Michigan bargain gear
Guys I thought I should let know know if you are ever heading north you want to hit the Northwoods Wholesale Outlet in Pinnconning. Its rediculous. I walked out with 4 bags of culprit worms, 1 bag of powerbait grubs, 2 packs of Mustad ultra point hooks( 2 for $1) , and 2 Xraps for $22.00 TOTAL!! Get off I-75 at the Pinnconning exit and go east about 2.5 miles. You'll have to do some searching in the warehouse to get what you want (because its huge) but the prices are unbeatable on most things.

Need help own how to catch this pig
Just a thought? What about throwing a double rig? Something like 2 flukes, hook the male and let him swim around with it and maybe the female will get turned on and hit the other?

Bass Opener
Hey man I know exactly how you feel. Up until 2 years ago MI was the same way, at least we have a C+R season that opened April 30. Best of luck, and tight lines.

Michigan Reports
Fished the Mio pond Monday evening. Water temps still at 56* no fish shallow yet. Caught 1 pike and 1 sm both in 10" of water. Ran into a guy I know on the lake and his fish were caught in 10" on the drop off as well.

Caught my first skunk of the season. I went to Burt Lake Thursday for the first time ever. What a huge body of water. I ran all over that lake checking the spots from my maps and following the advice of other local anglers. Gin clear water, no vegetation anywhere, no stumps, no cattails the only "structure" I could find was a rocky flat and that didn't produce anything. Fished the Pigeon River friday morning and my luck continued as 4 of us got in the river at the same spot 2 went down stream my buddy and I fished up stream. We had no hits in 3 1/2 hours. The guys who went downstream limited out in 45 minutes. Had a great time anyway, I'll be out tonight back home I home.

I went yesterday and got permission to try fishing a local golf course pond. I wanted to try out my new set up. I have a bionic blade MH paired with a BPS extreme spinning reel and power pro line. I really like it, the only problem was that I didn't have my drag adjusted properly so when this monster LMB (I mean easily 4.5 ++lbs) I brought him close to shore and he had one last jump then came back down without my x rap in his mouth. I was sick, :'( it would have easily been my new PB but at least I know where to go to find him again. I also caught the 2 biggest bluegill of my life both on the same xrap. They were over 1 lb each. Heading to Burt Lake on thrusday... I can't wait.

Michigan Reports
Thanks Upnorth keep us posted. Still getting down in the 30's at night up here and this wind has been ridiculous. Put it this way I am still scraping my windows on my car in the mornings. We could really use those 70+ degree days to get the bite going. Anyway, I was unable to get the boat in the water yesterday (the wife had the suv and I couldn't find anyone with a truck to go) so I put the waders on and hopped in the ausable for 3 hours. Caught a nice healthy 13"smallie which felt like a tank on my 9' ultralight I use for trout fishing plus he was in the current what blast that was. He hit a X-rap size 8 in the rainbow trout pattern. Lots of small trout on a panther martin but they were so small I couldn't stay hooked up. Still looking for Burt lake and Pigeon river info. Keep the reports coming guys ;D!

Wide spool spinnig reel
I just bought the BPS extreme, its on sale at BPS online for 39.99 and a few guys on BR here own them and told me to snag one because they really like theirs. I figured for 39.00 I'd give it a shot. I have yet to use it but I'll let you know when I do.

Looking for some spinning wisdom
I am trying a new reel this week for the same problem I purchased the BPS extreme spinning reel and have it on a Bionic blade rod. The Extreme is "supposed" to offer longer casts because of the wide spool design. This is similar to the US reels design. They are on sale right now for 39.99 at BPS.com so I'll let you know the results if you are interested. shoot me a PM

MI Opener is getting close!!!
Took my mom and dad fishing this weekend, the wind was horrible. Water temp was up to 52*. We did manage to boat 5 pike and my mom even caught one, so that was awesome. NO bass. Really nice to get to spend some time with the folks since I don't see them that often anymore.

MI Opener is getting close!!!
4/30/08 1st trip of the season. Location: Mio Pond (Backwaters of the AuSable river) Time: 5:30-8:30 pm Water Temp: 49-51 I started the day fishing the cove all (under 5 feet deep) where the ramp is. This has been a great spot for me over the years and it was no different yesterday. I started by trying out my new MH Bionic blade rod with a suspending X-rap in black and silver. On literally my fifth cast under an overhanging tree the rod loaded up. It wasn't a monster hit but when the smallie realized she was hooked she took off and gave a great fight. Brought her to the boat and put her to the scale... 3lbs even! Man I thought she was going to be closer to 4lbs she looked like a little football. (I have a pic on my phone I'll post it tonight) Not 15 casts later wham! I set the hook and brought nothing back but my line. I am assuming a pike robbed my x-rap. So I tie on a different xrap, and cast for another 30 minutes or so with no action then bam, another pike smacked it and ran off with my second x rap of the night. I honestly haven't lost 2 lures on that 10 lb line in the 2 years I have been using it (I just spooled the new line on 2 days ago talk about frustrating!) Anyway so now its 6:30 and I am out of hard jerk baits. So I started throwing a fluke which I have never ever had any luck with. I think being out of other options made me really give it some time and I got pretty comfortable with it over the next hour or so. By the time it was all said and done I boated 3 more hammer handle pike, but no more smallies. Didn't see any beds, but I didn't push too far up the creek that dumps into the cove either. My guess is the action is only going to pick up from here. The boat was bone dry and the old 68 Johnson fired up on the 3rd pull and purred like a kitten. Really felt good to be on the water again.

Go-to Bluegill Imitations?
I'll agree with you on that CATT. Hey have you been able to find the 0-1 foot ones anywhere? I haven't seen them for 2 years now.

Red Line - Opinion
I-F just had a long article on the red "craze" in the fishing world. It was either in march or Feb I'll see if I can find it for you. Pretty interesting stuff

MI Opener is getting close!!!
Well I haven't made it on the water yet. But the boat is now leak free. There were terrible conditions up here anyway. 20-30mph winds and sub 40* cold. Rick,my dad and I will definitely be giving you a call we had a blast last year. Did anyone have a good opening weekend? Any pics?

Braid for spinning gear
Thanks guys. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I just didn't know which way to go and I don't have the time or $$ to be experimenting with all of them. I'll be getting some power pro tomorrow

Leaking aluminum boat
Thanks again to all you guys for your help. I got the problem fixed and I believe I did it as cheap as possible. I ran a bead of RTV caulk down the seam and started tapping down the rivets with the help of a friend. Tested it out...NO LEAKS!! I am back in business and hopefully high and dry for a long time.

BPS extreme spinning reel
Anyone using one of these? I definately don't want to dump $100+ on a US Reel supercaster. This seemed to have a similar design, and at $39.00 I am really tempted.

Braid for spinning gear
Looking for some advice on what brand of braid you guys throw on your spinning gear. Any tips I should know about putting braid on spinning gear? I was told to back with mono.

There goes an arm, leg, and half my...
On my drive to work today (northern MI) I saw a station at 3.74/ gal for unleaded. I wanted to vomit. I drive 162 miles round trip everyday to work and I drive an economy car and still fill up 2 times a week. IMO I believe we are far beyond reasonable.
