and then I end up getting home late, and getting the "look" from the Misses, and not the good one if you know what I mean.

Got Skunked! Need Help!
I have to agree with the water time comment. Speaking from personal experience, I have had a boat for 3 years now and regardless of all the tv show and articles I read I still had a very sub-par first season in the boat, with many many skunk days. There is a learning curve, its frustrating but you'll get it. Try some of the suggestions from these guys , you'll do fine just enjoy the time on the water.

HORRIBLE TRAGADEY AT VA TECH
Who would have ever believed that being a teacher or student at any level would be so dangerous. I am a high school teacher and we just had a lockdown meeting with the police department last week about what to do when a shooter comes in the building. In their words "We are instructed to have this meeting because there will be a shooter at some point. We are not talking if, we are talking when." That's pretty sobering especially in a small northern michigan community with a school of 300 kids. Its disheartening what is happening to our society. My heart goes out to all affected by this tragedy.

Let's see your pets!
This is Molly my 2 year old Brittany. Wonderful dog is great with our new baby and has pointed 11 woodcock on our runs this week!! She is a good hunter and an even better companion. And she loves the water, this picture was her on her first fishing trip, about 30 seconds after this photo she was in the lake, and I was soaked trying to get her back in the boat.

Dirty Jobs
Did you guys watch the one from I hink the first season when he was in Mrs. Johnson's (or whatever her name was) basement!! Her septic backed up and it just looked like her toilet threw up all over her basement and they had to clean and sterilize it. It was disgusting!! I don't know if I could do half the jobs he goes to.

At the risk of sounding dumb
Do Cabelas or bass pro shops price match on products? Also does Bass Pro Shops send out promotion discount codes like Cabelas does, if so what do I need to do to get on that mailing list? Just curious, I am getting ready to drop a chunk of money and want to get the best deal I can.

How to remove paint?
Where would you get walnut blaster media? Could you use it with a regular sandblaster? If I could blast it that would be faster than using chemical stripping

Rhino Lining
I was looking at using this on my boat once I get the old paint scraped out. Pretty cheap price and claims to not get slippery when wet. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0021475016662a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=boat+floor+coating&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=boat+floor+coating&noImage=0

Good deal or not???
Ok I see you guys were right about ther BPS price. Now my question is for essentially the same price would you go with a motor guide 46 lb, or minn kota 40 lb? BPS has both with $10 of each other

map reading for structure / cover
Let me preface this by saying I am no expert map reader or electronics guru. I have usually used maps like you said, to find a general location and then used the electronics and just plain sight to look for good spots in the area. Do'nt know that I have ever found a hot spot just from a map alone just my $0.02

Any advice for the new guy?
You are not alone my man. I spent many frustrating days fishing from the bank before I got a boat. You'll get them figured out, keep it up.

Where did you pick the battery up at for that price?

Good deal or not???
No didn't order it yet

Good deal or not???
Yeah I am concered about not getting enough thrust, but that's why I am asking you guys. You know far more than I do. I have been on BPS and Cabelas all day looking, I could get into a transom mount 55 lb for the same price or less, but I don't know if that's the route I want to go after reading many of the posts here. Plus I have used a weak transom mount before and it was a royal pain. I spent more time steering than fishing. Plus it got in the way of my outboard. I just don't have that kind of money plus I still have to buy a battery and charger $$$ Wow it gets really expensive quick!!

Outboard tune up
I have a 1968 Johnson 20 hp outboard. My dad had it tuned up 10 years ago and it was never run after that. I started running it 3 years ago and it has performed flawlessly. I am wondering how often to get an outboard tuned up, what basic service should I expect from a tune up, and how much should I expect to pay. I am on the water about 2-4 days per week all summer if you are wondering how much it has been used. The reason for my question is UI have no clue about motors. I don't know what these points are or if he's just blowing smoke. The guy at the local sport shop said he'd do it for $45.00. He said he'd replace the "points" and change the oil in the lower unit. (which I do myself every year anyway). He claims a motor should be tuned yearly. Help please.

Good deal or not???
Found a Minn Kota Edge 40 bow mount trolling motor for $339.69 shipped to my door. The website is below. 3 questions 1. Is this enough trolling motor for a 16 ft aluminum v hull? (old 4 bench style maybe 400 pounds) 2. Is this a good deal, from everything I have found its the cheapest I've found 3. Has anyone dealt with Hodges Marine before? http://www.hodgesmarine.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MIN1355800&click=18
